This old beautiful Ilocano folk song was popularized by the famous Filipino singers like Rick Manrique Jr., Bobby Gutierrez, Mabuhay singers, Nora Aunor and more. When I hear this song, it reminds me of my happy childhood, when my father and our neighbors seranade my mother while drinking their favorite Ginebra, Tanduay or San Miguel Beer. The more they drink, the better they sounded - very quiet neighborhood, no electricity, but a very calm night with full moon. Here is the lyrics of this beautiful song with an english translation - the translation is close to what it really means, I think :) Enjoy….I dedicate this song to my late father whose birthday was just few days ago, October 18, and to the rest of my family and friends.
Ti Ayat ti Maysa nga Ubing
Ti ayat ti maysa nga ubing
Nasamsam-it ngem hasmin
Kasla sabong nga apgukrad, iti bulan ti Abril
A love of child, is sweeter than Jasmine
Just like a newly bloomed flower in the month of April
Ti ayat ti maysa nga lakay, aglalo no agkabaw
Napait, napait, napait nga makasubkar
A love of an old man, specially when he is forgetful
It is bitter, it is bitter, it is nauseatingly bitter
Anansata tao lelong, agsapol ka tay balo
A kapadpada ta uban mo, ken dayta tuppol mo
That is just how life is grandpa, find yourself a widow
With the same gray hair and no teeth like you.
Ta bay-am a panunuten ti ayat ti maysa nga ubing
Aglalo, aglalo nu addan makin-aywanen
Do not bother to think, about the love of a child
Especially, especially when someone is already taking care of her/him
