As a '57 Ford owner it hurts me to see them get destroyed, but i love seeing films of these beauties in action back in the day.

There were 2 cars in Gatlinburg TN in their museum in the 70s that were supposed to be the grey 50 Ford and the red and white 57. They had the tanks in the trunk and the racing mill in the 50. They might have been replicas. They were gone the next year. They could have been the movie cars but it looks like both were destroyed in an explosion and the flipped 57 into a realistic dummy power sub station. Carey Loftin was still in the 57 Ford when he flipped it so I guess both were destroyed. But camera tricks were around in those days. So ,it could have been the movie cars.

Hi Wayne...same age here in canada. Our Dad took my brother and I to see this in the local theatre ! We loved it ! Still wrench every car I own even today. Dad had a bunch of V8 Ford wagons in the 50's and 5 kids. Maybe he actually wanted to see it himself ! Mom was ultra straight laced small town big C conservative and scolded his driving if he broke 50 MPH. He managed to convince her the engine needed to "burn the carbon out " she seemed to understand and allowed a few high speed runs after that. I can recall being in the 61 Meteor wagon...352...at 80 + MPH on the newly built 4 lane highway 401. Fresh smooth road very little traffic. Ah the good old days 😻😻😻👍👍

Were you born before or after April in 1950? That year's census is being released soon. Just out of curiosity, was wondering if you would be on it. I won't. Still too early for me.

Log Cabin Motor Court-Asheville, NC-the cabin scenes were filmed in the "Double or nothing cabin"! It is not really advertised. We just stayed there & it's really like stepping back into time! Especially when you look at the movie & compare. You can feel Mitchum's presence there. It was awesome.

Didn't know he was a martial arts expert,that was a vicious judy chop in the opening scene. LOL.At that time my uncle had a new '57 Fairlane Police interceptor with a Paxton on it.He put me on the floorboard a couple times with his sideways antics on those curvy,hilly rural Knoxville clay roads.He'd just take another swig from his pint of Old Crow and give a cowboy yell.The red dust cloud behind was so thick you couldn't see 10ft.If you wanted a decent looking car in those days you had to spray it down each time you drove it off the highways.

Carey Loftin was a great stunt driver. He doubled for Mitchum in this movie. Bill Hickman was the driver in the black 57 Ford Custom..They worked together on many occasions.. Bill has screen time as well. He looks different without his glasses but that's him you see in the Ford Custom. He was always thin and tall. Neither were credited on this movie as stunt drivers and Bill isn't listed as an actor in the film. But neither were several actors.

The guitar licks & drum rolls could be an inspiration for the Beach Boys "409", especially the bridge section of the song. The ones here are faster & actually better.

@dsmittyville Well according to various movie sources they say --> ""Most of the scenes were filmed in Asheville, North Carolina Highway 16 and others at Lake Lure. Some scenes were actual local moonshine drivers shot with a camera mounted on pickup tailgate.""

@Diogenes1360 Mitchum threw the cig in the guy's face, hence the reason he threw his hands up to his face and not his lap. Also, he did not scream while going over the embankment. This is my favorite Rob Mitchum movie of all time, Cape Fear(the original)is a close second.

At 3:02, dig the mileage on the odometer of Mitchum's '57 Ford. Whens the last time you saw that kind of miles on a 55 year old car?
@smokey2139647 жыл бұрын
the car with the low miles really was a moonshine hauler. it was purchased by a moonshiner and then he turned around and sold it to the film company to be used as a movie car since they we're trying to keep the cars authentic. I read that in a collector car paper

Flickdom's granddaddy of cool, bad Bob Mitchum in a barbiturate-soaked performance. When some creep tries running moonshiner Mitch off the road, Mr. Heavylids coolly removes the old cig from his lips and flicks it across his car, out the window, and into the creep's car. It lands in his lap and he drives screaming to his death over an embankment. Mitchum never changes his expression!
