Cybershark is definitely the best Deluxe figure of the entire line. Yes, he's a shellformer but he's a pretty great shellformer, his transformation gets straight to the point and in Beast Wars is very silly to complaint about "partsforming" since that was the line's whole deal, not to mention the great articulation, gimmicks and personality the toy has. Polar Claw is something I'm surprised seeing so high here. The deco is fine and the gimmicks are cool but the leg articulation is severely hindered by the "teeth" gimmick and overall I see it as a worse version of Scorponok. This is why I was looking forward to an update that could fix all those issues.

One thing that I find interesting about Beast Wars as a toyline is how for the 1997 run of toys, they eliminated the flipchanger gimmick, but still had several figures (Cybershark, Drillbit, etc.) with flipchanger engineering. fun fact: Transmetal Rattrap mimicks his original figure's flipchanger engineering. Transmetal Terrorsaur does not, but for some reason Transmetal Waspinator is engineered like a flipchanger. With regards to the Iguanus/Megatron mold. One thing I really like is how they were able to convey the scale of each animal using the figure's deco in conjunction with its head/body ratio. The Megatron figure's beast mode head is proportioned to emphasize the body and the deco calls attention to the texture of the scales, which gives the impression of a larger animal. By contrast, the Iguanus figure's head is much larger in comparison to its body and the deco de-emphasizes the scale texture, which gives the impression of a smaller animal, and I just think it's really clever that they were able to make the same mold look so different with such minimal changes. Something worth keeping in mind when you get to the fuzors is that many of them share engineering cues with some of the earlier figures, which suggests that they were intended to be actual fusions of those characters. for example, Fuzor silverbolt shares a lot of engineering cues with both the Magnaboss Silverbolt figure (wings are large missile launchers with handheld weapons stored on them, talons become feet, etc.) and the Wolfang figure (robot mode head resembles mutant head, wolf limbs end up on arms), and even incorporates a similar action gimmick to Airrazor. Sky Shadow is very obviously meant to evoke the engineering of Jetstorm (wings fold against front of torso, robot head shoots from mouth with weapon stored in beast mode abdomen/tail, etc). Injector features a lot of similarities with Waspinator/Buzzsaw (rear insect legs become robot legs, stinger becomes missile launcher, etc). Torca shares some design cues with Ironhide and Rhinox (lower jaw becomes chest, sides open to reveal Robot torso, two halves of hips come together in the middle, tusks end up on either side of head, front and rear limbs remain front and rear limbs, etc. Side note, I like how the water squirting gimmick evokes the orca's blowhole). Terragator very much seems like a combination of the flipchanger Megatron and Snapper figures. Magnaboss vs Tripredacus, or as it's known today, GPS vs CPS. The Tarantulas figure wasn't given a cartoon-accurate deco until the BW 10th release. Originally, he was translucent brown.

Yes! The tier list I've been most excited for! I predicted a lot of the placements on here, too. Polar Claw was higher than I expected, I would have put him mid-premium. Drill Bit and Rhinox were lower than expected, although I admit that Drill Bit is a mess. I agree about Rattrap. Iconic character aside, his toy is very clunky and backheavy and mine has never even really wanted to stand up. Powerpinch is way too low though. He's very unique, I like how he flips through himself to transform, and his robot cleans up very nicely.

I got Inferno recently, and honestly he's really nice. My only problem is the loose ball joints in his ant and robot mode legs. But I'd put him next to Scorponok on a list. Cybershark I'd also put higher, the amount of play features on him is awesome and he looks really cool as well.

Long winded but - I got back into Transformers with Earthrise, I've gone back and filled in most of what I want from Siege, and am damn near a completionist now. This channel (and a handful of others) has become such a staple of my routine, especially while I'm working / drawing. Just wanna say I'm extremely grateful for all you do @TJ, wish I'd had the nerve to actually say hi in Orlando last year, but just know your videos mean a lot to me!

I would love to see you do a tier list of the updated Beast Wars figures from Legacy, Kingdom, Generations, and even Rise of the Beasts. Although since we are still waiting on Quickstrike, Depthcharge and Rampage to complete the cast who knows when you could actually do it.

39:07 There are two that I know of. There's the Purple Pinktoe Tarantula and the Purple Bloom Birdeater. Neither of them are close to the shade that Tarantulas is though.

I personally would have put Ramhorn in Flea Market below Retrax. The combiner aspect just ruined that figure. I do appreciate the love for K9. I love that figure.

@@EungsuLee Yeah, Retrax was my entry point into the franchise. Even after I got rid of him, (losing both the head and both legs in the process I kept seeing him pop up at said thrift store. And the later I saw him, the more I noticed his missing pieces were returning. And I don't even fucking know how given I'm pretty sure the character and toy were both unpopular.

Optimus Primal is boring, I never got him originally because he looked boring and when I finally got him he was boring. Inferno under-rated, K-9 over-rated.

I have very strong feelings on this, especially since I own or have owned just about all of these figures. I think your assessment was fair, but some of my favorites I rank higher: Armordillo, Snapper (should be Holy Grail), Jetstorm (should be Holy Grail), and Rhinox. He may not look like his show model, and he has kibble, but it's part of his aesthetic. He's a fun toy with a fun transformation who looks like a samurai. I'd put K9 much, much lower. He's the second worst deluxe after Retrax. I'd put bat Primal in Bargain Bin, worst of the auto-transforming basics.

Personally I would split Beast Wars into three parts. Part 1 would be all the organic looking beast modes. I'd include Fuzors here. I know they're technically suppose to be Transmetals according to the show but I don't think they match that aesthetic with their organic beast modes. There is 1 exception and I'll bring that up later. Part 2 would be all the Original Transmetals. Basically if it's a triple changer with a robotic beast mode and organic robot mode it goes here. Part 3 would be the TM2s and this is where I make my exception for the Fuzors because Tigerhawk actually feels like he belongs here. I'd put the Cyberbeasts here as well and really anything that doesn't fit the aesthetic of the season 1 or original TM designs. The only thing this doesn't cover are the vehicle Transformers which aren't even really Beast Wars toys. And not just cause they aren't beasts but they literally weren't made for the Beast Wars toy line. If you really wanted to you can make a part 4 just for the Vehicles to be more complete but I just don't think it's fair to compare them to the beasts.

BTW in case it wasn't clear... I'm kind of just throwing BWII and Neo in because they have a few original molds but are mostly just slight repaints of the American toys. And I wouldn't bother with the repaints unless it's been retooled. I'd just pick my favorite color scheme to give the figure the best chance. Like Tarantulus and Tigatron I am going to rank a lot higher than Cheetor and Blackarachnia. Cheetor I'd even put lower than TJ put him because it's not a bad toy it's just a terrible cheetah. Cheetahs are suppose to be these sleek skinny fast runners and Cheetor is the Garfield of cheetahs. Tigatron wears the mold so much better because tigers are much beefier cats so the mold just looks better. I do wish they kept his original prototype colors cause I think the orange tiger looks better than the snow Tiger. But still either way a tiger just works so much better on that mold. Cheetor is like bottom of retail or top of Bargain Bin. I wouldn't go all the way to flea market cause it's still a fun toy it's just not a good Cheetah. Honestly I think Blackarachia is a better Black Widow than Cheetor is a Cheetah. Yeah it's not the right shape but it's not totally right for a tarantula either. It's kind of just this generic spider shape.

i pay 73€ for a lose OG blackarachnia, most of the costs was for shipping alone and actually the cheapest possible. the shipping from USA to Europe is pure hell and endless agony for your wallet. dat is way i don't usually buy anything from america. but blackarachnia is hard... nope impossible to find in europe.

I hate Claw Jaw. I have him, and as cool as he looks, I can't get past how difficult he is to stand up. Also think you were pretty generous with Polar Claw, given how little it looks like an actual polar bear, plus the leg articulation is butts. Fun gimmicks though. Justice for kingdom Polar Claw indeed.
