Jakob, your videos on these iPad music apps are a constant reminder of the creative possibilities I neglect to check out because I'm always using either Figure, iKaossilator, Gadget, Caustic or even the old ReBirth on my iPad or Reason or Ableton on my PC. Your reviews open up endless insight and inspiration for me about these useful apps, and I plan to purchase the ones in this list that I don't already have. I also like your methods in making your videos, inserting neat little transitions and odd humor and even outtake material. Good work! LONG LIVE FIGURE! I love Beatonal and I'll be getting that one soon for sure!!! Thanks again!

Korg Gadget is probably the closest to Reason on iOS though - as new “racks” are still being added from time to time, and some by Propellerhead. Reason Compact was one of the few apps I sincerely regretted buying. Their iOS development team has gone downhill since the amazing Thor :(

I’d be very interested in seeing a video showing off your Drambo groovebox, how you made it, and why it’s your “dream groovebox”. Lately I’ve been frustrated at the fact that the features I love in iOS music making apps seems to be spread across multiple apps and that I haven’t found my ideal “one stop shop” solution. I’ve been making sketches and looking to learn coding so as to make this solution myself, but I’d love to see if I would be able to build my ideal solution in Drambo.

I like groove boxes so I already own at least 5 - 10 of these, but there were also lots of them I never saw before.... My definition of a good iOS Groovebox is: 1. You can step sequence patterns very quickly. 2. You can build an arrangement from the patterns. 3. You have access to both drums and synths. I would really like to do the scoring but I am afraid this is a bit too much work at the moment, because it will take quite some time before I tested out all the ones I never saw before.

I would put ampifys groovebox above reason compact for the main reason of when you select preset in groovebox it starts playing a loop instead of reasons having to build it first. Just my opinion.

Glad to see you give some love to Drambo! I've been getting deeper into an ios creative practice and Drambo is becoming my ultimate beat box. You're right tho, you've got to build it and that can be a good thing for some. I'd love to have a look at "Haq Box", is that what you called it? I tried to get into the Elektron RYTM ll and I think Drambo covers that territory instead for me without the button combos that I couldn't seem to keep track of. Plus the great samplers, unlimited signal chains, logic, random, probability, plus plus plus...... At present I'm just trying out different concepts and dreaming up different little mini machines to run inside the app. Still has a few bugs that keep popping up and the promised inclusion of Link will be a huge plus. I'm down for it!

Thank you for the vid. Nice one. Just two things: Bleass just provides a clean interface but this clean interface is a flow killer since you have to do lot of menue diving for changing every parameter. Than all these forth- and backwards in the menue. Every clever UX designer knows, things must happen on one screen and not in the 2. or 3rd screen and then going all the way back again. The other case is: Reason can‘t do many things just as the Ampify Groovebox does so I would not place Reason at the same position as Ampify Groovebox. But yeah, just my personal view. Big like for your work ✌️

I'm kinda interested in making my own custom groovebox in Drambo now. A dreambox? Drambox? Dreambo? Drambo is such an inspiring but dense program from someone with little to no modular experience. I would love to see a walkthrough of your Drambo setup. You don't have to put too much effort into the vid, just a "this is what I did" kind of thing. Jakob Haq Hi Jakob, I know there is no more Rebirth in AppStore for new users and it work only on older devices because of 32 bit, but If someone accidentally deleted Rebirth from iPad, can't it be downloaded again by person who bought it? Apple should keep that possibility for their users who paid for it IMHO. Please do not try this to not lose software :) I'm just curious. Kind regards.
@afmfintech4 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure if you bought Rebirth, you can re-download it. Reason Studios still has a developer account, and it is 64-bit compatible. Those are the two main reasons an app becomes unavailable (alas, Alchemy).
@MrDakti4 жыл бұрын
Aaron McPherson : Unfortunately I didn't bought Rebirth on iPad :( In the old days I had it on PC. I wonder if is someone here who want to check it, delete Rebirth on iPad in order to download it again :) [If somebody know the result, please let us know :)] As I know it work only on 32 bit iOS system and there was no Rebirth for 64 bit iOS. [Let me know if I am wrong] It's a pity that Roland didn't get along with Propellerhead to leave app in AppStore and the Rebirth was removed. Maybe one day Roland itself will make "Rebirth" (2 x 303 + 808 + 809) for 64 bit iOS. Would be awesome. At least we can still use Rebirth on PC. [although there is probably more fun on the iPad touch screen] As of September 2005 support for ReBirth was discontinued by Propellerhead software and the software became available online as a free download. More info about it on wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReBirth_RB-338

What are the characteristics that define a groovebox. It has to be groovy, but doesn't have to have anything to do with boxes. When did groovy leave the English vocabulary? For a period of maybe 5 years, it was one of the most common words and suddenly it was gone until groove boxes appeared. But they are groove boxes, not necessarily groovy box. Groovy groove box. Ahhhhhh You should do a video on fantastic apps that no one uses, like caustic, zillidrone etc. Why caustic has never become a Gadget is beyond my understanding. It actually has an audio file editor that could be sold on its own for the same price as caustic. Anyway, like usual, I digressed like crazy. Have fun Jakob.

I'd argue that SunVox i simply put a modular synth, but then again... we have Drambo on the list, which is not only a groovebox, but also... a modular synth. So... yeah, I think I MIGHT have used SunVox on my tierlist too! But I totally disagree with your opinion on Drambo. Like, I agree, and then I disagree. I would put it on S tier for sure, ultimately if you know how to use Drambo it is probably the only app on this tierlist *IMO* that is even better than GR-16. Especially considering that it's supposed to EVENTUALLY get a wavetable synthesizer engine, which is essentially the reason I bought GR-16 AFTER getting Drambo. Both GR-16 and Drambo are imo the best apps on this list! That being said, I guess you just put it on S tier cause it's a "weird" groovebox. but it's definitely a groovebox, it's just a groovebox you have to sort of create *like you did*. Super solid video anyway though, and you know what! I might just take you on it and make one today. I'm trying this new OBS setup to do stuff in real-time so I don't have to edit it and therefore be able to post it almost immediately. This seems like a perfect candidate to try it out! EDIT: LMAO the ending of your video! Hahaha literally the same thing I've been looking for since forever. You are gonna have to check my video out... I think it's a pretty rad setup and it's SO good it might be just what you need! XD

@@JakobHaq dude I know I said it was a fast production and like that is actually very true... I just haven't had time at all because this friday is my deadline for class registration for a masters I just got into. I will post it ASAP and send you the link though! I´d say at this point (it´s close to being done), it probably will take (in total) somewhere around 8 to 12 hours (recording it all, cutting it, editing a bit, a few effects here and there and a few mini jams in the end (which are what will probably add a few hours to my production, otherwise this could have probably been done in 4-6 hours). Considering it´s like a 40-45 mins video, that´s a pretty solid turnaround cycle imo! Too bad i´m having to spread those hours in between little breaks I´m having here and there. I do think this might be just what you need! once I send it to you feel free to let me know if you´d want some help to set it up. I´d be super down to help you out. Cheers bud!

Jakob Haq Patterning is more a eucledian midi sequencer than a sampler. It does use samples indeed, but it doesn’t sample😜 I wish it did.
