If you think about it Lion-o owes all he is to his friends. And then he had to fight them to earn his Lordship of the Thundercats. Damn that is a mind job.

The anointment trials were the best of the multi-part story arcs This is what happens when the writers aren't constrained by having to make quantity over quality and these were more than the usual 30 minute toy commercials that to be fair most action cartoons for my childhood were the set of episodes was amazing it was suspenseful and gave us some good action especially the trial of evil against Mumm-Ra the ever living at the end of this set of episodes

I agree. It was a big deal for back then to see a kids cartoon actually have multi-part stories. I was completely engrossed with the story and so into it! Seemed like a ton of action and I remember enjoying it so much. Shows for kids are more mature now so at the time this seemed more like a big deal.

You can actually feel the weight of the boulder when Panthro stops it. Really animated well and drawn well.

I know the 2011 cartoon TRIED to give the Thundercats depth by making the cats petty and kind of racist. I get it- by giving them character flaws to work through you make them more relatable. But sometimes you just gotta be unrelatable and let people admire the unattainable. The fact that the original Thundercats were so absolutely honorable, damn-near incorruptible, and above any and all pettiness is what made them so awesome and every goddamn bit of this scene demonstrates that. In a scenario where it is imperative that Panthro and Lion-O defeat each other, they do not miss a single goddamn opportunity to show respect to each other, protect each other, sacrifice for each other, and work together. DURING THEIR FIGHT. That still gets me pumped at age 36. I know these days people want their heroes to struggle with all kinds of psychological problems and their villains to be at at least somewhat justified so that the battle between good and evil becomes more of a puzzle than a battle. Otherwise it's "boring". Okay, whatever. I'm not gonna say I didn't like Black Panther as much as the next guy. But sometimes less is more. Sometimes I just want my heroes to be boy scouts and my villains to be scumbags who need to be put out of humanity's misery.

I totally agree and feel the same way. I still enjoy shows of today THE BOYS on Prime is a great show. But I feel bad for the younger kids. I literally looked up to the old characters and they inspired me like they were almost real people. lol The trend now is all characters in movies, cartoons tv shows are all flawed have some type of issue or what ever and I think it does effect peoples thoughts while viewing it .

And it helps kids seek out and attain those honorable qualities. Isn’t that why people lived and were heartbroken with Ned Stark? I feel the 90s Batman the animated series had the good balance of good storytelling and some dark themes, but hopeful, not too dark or disturbing.

Maybe Panthro is feeling a little off. He's been shown picking up his own tank fairly easily and up-rooting a redwood sized tree with his bare hands.

0:58 - 1:06 = Iron cross like a muthafukin' boss. Every time I see the scene where Panthro stops what looks like a damn 20 ton boulder rolling down a steep mountain grade I can't help but to say, "SHEE-IT!!!"

What is the source of this episode? My guess it is a well preserved retail VHS copy with the scanlines at the bottom of this clip. But the color and audio make me think this pre-dates the DVD pressing of the show.
