Sherpa sounds more like a hybrid between a north Indian language and chinese than Tibetan which is interesting.

@@doubletrouble9503 Any language anywhere takes characteristics of languages near it; I would say that Lhasa (Ü-tsang) Tibetan is influenced by Mandarin Chinese too. So, our languages always conform to the majority language of any area.

the word choices are completely different and the word order is also quite different in the text, sherpa actually has remarkably little influence from any north indian (including nepali) languages.

Is Sherpa tonal?
@lepmuhangpa
@lepmuhangpa Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is; Sino-Tibetan languages that aren't tonal:- Newa bhe (Newar), Yakkha (Dewan), Yakthum pan (Limbu), Khambu dialects (Rai), Mangar, Rong ring (Lepcha). Sino-Tibetan languages that are tonal:- Chepang, Lhowa, Jirpa (Jirel), Koinch (Sunuwar), Dhimal, Sherpa, Tamang, Tamu (Gurung), Drenjongke (Sikkimese), Dzongkha (Bhutanese), Syuba (Kagate) etc. For many reasons not just the difficulty of speaking; But, lack of education: Poverty in the case of Chepang, Tamang & Dhimal: The tonal languages are going extinct.

@@joeonnmalaysia Salaam. I think it has more tones than the Lhasa (Ü-tsang) dialect: I'm pretty sure that the tones are only preserved with the older generation & those who live in the Khumbu region itself mostly. As for modern Sherpa youth in urban settings, they most likely don't even speak their language in the first place. But, this is true with all minority languages, not just Sherpa.

夏尔巴人,是藏族里的藏族,藏族继承了丹人适应高海拔的基因已经很强了,夏尔巴人更能在喜马拉雅山上登山、健步如飞。 Sherpa is more Tibetan than Tibetans. Tibetans who've inherited high-altitude adaptivity genes from Denisovan human are already strong enough, while Sherpas are even good at climbing Himalayas as if flying 💪
