I threw one on my p365 macro, that in addition to a real porting job, made all the difference in the world for me, I honestly thought that the p365 just wasn't for me, way too snappy, hard to shoot quickly. But the ledge did so much, that it made p365 my new favorite carry piece. I even shoot it in competition from time to time 😂 TLDR: Great for small guns, meh for large guns. That's not how it works. You realize new guns with completely new designs are made every year right? Guess what? They make hostlers for them. So if a thumb ledge is effective, hostlers will be made. It's either good or not. I feel like there is a huge gap to be filled in the pistol market pertaining to grip/handle. It's like people have just settled for it works, knowing how inferior the pistol grip is to rifles or anything you can truly get two hands on effectively. I think the thumb rest/ledge/gas pedal is the first step in to actually getting the secondary hand actually in the fight. It should and will be built into future pistols. I think this review would of gone better if he actually tried to use it instead of thinking his previous grip was as good as it gets. Its not like 4 eyes is Jerry Miculek, he can definitely learn some new things to get better. We all need additional skills.

With the Glocks you can create a ledge by cutting into the frame. The accelerator cuts are 100 percent worth it. The thumb ledge can save bad trigger pulls if your pushing in and down with your thumb.

I'd recommend the align tactical thumb rest for glocks. the gen 5 one fits in a 43x if you trim off the excess, too, and they're great. It does make it harder to disassemble the gun because you have to push it out enough to get the rest out of the takedown recess but how often do you really need to disassemble a glock?

I've had the same pro ledge attachment on my 365 (XL/Macro, whatever you want to call it at this point lol) and I've found the exact same type of usefulness as you do, 0%. The bit in the video about over-driving with your support hand is something that I find myself doing now, too, but I can't tell if it's purely the ledge or not. The only difference in my experience with it on a Sig and you on the 48 is that the rail actually does rip skin off the base of my thumb. The Wilson Combat XL grip I have is likely smaller than your 48, but my thumb rests at the end up the ledge and the small bit towards the backend (nearest the grip) is what rubs my hand until I've gotten blisters because of it. Nice video, keep up the great work!

An off topic question for NG (and anyone willing to chime in)… what are your thoughts on the Sig P238? I remember you had issues with a 938 long ago. For 380 carry I alternate between a Kahr P380 and a Ruger LCP version 1.5 but I now want an all metal pocket/IWB carry 380 but am hesitant from reading about the varied issues people have experienced.
@NightwoodGuns Жыл бұрын
I had a P238 Equinox before my KZbin days that never functioned properly despite being sent in to Sig twice. That was also probably in 2013, though. So unless things have changed, I don’t recommend it. The only .380s I have are two Prescott, AZ made LCPs that run reliably. I’ve only had bad experiences with the newer Mayodan, NC LCPs. Unfortunately for an all steel pocket .380 the P238 is the only game in town so you might have to roll the dice on it. Unless you can find a used Rohrbaugh R380 in good condition. It seems most modern .380s are bigger, plastic guns (Shield EZ, P365 380, etc)

I can do the dicken drill with a P365 in 5 seconds, and only with this ledge. I designed a version that works with any holster and I can now do the dicken drill in 4.5 seconds with that, although it is an XL grip. I think that you would have a different experience with it on a P365, and if you slightly altered your grip forward. I grip it almost like a carbine, with my offhand index finger wrapping around the light and I am squeezing/torquing that hand.
@NightwoodGuns Жыл бұрын
I bet you could do the Dicken drill in the same time without it.
@BenfromFlux Жыл бұрын
@@NightwoodGuns I can’t. I have learned to shoot well enough with a traditional modern grip, but my performance is not as good. You are almost assuredly a better shooter than me - what is your dicken drill time? I have never seen anyone do faster than 5 seconds, and I am doing it with a P365 - only because of the ledge.
@meflower Жыл бұрын
Glad I came across your comment. After getting a P365, ledge, and TLR-7 sub, I also found myself changing from a traditional grip to the carbine-like grip you described, with support hand more forward and index finger wrapped around the underside of the light. My support thumb still slips off the ledge after each shot though. Did you ever experience this issue early on?
@BenfromFlux Жыл бұрын
@@meflowerI dremelled mine to have more of a ledge - I didn’t have any slippage after that. That said, I did design the Antimatter Wing, which is so large that you can’t slip off it at all. That and it works in standard holsters, because it disappears automatically when holstering it.

@zainanderson2583 Жыл бұрын
I went with the 45 and prefer it because it can flex into a duty role as well as concealed. The 19 isn’t remarkably easier to conceal imo. If it is for edc I would recommend something around the shield plus size. I aiwb the 45 everyday with a tlr1 and I definitely have to have specific t shirts that let me conceal it.
@NightwoodGuns Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video suggestion! I might just do that. If you are between the G19 and the G45 it will boil down to your body size/type and your intent with the pistol. If it’s concealed carry: it depends on whether or not your body type/wardrobe/carry position can hide the G45 grip length. Other than that, the grip selection is personal preference. People with bigger hands typically prefer the G45. But I might do a full video on the subject 👍

Also don't rush to buy it. you have to research and understand the purpose and usage of it first. This is not a user independent part like compensators. This highly depends to the user ergonomics; meaning no body can decide it for you. Understand and keep in mind these factors: your hand size, skin condition in stress (sweaty, greasy, ...), pistol size, location and angle of the thumb-rest, even the usage (EDC, Tactical, competition) etc. Then you can find the proper thumb rest and practice with it if it applicable for you/pistol. I have it on ALL my EDCs, cost me a lot but worth every penny.

I just came upon this video and noticed you like scale figures and anime/japanese merch. My man. Two expensive hobbies. Don't tell me you're also into computer hardware too?

Good to find someone else of culture around here 😂👍 And no, luckily I haven’t gotten into computer hardware yet. I’m not sure I could survive another expensive hobby 😭

Please stop using word "Gas Pedal". Gas Pedal® is registered trademark that can only be used by manufacturer. And you obviously dont know the purpose or technique of opposable grip which makes shooting much easier. Lots of misinformation. You should learn what you are talking about first.

It’s like calling a tissue “Kleenex” or a bandage a “Band-aid” It’s just going to happen. Take a chill pill. If you understand more about shooting technique than me, then you should easily be able to clear the Tier 1 Concealed Three-Sevens drill on camera like I did. Upload that video to your channel and I’ll give you a public apology.

Hey, gunslinger! Nice unnecessary comp that really doesn’t do anything for you. Cool doesn’t mean better. Because you can’t make a good product work on your own, without someone else doing the work for you, doesn’t make it wrong. By the way,most holsters work with this item with no mods. They just work better if you put a little effort in yourself.

@@NightwoodGuns great deflection. Still didn’t answer the allegations. I apologize that I’m from a generation that is willing to modify to get the most out of a product instead of throwing it away. Sincerely, completely sober.

@@mikejmardis I honestly didn’t know how to respond, I wasn’t sure what you were trying to say 😂 If you can’t shoot well without the thumb ledge I don’t know what to tell you. I was raised by a generation that taught me “it’s the Indian, not the arrow” No need to modify a holster when it doesn’t have an objective increase on performance 🤷♂️

Handguns are made to be shot with one hand. There is also nothing wrong with muzzle rise, accuracy is final and the trick is to get back on target, not stay on target. Handguns do this on their own when the slide cycles. With practice and proper tuning, a semi auto will be back on target as soon as the slide finishes cycling no matter how much muzzle rise there is.

Nothing you said is incorrect. Adding things like comps/ports can make things a little easier, but the thumb ledge is a stretch for me.

@@NightwoodGuns I think it's a great idea but should be kept on a race/competition gun, not a SD. Not that it can't be used for SD, but chances are it won't be and only creates a snag point. Training with it will take away from training one handed which is highly likely for a SD situation to turn out as well as having to fire from an improper stance or from retention. I also only practice 1 handed draws by using my thumb to lift my shirt. If I do have 2 hands available to draw it will be easy enough to do so without training for it.
