Time lapse set up primarily to try and catch some Geminids, but ended up catching the edge of a very active winter storm to the northeast. Taken between 2024 and 2353 UTC, 14th December 2022. Chapel of Garioch

I’ve never seen snow squalls that tall before
@CloudsnStuff697 ай бұрын
Thats because lake effect snow and snow squalls are more akin to thunderstorms than your typical frontal snow
@stratussol2475Ай бұрын
@@CloudsnStuff69 The clouds here are cumulonimbus, thunderstorms by definition. They form the same way as any thunderstorm, convection of warm, moist air rising and condensing into the cold, dry air above it.
@MatheusGomes-tx6nx2 ай бұрын
Very interesting, because when I see these cumulonimbus anvils, I usually think about warm weather, not winter. And when I see these clouds together with the ground covered with snow, my brain is blown up

Jealous. Any intense snow squall approaches my region, if you blink - it's gone and the storm is over. According to this timelapse, they had several rounds of good stuff!!! Nice!!!

Why its so many cumulos ninbus clouds?
@bartoszkowalski69863 ай бұрын
How do you even get something like that to form? Perhaps if warm and wet and cold air/ currents collide, which doesn't even happen in wast majority of cold places.

There's towering snowstorms with lightning. That's it. That's the thundersnow. Normal snow doesn't come from a towering cloud like that and it definitely doesn't have snow. You're just looking for the wrong thing.

It wasn’t all light pollution, the sun was probably only a few dents below the horizon and so not many stars were seen

Snow covered ground reflects street lights more, which makes clouds look brighter at night
