This video goes back so far i was still in middle school on the big island, Keaaú side.

So High pitched! It sounds like it's going to spin itself off the mounts! Did anybody in the area report broken glass!? Smooth operation it appears tough. Good steady clip, cheers.

This is a nice sounding siren! I love how you can hear the blower throughout the video and then how it shuts off at the end!
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
Didn't see it rotate, but have viewed it before in operation up close. That one is a dual tone also, and not set on a high chopper setting.

Don't know. This one sounded for about a minute in June, but in July it sounded for three minutes.
@200twistatwista16 жыл бұрын
I noticed the tree's get in the way and cut the sound down real bad they need to trim those so the loudness can reach the people located where that siren points where it is blocked.

This siren was replaced by a dsa siren.

The very loud Glassport thunderbolt.
@dilloncarpenter16 жыл бұрын
is that the blower thats buzzing?
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
sure do. we just don't call them tornado sirens. 'siren', 'civil defense siren', or 'warning siren' works.
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
So none of the newer electronic sirens like Modulators or DSA's do a silent test like some do on the mainland? That's what I thought, since I used to live up near a Modulator in Mililani and it would sound every first working day of the new month. I'll definitely give you folks a call about the Modulator in Kuli'ou'ou Valley, since that one didn't sound on June 1st at 11:45am.
@AWT50204 жыл бұрын
Geez, I thought Thunderbolts only went up to Chopper 7 not 70, lol. It’s got to be reversed wired.
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
Sorry to spoil the fun, but this Thunderbolt is getting replaced. Civil Defense requires that new outdoor warning sirens be 1) voice capable 2)able to run on batteries during a disaster when Hawaiian Electric goes down
@gumpman15517 жыл бұрын
this siren sounds really high pitched for a thunderbolt
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
If that's the big 6-module modulator by the park next to the freeway entrance, I know where that one is, and will film it. Didn't know there was a Model 7 here on the islands. Thanks Neris.
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
Modulator here actually did a silent test. I guess some do and some don't.

nice nice siren yup.U can see that tree's leaves touch the siren as it rotates thats cool.

That's too funny! =D Is that video playing at the right speed?? If you slowed it down by 50% I'd bet it would sound like the LEGEND.
@vtecshepherd17 жыл бұрын
That's even higher than the famed Glassport T-1000T! That's the highest one before this! If I did my math right (and I did), it's running at approximately 11,500RPM!! I have a T-1000, and I can't imagine that big old chopper running this fast!
@RamFett17 жыл бұрын
It's a bit too high, but still much better than the 2001's or electronic garbage everything's being replaced with.
@tullsnoore644810 жыл бұрын
That sounds like choppersetting 9999999 At least level 7 :S why can't they just use 4 or 5 that's recommended
@childishtombino12758 жыл бұрын
It isn't recommended it is just the most popular Terminal setting, the settings are there for a reason, the fact that different pitches will carry further than others depending on the landscape. This siren has been set on Terminal 7 but also mistakenly has a reverse wired Blower so the pitch would be even Higher pitch than normal
@kagome12288517 жыл бұрын
Sounds like Tim the Toolman Taylor souped it up and gave it more power!

I'm not even near this siren. Closest siren to me where I live is an RSH-10 at the Hawaii-American Water sewage treatment plant, and it's about a mile away.

Oh wow, never heard a TBolt that high in tone.

u have tornado sirens in Hawaii?!

Feel free to check out my Modulator video and you can hear this Thunderbolt wind up in the first 5 seconds of the video.
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
that's what I thought. I'll go take a look. Theres an EOWS 612 about 2 miles away from this one.
@hrdknox200015 жыл бұрын
That siren sounds good! I think that one would be hi pitched enough to wake me up in the night for a tornado or other emergency. My community uses the Federal 2001 siren. It's good too. I still have to say that my fav. siren sound is the Model 2. That one's just creepy as hell!
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
Used to go to an elementary school about 1/2 a mile away from this siren, and it has always sounded like this. No other Thunderbolt I've seen and heard here has THAT high of a pitch. Kind of makes it difficult to actually make it out as a dual-tone Thunderbolt.
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
The supercharger.
@LNERMallard15 жыл бұрын
I think the EOWS 612 sound is based off this. Look for a video if a EOWS 612 and compare it to this.
@whydontyouremember16 жыл бұрын
anyone know if there are still any rise- fall pitch sirens on youtube?
@childishtombino12758 жыл бұрын
Yes th sirens that sound the 'Attack tone' Just type Thunderbolt siren attack mode
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
No video speed tricks here: you can verify by listening to the supercharger: it's running at it's normal pitch. If you do slow down the video to about 50%, it sounds like any other 5/6 chopper port ratio Thunderbolt.
@DimeWylde9117 жыл бұрын
Why they run them so long? The one by me (which I can see out my window) Always runs attack mode for about a minute on a fairly modest tone.
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
You think it might be running higher than 240v for the chopper?
@fordrallyesportfan17 жыл бұрын
OMG, they should turn the chopper speed down! I don't care for the Thunderbolt at that pitch. The classic T-Bolt sound is ruined at that speed! I really wish we still had our TBolts. A long time ago there was a 2T22 and 3 1000T's nearby and it made such a lovely FS chorus. Now they've been replaced by 2001's. Boo! Hiss! There are only a few TBolts left in my county that I can think of. Used to have a Thunderbeam across from my college but it too was replaced with a 2001.
@childishtombino12757 жыл бұрын
The classic Tbolt sound gets ruined by the blower actually, because this blower is reverse wired

One that is about 3 miles away from me. I'll see if I can contact C.D. here and see which ones don't do a silent test. If not, there's an EOWS 1212 that I can record next time.
@russelD915 жыл бұрын
why are they replacing the siren?
@callmesteve16 жыл бұрын
why is it set so high?
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
I wasn't wearing any ear protection during this recording. Ears were ringing for a bit afterwards. I was about 50ft away. Pretty close, since you can hear the blower. ALWAYS WEAR EAR PROTECTION!

When I lived in McGrew Point Housing in the early 1960s, you could hardly hear the sirens during the monthly test! This was not good, as McGrew Point is right next to Pearl Harbor!
@mmcdona117 жыл бұрын
Hahah, I don't know about broken glass. Tripod helped. Just wish I could shield myself better from wind noise and record this siren with a better audio recording device.
