OK BUT WHY DIDN'T I EVER SEE GRAYSON AS LIKE A JESUS FIGURE?!?! Cause YOU'RE SO RIGHT AND THAT'S TOTALLY BLOWING MY MIND. The whole time jump thing is also freaking me out because we have no idea how long it'll be until they're revived and who knows if the world will be completely different than they left it? I feel like Goddard basically has free reign at this point and I'm terrified of coming back to a world where he rules over the scythedom. I also found it fascinating to see how the Thunderhead's feelings and emotions developed throughout the book... He definitely felt more robotic at first but towards the end started showing imperfections and an ability to react based on feelings that was so interesting

Am I the only one who noticed this but whenever Scythe Curie and Anastasia are touring Endura they see an opera called Aida and Anastasia describes the opera and the plot of the opera is almost exactly like Rowan and citra's storyline. The book and the opera end the same way and I don't know if this was a coincidence or Neal Shusterman likes to screw with us.

I have lots of things to say and I don't know how to connect them in an eloquent paragraph so I'm just gonna make a bullet list: -I loved your reaction to people saying Scythe is slow like um b*tch where -There was this one part in the beginning with Scythe Lucifer and the whole time I was thinking, "I'm sorry, the old Rowan can't come to the phone right now. Why? Because he's dead!" -I loved how Rowan and Citra had become different people than they were in the first book, but there were still some of their old characteristics left. (Example: "Everybody says, 'Don't mess with Texas'; why would you want to mess with it?" "What's the point of three foot pedals? People only have two feet.") -I'm still really sad about Tyger ;-; -Scythe Rand is a hoe and I kind of love her -The junior scythes are hilarious. Like, there's one with a denim robe. There's a SCYTHE BEYONCE. -I thought everything was going pretty well, nothing too world-threatening and then frEAKING GODDARD HAD TO DROWN THE ISLAND -THAT PART WITH ROWAN AND CITRA WHEN THEY WERE ABOUT TO SORT-OF DIE WAS BEAUTIFUL -I still can't get over the Thunderhead screaming. It was so powerful and jarring and ??? I'm shaking -I LOVED MARIE GOSH DANG IT WHY -Years ago my sister went to this pre-school called the Goddard School and the teachers were really mean and they locked her in a bathroom because she wouldn't stop crying and I think Goddard is a fitting name for that dirtbag scythe -I bought the B&N edition of Thunderhead which had a chapter-by-chapter commentary in the back and it was really interesting.

I was really devastated by Marie’s last scene. It was a fitting end for her and I liked how emotional it was but it was still so sad to see the loss of everything that she still had the potential for and what her loss will mean to Anastasia and faraday. I’m also very curious to see what will happen with faraday and the land of nod now that he’s found it, and not only that, but revealed it to the thunder head. I almost wonder if it was kind of a “social experiment” of the scythes, a place without the thunder head where life was left to carry on as it had in the mortal age. As I read these books you can see the scythedom spiraling out of control, and seeing the thunderheads projections of how many gleanings will be necessary to maintain a livable earth it makes you wonder if it would be better to abolish the scythedom and return to how things were in the mortal age. Is this really a utopia or have they just created a different kind of hell, disguised as heaven? I’m loving these books! I totally agree that I haven’t read something so thought provoking in a long time. Neal shusterman is a master at creating these types of worlds where you give people what they think they want and watch it go up in flames.

I just finished Thunderhead before I watched your video. And oh my gosh I am mind blow by this book. I think it was so much better than Scythe, even though I loved Scythe a lot. I was furious that Goddard came back to life because I knew he would cause terrible things to happen. Then Marie dying was so sad. And I just feel like everything is in a huge disarray and how is everything going to be cleaned up in one book? Then, how are Rowan and Citra going to be found? And how soon? I never really thought of the religious parallels in the book, but this series is so good and thought provoking.

You are totally right about the religious parallel!! I saw some of it, but the way you explained made total sense! Since you're a big shadowhunter fan (I am as well), am I the only person that when they were going to the big meeting with the council I thought to myself shit this sounds a lot like the ending of Lord of Shadows. I could just feel that whenever you go to the higher up at the end of the book, shit is about to go down. I also wondered if Neal Shusterman wrote the ending of the book during shark week!

Dude I finished the book like 45 minutes ago and I am honesty deceased. I don't even understand how Neal Shusterman does it. Just.... what??? How does one come up with ideas like this? And the fact that it seems so POSSIBLE for us to get to this insane future. The cloud evolving into the thunderhead... THAT COULD HAPPEN. Conquering death and then having these people called the scythes... ITS SO INSANE THAT HUMANITY COULD DO IT. Like, I think besides the amazing writing and characters and plot and plot twists, Shusterman also gives us this eerily accurate commentary on humanity as a whole. How flawed we are, how imaginative, how susceptible we are to corruption. My favorite parts of the books are the passages between chapters where we get a lot of that commentary about humanity as told through scythe's journals or the thunderhead. I mean, WOW. Honestly these books blew me away and I can't even explain how much they blew me away. ITS JUST AMAZING AND I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT FOREVER.

FIRST, THE AUDIOBOOK WAS AMAZING. thank you for promoting it or else i would not have tried listening to it instead reading it. the voice actor did such an incredible job with the Thunderhead sections. And i love how philosophical the Thunderhead was (especially the section where he talks about humanity creating him and him creating them in turn, and asks who created who in whose image). The way that Thunderhead screams at the end totally FLOORED me, and the whole connection to the Great Resonance was just so perfect. but wow the religious parallels you brought up (everyone being born with sin, garden of eden, and GREYSON BEING JESUS LIKE WHOA MIND BLOWN) didn't even come to mind for me!?!?! and now i'm like super scared/interested to see what the Thunderhead does in the next book, but even more scared about what Goddard is going to do. I totally agree that there's probably going to be a time jump before the next book but omg omg the way you brought up how the Thunderhead could possibly take away all the knowledge and force humanity to govern themselves again is a super interesting full circle possibility. this video just made me appreciate the book even more so THANK YOU Christine

Few things: -Marie's ending had me crying, also her pulling together at the end ugh 😭 😢 -Ending reminds me of Captain America the First Avenger -Also this book Citra seemed more like the main character than Rowan compared to the first book where they are equals. -Also the thunderhead screaming had me dying -Finally the whole tonists plot makes sense Edit: I think that the thunderhead is screaming because he just lost two humans that he really cared for (Mostly Citra, but also Rowan) Edit 2: The Marie scene when it said that the scythe gleaned with love and compassion 😭😭

I just finished this book and it was EPIC. But more to the point Neil Schusterman is coming to my local library tomorrow and I’m so excited to meet him! You’re so good at coming up with creative questions, if you had the chance to ask him one or two questions WHAT WOULD YOU ASK?! If he answers them I’ll be sure to comment back what he says. Also did you see the third book is called “The Toll” ? How do you think the islands are going to come into play??? Personally I think that somehow the Island will reverse immortality but that’s just a theory. Like everyone else is saying I didn’t fully realize the gravity of the parallels to religion! So intriguing!!! I definitely need to read the unwind series now. The scene with Marie at the end brought me to tears. The entire book was so philosophical and exciting. I know you posted this a while ago but I’m hoping you’ll respond! You are someone that inspires me and it’s so wonderful to see someone so famous talk to passionately about things I am passionate about to!

I finished Thunderhead last night and looked to see if your booktalk was up. I NEEDED someone to talk to about this book. Glad it’s up now because I don’t know what to do with all these feelings! This book approached an omniscient god-like narrative so well, which isn’t a point of view we see too often in YA. Broaching the thought of how powerful and yet powerless Thunderhead can be is intriguing in and of itself. So many moments I wanted to scream because they could do nothing to prevent such awful things from happening. I just need The Toll ASAP (Also, love your videos so much, always want a booktalk from you once I’m done reading a book 💜)

Oh my goodness I didn’t even think about the obvious religious parallels until now! So incredible. You’re such an intent reader and this book just took on a whole new meaning for me. It’s crazy to think that is Greyson is, like you said, a Jesus figure. He’s now the son of God, the Messiah, and what if in book three we see him go around the world, spreading the word of the thunderhead, gathering “disciples” telling tales of a perfect Almighty, trying to regain order? And just like in the Bible, what if people don’t believe Greyson? What if they think the Thunderhead has abandoned them for good? What if they turn to the great resonance and go back to self-governing? Many of Jesus’s disciples denied him in the end, which lead to the crucifixion. Could the thunderhead forsake Greyson in the end?? The religious parallels are endless!!!!

Okay so my theory is that the next book is gonna take place 100 years in the future and world is going to be a complete mess. Since the thunderhead is still probably not talking to anyone I think the world is probably going to be ruled mainly by the tonists ( like a resurgence of religion and human rule) and scythe Goddard who will probably change the way scythes and gleaning is perceived and he will probably follow the “glean 100 people a day thing” that the thunderhead said. I also think that in this time jump citra and Rowan are going to be revived and they’re going to be thought as the actual promethious and cleopatra and it will be their job to end Goddard and figure out what to do with the tonist. I have no idea how Grayson or faraday will come into play though

I was seriously hesitant to start this series, but you convinced me. I HAVEN’T LOVED A SERIES AS MUCH SINCE I READ THE DARKEST MINDS. I don’t want to wait, but I’m glad that I have to marinate on the series for a year or so.

Agreed comments are non existent. So happy you read it. I had to take breaks during the last hour (it took me 3 maybe 5 hours to finish the last hour) because emotions and such. Unwind is just as brilliant as these and it’s a 4 book series so yay more books!!! Been wanting you to read anything by him and I am so happy you did. Thanks you for spreading the word I need all the booktubers I love to read because it’s amazing and it makes me feel like I have someone to talk to about it. All the feels. I’m guessing not many people have read it just came out and the hype is not huge. Ps. You are actually used in the book trailer which is too funny. Look though authors KZbin.

I don't know if anybody noticed this as well but another small thing to mention. Remember how Citra and Curie saw the play Aida??? Well the end scene where Rowan and Citra are trapped and "entombed" in the vault mimics the last scene of AIDA where the 2 main characters die together entombed. :)

I’m the only one in my friends group who has read these 2 books. Which is stressful because I want to talk about them so badly! But I can’t, because spoilers, and all of my friends are interested in reading them. So thank you for saying basically every thought I had throughout this book, up to and including the incoherent babbling parts. I’m really hoping Faraday has some way of figuring everything out and that they’re able to like “reset” the world or something, and I really hope that Citra and Rowan are found quickly I’m sure they will be just because so many people knew that Scythe Curie and Anastasia were going to Endura. I’m also sure that Goddard is going to have some really great story about how he and Scythe Rand barely escaped and how awful it was to watch or something like that, and I have a feeling that Greyson is going to be a huge pivot point for the entire thing, he’s the “hero” like in Scythe clearly you think it’s either Citra or Rowan who’s going to change the world and be our hero/heroine. And you kind of feel the same way starting out Thunderhead like they’re both filling that role just in very different ways. But no! Citra and Rowan are a massive distraction they’re just intricate moving parts Greyson Tolliver is your main hero and Neal Shusterman kind of flips that “chosen one” trope because usually you meet that character right away but in this world we don’t even meet him until book 2 and you don’t even realize his importance until literally the last page and that’s just fantastic!

Great review. I always come to your channel to see if u like the book or not before reading it. Then come back to the spoiler part after I have read the book. Firstly, if Scythe Currie comes back I will be highly pissed. Even though she was one of my favorite characters I feel like it was the perfect ending to her character. Secondly, I personally think so far that Thunderhead is the best book. I loved how in the first book the thunderhead was just mentioned a few times to introduce us to the world. But in the second book he became one of the biggest characters in the book. While reading this book actually I kept thinking of Aiden from Illuminae. I loved how his character development from being someone who cared about humanity to feeling like he has to separate himself from humanity to save humanity. Sry this comment is so long it was just an amazing book that I couldn’t put down. Can’t wait to start The Toll
