Man you look ripped as hell. I am so surprised I don't see a bong in the background. :)

I am a 501st member, and I gotta say, thank you for uploading this. I sincerely mean it! The techniques you provide here have carried on with me for many years in other projects outside of star wars, before and after I joined the Legion. I just recently searched for this again, so that I can build my 7 year old his favorite costume on a nice budget! ~DZ-7357

even if your costumes aren't screen accurate they are pretty damn cool, your homemade costumes looks more like the real thing then some of the costumes you buy online!

Yes, painting a cheap stormtrooper helmet black will work in a pinch, but it does look different than the TIE helmet. The TIE helmet has the "mohawk' ridge along the top, and the ear plates look different. But for a fan film, probably no one would notice. :)

Very good HerrGeneral. Very cost efficient. The cardboard , and sale sign ideas, well iv never thought of that. Good job

im a 501st, and it took me years of redoes and mistakes because i used paper and bondo, and i have to say, it may not be screen accurate, but it sure is close enough. nice work
@mikegallant8113 жыл бұрын
So what if it ain't screen accurate? As long as it looks right,and is fun to wear,who gives a turkey?

Hey I am also in a costume club and worked with the 501st. And the problem of this organisation ist, that for some it is not about Star Wars or making a child laugh. No! It is just about discriminate other people, because they don´t want to spend thousands of dollars for costumes or just haven´t the money. And that´s what this video is all about! Iflank´s TIE Fighter Pilot costume is a great way to get an fine looking AND cheap costume!

I am always impressed at each of your costumes, you manage to get a decent looking costume with such little to work from.

sweet! I think that this one turned out looking a bit better than the stormtrooper costume, but they are both very good looking. Keep em coming!

Really awesome costume. I plan on making my own soon, depending on money. One question about the helmet though, is that the so called 'Tie Fighter Collectors Helmet' that I see around? Thats the helmet I plan on using. Great Video! Great Costume! Keep 'em coming!

Thank you for the great ideas on how to get a decently made costume that is impressive but doesn't cist an arm and a leg. My friends and family was most impressed when I showed for the Halloween party.

Yes, balsa wood would work well--it's also light enough to be glued on without falling off all the time. In a pinch, you could also carve switches from styrofoam, but the finish wouldn't be as good.

This is an old video I understand but I don't care what anyone says, I absolutely love how it looks and how you did it. You help a lot with the confusion of how to make one, Keep up the good work~
@jnwood9710 жыл бұрын
Not too bad for a fan made costume. Only thing I'd say, the squares you have on the front could be a little smaller. As you say, this isn't a 501st standard costume, but not everyone needs that.
@mauriciorodriguez68696 жыл бұрын
Where exactly did you get that helmet? I’ve been trying to find one that’s available while being on a tight budget. But overall, that looks amazing
Hi im just proposing an alternative to ur rocker switches on the chest plate. Instead of using the microwave dinner box another cheap alternative would be to use bulsar wood, it cheaap and soft enough to be cut with sisors and would look a bit more solid than the card board but brilliant work nonetheless
@squiddie9615 жыл бұрын
that is cool!

@lflank Nazis is a bit harsh bro. I am a member of the 501st and we do alot of events where accuracy is a must, like promotional events for Lucasfilm, or any of their licensees. We have alot of talented people making our stuff, 99% of it is fan made. None the less, your work is pretty awesome. I love seeing how people can use their mind to create the proper shapes to pull off a costume. Ive been making costumes sincve i was a kid. Well done my freind.

Yes. You can also cut the vest part out from a sheet of black vinyl instead of plastic signs--that will work too..

hi iflank remember when you bought a stormtrooper helmet well buy another one atach things to it spray paint it black and take a silver marker and draw signs and stuff on their that way you can save your money about 30-40 dollars worth
@Spectacular_Insanity14 жыл бұрын
It might not be perfectly "screen-accurate", but you'd do George Lucas proud.
@lflank12 жыл бұрын
The vinyl fits more snugly---but it costs a LOT more.

Which method would you prefer using, in your personal opinion?
@platoon16713 жыл бұрын
Hey, Is that a Rubies or a Don Post helmet? It should say the company/maker somewhere on the back of the helmet. Thanks!

lflank, Thanks for posting this video! I will be getting a TIE pilot helmet for my birthday (which is tomorrow) and I plan to make a full suit for Halloween this year. I will be heavily relying on your video for tips. One question I have for you though: In order to properly size the chest/back armor, would you recommend cutting pieces from cardboard to try and properly fit them before making the final cuts in the "for sale" signs?
@Woggyflush12 жыл бұрын
@lflank don't mind. as a TIE fighter pilot, you just blast any obstacles away!

Dude. You don't need a mask for this: Make John Lennon's costume from Sgt. Pepper. It's you, bro!.
@lflank15 жыл бұрын
The pure black makes them really really hard to film, too. All the detail gets lost. I suppose that's why Lucas added the silver details on the helmet in ROTJ.

You will not get in the 501st with it -- they are Nazis about costume accuracy. This costume is intended for use in fan films. It's not intended for trooping.

Nope, any calf-high black boot will do, but leather looks the best.
@lflank15 жыл бұрын
I prefer to make stuff too rather than buy it. Any doofus with a checkbook can BUY a sooper-dooper thousand-dollar 100%-screen-accurate Lucas-licensed replica. But MAKING something for a fan film from scrap parts, that looks good on camera, is easy to make, and doesn't cost a month's pay, takes talent, imagination and creativity -- things that the "write a big check and buy one" folks, don't have.

@mikegallant8112 жыл бұрын
I think you stick the ends of the hoses into the front end of the helmet but you might have to drill the holes for them first unless the TIE fighter pilot helmet already has holes!

No one is "slamming" anybody. All of you guys from the 501st are utterly missing the point. These costumes don't meet 501st standards because **that's not what they are for**. They are intended as prop costume for fan film makers (especially young ones) who want stormtroopers or TIE pilots in their films but can't afford to spend $200-$800 for a costume. If that isn't what you want, then these aren't the costumes you're looking for. You can go about your business. Move along.

Tee hee hee. . . No, I don't work for George Lucas. But if he's watching and wants to make an offer . . . ;)
@Davy.J.Y13 жыл бұрын
good work..but its not screen acurate:P..{ sorry i could not help myself matey..}
@hbrika15 жыл бұрын
If you buy the kits you practically have to learn a new skill set to make it fit you. Its taken me months and a lot of creativity to build my suit. While I admire what you are doing slamming people who do it the other way is just wrong. Easy and Storm trooper kit are not 2 phrases I would put together.

Tee hee hee. Of course, unless it was made by Lucasfilm, neither is anyone else's. :)
@lflank12 жыл бұрын
@TD4418 You miss the entire point, utterly. My costumes are intended for use in fan films by people who don't have big bank account. They are not intended to be screen-accurate stuff for the 501st. If the 501sters would simply accept that, all would be well. But alas they all have to be arrogant dickheads about it. It's pointless and annoying, and doesn't win you any friends.
