During the Pre-Season (exhibition) that year, since shootouts were new. Even if a game wasn't tied, the game would have a shootout at the end just for fun. So that the players, coaches and fans would know the rules inside out by the time the regular season started. It was just to get everyone used to it. It was only for like 12 games or so before the season started.

Indeed. Divisions with real names of heritage and history. Hockey games with unspoiled anthems. Not a new cause being peddled every night to people who just want to leave worries behind and cheer their team. Yes there was more fighting - but oddly we didn't need bag searches and emergency drills back then. I am and was a Wings fan so Leafs will always be on my rival list. But major respects to anyone from Domi to Wendel to Secord. Still remember the Jacques Demers and John Brophy days too. Fun stuff. Not all data driven and QR codes and scan this and that. Truly I miss it. Also didn't need. 17 new rules being added every other day.

@draziom902 Actually Fighting has been in Hockey as long as hockey has existed. Hockey is a unique sport because it encompasses so many different elements and as someone who played hockey and was an enforcer (someone who fought a lot) I can honestly say that if fighting were removed it would no longer truly be hockey. The Soviet teams, the Swedish teams the Czech teams they all fought when they played each other, often the teams still fight each other. Its all part of a very passionate game.

@lucbessonium Tie Domi is an enforcer, not someone that is usually sent out in a shootout, and for him to score is just surprising. That and the fact it's a preseason game so everyone's a bit more laid back and can joke around like this.

@sandmonkey322 It was the first year the shootout was implemented, and it was the pre-season. They put a shootout at the end of every exhibition game to get players and coaches accustomed to it. Putting Domi on the list was merely for "teh lulz".

tie domi is a defender, and usually lights the bodies rather than the lamp. the announcers mustve been expecting sundin (a goal scorer) but they put out a guy who never scored a goal. they thought the goalie would make an easy save.

Damn straight it was! But I was surprised the fan threw some punches as well (never underestimate a drunk Philadelphian). Maybe he did deserve it, but the athlete's gotta maintain his composure. I won't say Domi doesn't have any, I have a hard time w/ Philly fans myself (and I AM one... whole other story, however)
