Imagine setting up your own private colony outside of the jurisdiction of any state and holding on to it for decades.
And all this without being a king or having the backing of any national entity.
Beyond this also having a population that willingly cooperates and becomes part of the colony.
Add then to this that the colony is profitable through the sale of Arctic fox furs and pays for many large and costly expeditions!
You even have a post office with your own stamps a steamline and introduce your own local laws and set up an assembly for your population to vote in.
Sounds impressive does it not?
But this actually happend with the Thule colony of Knud Rasmussen in Northern Greenland.
The colony was based around the Thule trading station named after the mythic Ultima Thule established by Knud Rasmussen in 1910 and lasted until 1937, when it became part of Greenland.
That is 27 years of what is effectively a successful micronation.
