Tidying Up My Succulent Garden After Being Away for Two Weeks

Greg and I were enjoying some time up at the ranch in Northern California but cut the trip early because of bad air quality. I am so happy to be back in my garden and making videos for you. We start a new project on the 13th and have a large maintenance on the 8th. My garden looks great even with my absence. There are some weeds that I love to pull. Unfortunately I lost a couple special specimens but we all can’t bat a thousand. The beautiful pottery was done by Susan Aach you can find her website at susanaachceramics.com

Happy to have you all back. But I'm super glad you got to relax and recharge. The spawn's of Satan have made a NICU out of my Alyssum! Titty bitty snails all over it. One day I removed 29 baby Spawn's of Satan! Now, every 2-3 days I'm checking the Alyssum for them!

love it... Laura, I must say - I watch gardening videos to get "inspired" to get outside, and yours are #1 for me! Even if you say you're just tidying, or doing mindless chattering/rambling, you're not - majority of these other plant you tubers are soooo frenzied and long-winded, its physically/mentally exhausting at times. I moved a hedgehog aloe and tried to Laura it - cut off its roots , peeled off the lower leaves and stood it up amongst some ground cover crassula. I checked it out a couple of months later and the root area was starting to rot - no roots. Anyways, I chopped off the rot, pulled off the bottom leaves again, and have left it aside for a while to harden off. When it stops raining, I’ll pop it back in it’s place (it’s spring, so not too hot yet) and see how it goes. I’m a scientist! And a Laura. Thanks for the inspiration.

I was wondering if you we’re aware of No.Cal wildfires when you said you we’re going to your ranch, I checked the air quality index up there & it showed unhealthy air, i live in the Bay Area, about less than 400 miles from your ranch & we got hazy, orange sky sometimes so we spent many days indoor. I’m glad you got out of there. I’ve watched all your old clips by now 😁

Hack for determining wet soil-- use a bamboo kebab skewer like a toothpick with brownies... if it comes out clean, then it is good to water. If it comes out dirty, it needs a little more time before watering!! 😁😁😆😆
