Despite being terrible at all sports, I somehow managed to get to hang out with Bernard Foley in Kyushu for 3 days and we had a blast! Kyushu Tourism took us through Fukuoka, Oita and Kumamoto prefectures and covered everything from soy sauce factories to Rugby World Cup to biking through Mt Aso. I hope you enjoy it!

Felt like so much is packed into this video/trip that I'll need to watch again. I'm so happy to see you get praised for your work and Bernard being flexible with filming. Close call with MT Aso, indeed too much volcano, and glad there were no casualties. Nice job, time to relax with some tea I hope. XD

This and the previous Kyushu video - beautiful! I visited Kyushu for work many times in the 1997-2001 timeframe. We would stay near Hakata station and worked in Saga with a company there. A dear friend Tosa-san took three of us to Mt Aso for a day visit and then to meet his parents in Kumamoto. So many great memories these videos bring back. Thank you both!

Unagi no Nedoko is one of my favorite shops! The craftsmanship of every item is incredible. I unfortunately don’t speak Japanese, but one of the workers was able to tell me about the pants they sell, and how a few of them have stitching that depicts something unique from each prefecture in Kyushu, so for example the ones representing oita had an onsen symbol. Yame is amazing ! Love the vid!

Wow, this felt almost as fast a bullet train, so much to taking in a brief time. Those were some beautiful locations. What was the place called where the rooms were slices of circular building. I like how the terrain used is kept in it’s original shape. I’m not sure what the official name or correct term used for those particular pools, but here I’ve heard them called thermal pools where cracks called thermal fischers where extreme heat ins escaping from the core to the surface. Some looked like thermal mud baths as well. There are some here in the west coast of the US like in Oregon and California, but none as thick as those shown in the video. Only place I’ve seen any thing close to those there are in Yellowstone National Park. What was the duration of your whirl wind tour? I’m curious as to the reason for those stairs being placed in the trail like that? Oh, and are those beds constructed like huge futons? Some of the footage your cuts were extremely brief, not even 3 seconds of some interesting places. It was nice of you to include the footage of that crater exploding after your visit. Okay, I didn’t get motion sticking at the speed of this video, but I am winded. Look forward to your next trek.

Nice to see a side of Kyushu I hadn't seen before. Aso was erupting the time we were there too, so we couldn't get closer than the approach road just out of town. It wasn't as explodey as the eruption a few weeks ago but it was cool to see it smokin' like a smokin' thing. Our cabin over in Kurokawa Onsen rattled with a few aftershocks that night. Not enough to spill any water from our onsen though.😂 I deadset want to try one of those mushrooms too.

That E-MTB little cycle around Mt Aso did look very good. Where do you rent them from, that plateau where the museum is? (I hiked a bit around there. I imagine that knowing that if you had been doing that just a few days later you would have been roast might have a titillating edge... In reality I'm sure that whole area would have been an exclusion zone when the sensors started to show increased activity. Pretty massive phreatic eruption, though) Nice to see 2 Aussie legends (+1 international 😉) fraternizing. Also, happy to see that the promotional gigs are starting to come back. 🙏, Hannah.

Yeah the bikes can be rented from the where the Museum is, at the building in the video. And yes I think that’s why there were no casualties, because they have very good warning sensors that can detect any kind of activity so I’m sure nobody was allowed in around that time. Luckily!

A-S-O, too much volcanWAIT, wrong channel D: D: D: Kyushu is definitely worth a two-week slow trip. My current plan is to fly in via Fukuoka (we don't fly into Kochi, sadly), ride a ferry to Ehime, then go around and across the whole island - bike, train, bus, hike, whatever it takes. Then bike across the Shimanami Kaido to work my way to Osaka where I'll fly out. RIP legs by then LOL Thanks for the video, hope the country opens up to foreign tourism (maybe even emigration?) next year!
