Long ago, as a joke, I bought an album called "Greatest Dance Hits of the 1500s (and 1600s)". I fell in love with Early Music because of this album. This song was on it. Thank you!

When I was in college in the mid-80s I bought an old album of music of the XII-Xiii centuries. Turns out it was one of the earliest commercial recordings of medieval music.

This is a modern performance! Since the US/American national anthem dates back only to 1814 and became official in the 1930s, this music wouldn’t be considered “early”ᒭᐢᑖᐢ ᓂᑑᑌᒼ 💖🌺

This takes me back to the 70's when I was learning and playing early music with only plastic recorders and an old guitar tuned like a lute, dreaming of the day when I could play a crumhorn or a real lute... Day dreaming over the Early Music magazine advertisements from instrument makers... Wishing I had all the money in the world to buy them! I am very thankful to You tube for making this wonderful music available worldwide! Scholares Minores definitely have a new (elder) follower! Awesome and refreshing!

What a magnificent arrangement! It brings back heavenly memories of both dancing the Basse Dance and marching to a brass arrangement of this Susato piece in the train of Queen Elizabeth I at our annual Renaissance Pleasure Faire in the Blackwoods forest in Marin County, CA. The piece is also brilliantly used in a hilarious Monty Python sketch in which a "high concept" Elizabethan costume drama is being filmed - with courtiers on motorcycles! At least I THINK it was this Susato piece!
@peers855120 күн бұрын
Yes, you are correct. This is the piece used for the motorcycle-riding Elizabethan courtiers. And every time they played it - whether at Ren Faire in the Black Point forest or at a PEERS Renaissance Ball, SOMEONE would imitate a motorcycle revving up. Fortunately, the brass ensemble usually drowned out the imaginary motorcyles!
