Yes, but over 1/3 of tax revenues goes in to healthcare costs. As a result, personal income tax is significantly higher than those in the US. It's not perfect a system, but it's slightly better than being subject to private insurers.

I saw this elderly lady at the counter and I heard her say "I can't pay for both of my meds"..it hurt my heart to hear it. I went up to where she was, took money out of my wallet and paid for it. Hey Vic. Just want to say I've been watching you for years. Thank you for making this video. I am currently going through a similar situation. My wife has serious health issues and she has been on meds to control it for years. Now the insurance company doesn't want to cover the medicine anymore and it's $750 a month it was $10 a month. We are fighting but everyday that goes by is another day she could have an attack without her medication. It's disgusting what's happening.

sorry you are all going through this. A friend of mine is currently going through something similar with her mother. Her mother gets asthma, and the only medication that works for her, they stopped covering. The lady has gone a few months without her meds, the insurance company said they only cover an alternative medicine, but those alternatives don't work for her. She tried to fight with the company and had her doctor help her but the company refuses and she can't afford to pay out of pocket...it's either medicine or rent. Very very sad so many Americans are suffering this way.

I never had to really use my insurance....ever. I just had extreme stomach pain, and my insurance says to see my family doctor first, even though I said that I should go straight to the hospital....NO. So, now I owe 250 dollars to Med Express for them to say "go to the hospital ". I spent 4 hours at the hospital and they took an ultrasound and 2 CT scans totalling almost $10,000. My ulcer was aggravating my Gallbladder causing the pain. Really, 10 grand to tell me I need to upgrade from Omeprazole to Protonix.....

As soon as they could the Republicans started stripping away at the ACA. That's why Bernie is right it's time to cut out the middleman, especially the insurance and pharmaceutical companies, we as taxpayers pay for those drugs to be developed and then some private company buys the patent and sells it back to us a thousands of dollars no f*** that, that's what pisses me off.

Health care should be a given from the day we're born! Health care as a whole SHOULD BE A NECESSITY AND NOT A PRIVALAGE! Only the privalaged few get top notch health care insurance. Imagine FOR A MINUTE, if our representatives over there in WASHINGTON DC were in the same boat as the rest of us "working class". I can assure you we'd have health care for all. What I don't understand is why we don't just have a HEALTH CARE TAX? EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN gets coverage from birth until death. I believe Switzerland and France have the best system on the planet!

I'm paying $1000/mo for insurance for just me that basically covers NOTHING until I spend $7000 PER YEAR out of pocket. I call it "Insurance for Nothing". And it is the lowest cost plan available in my area. Spend $6500 a year heaven forbid and January rolls around and the clock resets and you're back to zero. And who made up these geographical boundaries? You can't buy an insurance plan unless it is offered in your STATE and COUNTY. 2 miles from me is the county line, across that line there are other insurance plans that cost less but I am not allowed to purchase them. Both myself and the folks across the line go to the SAME doctor but yet we are not permitted to have the same insurance.

He told the surgeon “give me a few hours and I’ll get the money”. My dad found out that the money was going to come from a loan where the man leveraged HIS HOME as capital. He told the surgeon , who was a decent human being and stopped him, and arranged to make a payment plan after the surgery was performed. True story. I worked/lived in Africa in the 90s. Seems someone was always coming down with malaria. Had it myself 11 times in 7 years. Anyway, when you recognized malaria was imminent you went to the pharmacy and bought over the counter enough pills to treat one case for about $2.50. A coworker came to the US on break and came down with malaria. He went to the Dr and told the doc what he had. The Dr said he was the Dr and they'd have to run some tests to see what the problem was. Next day a nurse called to tell my coworker he had malaria and needed to come to the hospital. They admitted him and placed him on a 72 hour drip. After 3 days he went home and the insurance got a bill for $5,000. Let's see……$2.50 or $5,000?

I would go as far as to say the insurance companies have blood on their hands. I know personally a women who decided to start a family with her husband, unfortunately she developed a hormonal induced aggressive breast cancer. She decided to keep her baby and forgo the chemo early on. she waited to after she had her baby and then aggressively got treatment. The treatment was hinging on frequent PET scans but the insurance would pay for them, and she died some months after giving birth to her son leaving her husband with a new born and a widower. Sounds like murder to me, if I had antivenom and was standing next to a snake bite victim and refused to give it to him, that's murder. I am gen X, I grew up with free healthcare or very inexpensive at most, so this modern healthcare system is like a dystopian existence to me. High deductible HSA are basically no insurance unless your really fucked and you have no choice but to pay 6K or more and for people living paycheck to paycheck , bankruptcy. In the US more people declare bankruptcy due to unexpected medical treatments than anything else.

What I don't understand is why people are so against a single payer system? M4A means you cut out the middle man, who you're paying for no reason! This also means the wages you get taken off you goes back to you and you an instant pay rise. You're just paying a little more in taxes knocking out copays and deductibles. It's like a triple bonus! If you wanna pay for your care, that would be a private affair. It's a no-brainer!

The system is meant for us to work till we die. Living a basic no thrills live style means your in debt up to your eye brows. Not being able to afford to retire and working till you die, they win, not having to pay out S.S. or any pension. Yep the people in power will always win.
