I think that it was just a known fact that they were expected to be married because it is an arranged marriage by the grandmother that Sam had already agreed to but Kirk proposing makes it more than an arrangement. He proposed as to say he actually wants to marry her and not just because he has too. It’s not clear if he is in love with her but I can see him trying to make the best of a shitty situation. He doesn’t realize Sam is in love with someone else so he figures if he proposes it makes her be wanted wanted for real and not just forced together. I hope that when he realizes what’s going, he will be the one to be Sam’s voice of reason and not let her go through with it. He clearly cares for her and if he wants the best for her, will tell her to do the right thing and follow her heart. But angst is a coming folks. Sunday is taking too long. 😢💔
