Afro Haitian was a phenomena as was Afro Cuban in the 1950s. In fact they were on in the same giventhe fact that African was African! The same rhythms were in the states in places like South Carolina and New Orleans. There was more instrumentstion available in the states so the congas were more exotic than the standard drums in the USA.
