I've also had buckler wellies split after less that a year... I was determined I wasn't throwing them away so tried some Stormsure adhesive a flexible glue to patched them up and managed to get nearly another 2 years out of them.

I have had a couple of pairs of Bucklers and get 2 years if i'm lucky :-( I suffer from cold feed these days, so just put up with cost to be warm and comfortable. Interestingly mine have all gone in the same place as yours and I had wondered if it's to do with the steel toe cap........ Hope the new one work out better, will be interested to hear how they work out.

Got some grubs myself, you have to wash and protect neoprene wellies with spray or the special oil every so often much like with old leather boots to stop them cracking as they don’t enjoy going from wet muck to dry to wet to dry constantly, a good thing to do is have a bucket of water to wash your boots off at the back door before you take them off at the end of the day, hope you get on better with your new ones!

My wellies split after leaving them outside in the cold weather, since then I bring them in for an hour or so before putting them on. If you lay them down they heat up quicker. The Neoprene is the soft material visable at the top. Also, it's best to keep them in the dark as UV light degrades them.

Hi Richard, "The RAT lol just couldn't write it " 🤣🤣 Composite toe caps are of great benefit when working in areas where security has metal detectors. Unlike steel composite wont set off the alarms so makes like easier. composite still conform to EN safety regulation... Socks JCB i have them during winter months. I dont often have the need for wellingtons now and prefer rigger boots all year around but not ideal for you especially at milking time. I have always used Dunlop wellingtons but would only ever use them in winter or milking. easily slip off and back into the rigger boots. The Dunlop has improved its Acifort® Agri Range. The Acifort Heavy Duty Full Safety and are only around £26. inc VAT. If they last 12month for you thats a bargain. Personally as mentioned i like my riggers and both are easy to swap on and off.. The issue with yours's splitting it natural flex at the point where any normal wear and tear takes place. the problem with toe cap protected footwear is increased because that area of flexibility is more concentrated due to the rigid toecap. Natural rubber degrading bacteria are present in soil, water and other areas of the environment created from dried grass clippings, cattle manure and soil so wellingtons are pretty vulnerable in a farming life. keeping the rubber clean will greatly increase longevity . A silicone spray which will nourish the rubber and provide a protective coating to repel water, mud and everything else you throw at your boots will help no end. Its important though to use this before they are first worn but you can still buy some and give them a good clean and spray them once dry. something like Le Chameau Rubber Boot Spray 80ml or other makes... I always spray my rigger boots a few times a week or so before i start using them with a similar silicone protective spray. I always have liners in my boots too so warm in winter and cool in summer.. Hopefully these new ones you have will last longer than 10 month.. All the best you you All .. Ps the good lady has finally finished her Chew Valley Gin . she's not much of a drinker but loved the flavour. kept her quiet so think i will buy her another lol...

The ceramic is so they can be worn in secure area's and you don't have to take them off every time you go through a metal detector

Ah, the gentleman farmer in his fine winter boots. Richard, they do look remarkably serviceable-stylish. Nice neutral color should go very nicely with the muck, coveralls and love the ball cap look, although the blond hair is nice too. I was surprised that you did not put any duct tape on your old wellies in November when they first split to keep the wet out. Duct tape is a standard fix in Central Florida, usually seen on tennis/athletic shoes here, but also boots to give them a little extra wear. I hope that these work for you.

I still highly recommend buying some Inyati boots. I've still got mine nice thick grip no cracks or perishing around where your foot angles when walking. I've had them since my college days so they're going on 13 years now and still going strong.

I agree that Buckler have gone bad on quality. I used to buy their rigger's and or steel toe cap dealers and they burnt out or stitching failed in less than a year. So I have gone back to Nora for wellies and V12 for industrial dealer boots. I still think an exterior steel toe is better than an enclosed one because the leather wears off and then the boots leak.

Hi Richard, what no warranty with a pair of boots that cost that much. That's crazy. They are clearly delaminating. That's what caused the split. Cheap import quality badged as something better.🤔😒

Pity you performed an autopsy on the offending wellie I would have had a moan with the makers. We have made wellie wars with the manufacturers and got replacements. Seems the cheap ones last as long as the pricier ones. The replacements had the same fault. Currently we have Dutch Dunlop wellies with red linings. Incredibly comfortable and wearing well, but ours don’t have steel toecaps. I think the rubber is stretched too thin in the mould where the feet flex.

my guess is that ceramic is safer than actual steel toes. Cuz when someting heavy hits the steel toe on the wrong angle, it bends and it can cut of your toes, or so i've been told. I also heard of kevlar toe (and sole) reinforcement, lighter than steel.

Mr funky farmer don't give up on splits like that ,you might think I'm crazy I'm from Somerset so there might bee some truth , I buy cheap wellies &20 I've had them at least 5yrs or more 4or five splits not all at once, find a old Welly best if you get a bit where it cleanest on the back with the fine cloth still on it get a roll of plasterers scrim plastic , get a tube of good adehsion clear silicon, I've used lots of different ones , clean around split after bit of sandpaper cut a strip wide enough be generous to go over split cut a bit of scrim squeeze some silicon over scrim use a metal scraper run it ove scrim , get your strip of Welly patch spread a thin layer of silicon on the back place it on scrim , make sure the rest of Welly is clean so you run a bit of masking tape over it all to keep it in place squashed tight, next day take masking tape off and run a bead of silicon around edge of patch(ie patch is on out side of boot)once you've got your materials it doesn't take long to do it , and last a while,I've got a split around the same area as yours it's a good 4" long still holding after 2,yrs good luck .Andy.🙂
