Great point in the beginning when you mentioned game designers that don't have logos for their game and posts on boardgamegeek.

I personally like the original Statis Pro( started in the 70's) especially when you consider the price etc of the Advanced version. Love that Digital Diamond has Statis Pro "basic" (original).

Good video. Nice job! I love Season Ticket Baseball, but you said it was new and doesn’t have that many seasons out yet. It currently has every season between 1919-2023 available in PDF form. I think Clay is releasing 1900-1918 later this summer. Great game, though!

thanks for the update... might have to relook at this and see what is new..

Season-ticket baseball is amazing. I ordered the printed set of 1986 and they already came organized into their respective teams.

I don't have a print set yet as they just started doing that...

Interesting as always. One game I haven't seen you consider is History Maker Baseball, unless I just missed it. Like all of PLAAY's games, it has a different take on traditional card-and-dice board games, and I imagine people either love it or hate it.

I loved how much you struggled with APBA - I hear ya my friend. My closet has 20 plus seasons - and I haven't touched them in years.

time to dig them out and play a game... do it for old time sake...

Interesting analysis, but really mixing apples and oranges to a degree. A game could be created trying to replicate a season or a season's players based on correct types of formulations. Yet, some games seem closer to being formulated based overall on the league average and players are just randomly getting results off a league average. I also believe a game needs to be tested for accuracy by using enough random testing of a given season, like simulated 30 times via use of a pc. The next thing is precision by the use of dice or fac cards to get direction to results. For example, a game could be based on using 1, 2, 3, or more six siders or maybe using a different base like a dice giving 11 - 88 rolls for direction. Just an example, SOM uses 3 six siders with a 20 sider split. The 3 six siders give us 216 chances now multiple 216 times 20 for the splits gives a precision base of 4,320 chances. Of course, not all chances are split, so the whole results count as 20, for example, a column 1 roll with 2 six siders giving a column 1 row 2 is 1 chance in 216, so is just representative of 20 chances solid or 20 chances being split. I want to see the games tested for accuracy which will never happen in most cases. Just my opinion some games have a good and long history and some games are just a splash in the pan. For testing, playing a few times with a game and saying it appears accurate enough with small samples is bogus. Heck, a game could be created by random sampling without replacement, so a 500 PA batter or a 500 BFP pitcher, would have a 500 count sample. Each time one or the other would give up one of their sample and the standard deviation bell curve would shoot straight up depending on the process to do the random sample result draw. Of course, the old argument would develop with random sampling without replacement "Why not just read the real life box scores for results". That is a fallacy since the sequential order of the results would be in a different consecutive order. Let us not also be fooled there is some flaw in the 50/50 type systems beyond normal mathematical outliers. Some games are created outside the 50/50 model, but have to be tweaked back toward a normal bell curve which a 50/50 model is based. A game like SOM could be batter 1 or 2 columns and pitcher 5 or 4 columns to say the pitcher has a more powerful interaction with the batter, but the formulations would just be hyped up on the batter columns and it could be vice versa with the batter controlling more interaction then again the formulation goes another way on the pitcher columns. Like I always say "turn the gear one way it turns the other gear another way". I believe baseball board games can be formulated for playability, realism, and accuracy. If one of those 3 features is missing the game isn't a D it's crap.

I appreciate your lists based on your preferences and experiences, but to say that you have to go to a chart for every play in Pursue The Pennant is factually wrong. Michael says 70% of the results come directly from the cards and I find that to be similar to my experiences. The colors in the cards you reference, like H&R, actually minimize going to other charts for play results. The history of Pursue The Pennant the board game, Pursue The Pennant computer game and Dynasty League are convoluted for sure, but they never allowed others the permission to use their system. I don’t necessarily have a favorite c&d sim, sometimes I am in the mood for APBA, sometimes Strat and sometimes PtP. As for the wind, weather and rolling for distances, that is only on Deep Drive chances, there are HR results on cards. There is extra rolling on the Range plays for sure. I don’t mind it because it lends itself to the best play visualizations for me.
