This movie really was robbed with the Oscar noms... It should have been nominated for directing, adapted screenplay, supporting actress for Vanessa/Alexandra, and supporting actor for Bradley because he had Sondheim's mannerisms down perfectly, but honestly it could have had a best picture nomination too because it was by far the best movie musical of the year if not the past 10 years Also WHY has nobody ever fully produced Superbia??
@Zakemaster2 жыл бұрын
If I remember right, the reason nobody has produced Superbia already is because there isn’t a single draft available anymore. In his notes that his family received, they have sections from multiple different drafts, but not a coherent whole, so somebody else would need to come in and finish it, which nobody seemed to want to happen. It’s something along those lines. Basically there isn’t just a book and lyric for Superbia sitting around for somebody to produce as is.

And Michael is based off of Jonathan’s best friend, who I believe is still alive. So the friend that thought he was on borrowed time lost the friend who should have had more time. But one thing someone pointed out is that the love story of the movie is really of a straight guy and his gay best friend, who truly loved each other unconditionally. I mean look at “No More”: those are dear friends who feel comfortable enough with each other at all times to the extent that they act like absolute DORKS when they are together.

Three things: (1) I'm so happy you finally saw the movie! It's one of the best musical movies by far. (2) Andrew sang Why in this movie live so his performance in the scene was raw. (3) The one who did the voicemail message was THE Stephen Sondheim. (Edit: Was doing this comment before I even got to the scene 😅 sorry about that... I will add tho about how it came about: LMM gave Steve a copy of the voicemail message and then Steve told Lin that the message was cliche and asked Lin if he could rewrite it and if Bradley (the guy who played Steve) is unavailable to record it, Steve will do it himself and then Lin just asked him to do it.) Also, gosh the Sunday scene still gives me the chills in the best way as a fan of musicals. Welcome to the TTB fan club, Hannah! Hahaha Edit: i can give you a long list of fun facts here but during the Superbia rehearsals, the blue shirt Andrew was wearing was actually Jonathan's.

Please do give more facts
@dlmbs2 жыл бұрын
@@evejones9781 oh! Hahaha well then... I might edit and add more but here are more that I can say at the top of my head: - The first scene they shot, according to LMM, was actually the Why scene because the venue's availability was limited. - The woman with the blue/green scarf after the first chorus of Louder Than Words is Julie Larson, Jonathan Larson's sister and the guy not far from her is the director of the OG off-Broadway version of TTB. - The place where they did the swimming scenes was said to be the very place where the real Jon Larson spent most of his time swimming... They first scouted other pool places then Lin just had that "feeling" like there's just something about the one they ended up using. It was almost halfway through or after them shooting the scenes when they found out it was the actual Jonathan Larson hangout spot, if the last few words made any sense. - According to Andrew, the director's chair they used with the computer is, you guessed it, actually Jonathan Larson's. - The set designer were very keen for details when it comes to recreating Jon's apartment. From the paint-splattered white sofa to the bookcase bending to the tapes to even the paintings (which were painted by Jon's friends and then gave LMM the blessing to have that for the set as well) - Also, you might have missed Chris Jackson's (Benny [ITH] & George Washington [Hamilton]) cameo in the LTW audience. He was the one who entered the theater before Louder Than Words and was in front of Steve Sondheim during the audience montage. I mean, the movie was so special to me to the point that I got to read and watch other reviews and analyses to get to know and admire Jon and his work even more.

About the "spitting in the mask" thing: yup, swimmers do that. I swam for about 14 years at competition level but rarely did it. It is done so that the goggles don't fog up because of the change in temperature, the water on the outside of the glass is usually much colder than the air or your face on the "inside" :D Though from my own experience, doing it with goggles like Andrew is wearing in that scene is just not that necessary, since it will only fog up for a short while, and if he is not in a competition and pressed for time, he could just wait for it to clear. Most swimmers or divers do this when they wear masks that also cover their nose: the additional warm airflow from your nose will most definitely let your goggles fog up even when you've been in the water for a while. The spit kind of neutralizes that. So yeah, here you all have a nice, overly long comment about spitting in goggles. You're welcome. xD

I think your reaction particularly during the climax and buildup of louder than words was everybody else's reaction too. It seems like your expression on your face was like mine where I was thinking often through the movie, "wholy crap! I can't believe Andrew Garfield could sing, let alone like that and play too." and even though I don't know him of course, I couldn't help but feel crazy proud for him and what he accomplished and did in this role and these performances, probably just from being a fan of his other movies, starting with spiderman way way back. Dude's a solid dude with ridiculous work ethic and passion for what he does.

I always love that look in Andrew’s face when Josh is singing 30/90 like Andrew is just vibing (well, the whole song is just vibing just still).

During the song "Louder than words" at the end of the first verse, Andrew looks off to the side. Sitting in the seat immediately after the camera pans is Julie Larson (wearing the blue scarf), Jonathan Larson's sister. Not only did she serve as an executive producer, she also (obviously) has a cameo as well. :)

Ugh, this movie is so freaking good! And Jonathan Larson wrote some dang good music. I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat, especially Come to Your Senses and Swimming. Though, the harmonies in Louder Than Words are beautifully chilling. So glad you reacted!

Hi! I am a swimmer and spitting in the mask is actually common. It keeps the inside of the goggles from fogging up due to the layer of moisture. Although most of my friends prefer to dip their goggle's in the pool for a second.

21:38 in an interview with Andrew, he said that he was a trained swimmer when he was a kid bc his dad was a swimming coach. They had 2 days to shoot this scene (or more, I don’t remember), but Andrew was like, “I got it in 1 day bc I know how to swim!😂”

Apparently they had hired a swimmer but ended up only using him for a couple of close-up passes 😆 and it was Andrew’s idea to sing underwater!
