宇宙愛 宇宙愛 alright, before I say this I’m gonna let you know that I transcribe Robert glasper and Cory Henry licks at least once a week and I have the most respect for them, especially glasper who’s been very influential in the neo soul scene (which you probably know). However, if you’ve watched Glasper interviews, he HATES the pretentious jazz community. It’s why he entered black radio in the rnb category and not jazz. It’s why he felt he needed to first make a jazz album before experimenting. Saying instrumentalists are more talented than producers is just being a petty and pretentious part of the jazz community. If it sounds good it sounds good. Not even mentioning how difficult the things flylo does in his production, if you watch interviews, he’s done his homework. He does understand jazz and he’s studied John and alices work. I’d say more of alices work shows (especially in the spiritual undertones and harp work throughout his projects) but you can’t say he’s “second to guys like Cory and Rob. I’m saying this as a producer (of three years) and jazz pianist of 10 years. Don’t be pretentious, don’t try to put “real jazz” on a pedestal, and just listen to the music you like. Don’t worry about who’s “more talented”, you’re only contributing to the elitist jazz community that majority of us jazz musicians hate.
