I found some loops that has a spike with a spur on the side like a fish hook well it's been on the end of my float line 25 yrs now the spare one in the pkg has rusted some been that long , That is a neat tool

not just for fly fishing, its a good all purpose for bass fishing too. You can do a Uni Knot version of it too to graph two lines together to set up your leader line.

I use this tool for fly fishing as well as "dark side" gear fishing. You can totally make your own Snell leaders with this, tie on swivels and hooks, etc. My advice is not to get the black one because if you drop it in rocks, it's hard to find. Just my thinking.

Doing nail knots literally almost made me give up fly fishing. Having to do them by hand is unbelievably irritating for beginnings, these tools and this video look perfect. Can't wait to grab one of these for 11 bucks at Canadian tire.

You can tie a nail knot exactly the same for pennies. Use a piece of shrink tubing.

Real Men don't use this tool ! Just take your flyline end in your left hand, with the line end pointing right. Now make a 5" loop in the butt end of your leader. The loop pointing left. Now, lay the loop over the flyline & pinch them all together. Now twist the tag end of your loop over & around the bundle of lines. Do this seven times working toward the bend of the loop. Keep the wraps tight, then poke the tag end through the loop eye. Wet the line with your tongue & pull on each the tag end & leader line. Smoothly pull until it is tight around the fly line. Now pull the leader & the fly line apart to snug the knot. Just trim the tag & you're done.
