I'm not a musician nor a trained professional in the field but I am an avid listener of Chopin and have witnessed dozens of performances and listened to countless CDs. I've even had the privilege of staying at home with one of the "top 10" Chopin pianists. It's really unfair for anyone to play any classical work nowadays because listeners have likely listened to the very best in the world before. Anyway, I've been following this channel for quite some months now and I am deeply impressed at Tiffany Poon's subtlety and her combination of emotion and precision. Thank you, miss Poon, for allowing us to watch you play one of my favorite nocturnes. I suspect that you will be considered one of the greats ("will be" because you're still young). On top of that, you also seem to be a very nice and generous person.

Luís Miguel Viterbo, very nice words about Tiffany, I have been a fan of her for some time too now. Just out of curiosity, may I ask in witch home of a top ten pianist you have stayed?
6 жыл бұрын
@jesper dan Andersen - Maria João Pires. I am friends with one of her daughters. I watched her live before I knew her daughter, and she was from the first moment one of the very few pianists who made me cry, and this happened every time I watched or heard her playing. It strucked some chord in me and I have no idea what exactly in her performance had this effect. Another pianist who always succeeded in that task was Maurizio Pollini, who was for quite some time accused of being too precise thus lacking emotion (he never missed a note and he wasn't theatrical but in my opinion his playing was definitely full of emotion). _(Note: I write in the past although I know Pollini still has a busy recital schedule. I happen to not having attended one of them for quite some years now though.)_

Luís Miguel Viterbo it must be fantastic to get to know Maria Joao Pires, I really like her, but haven’t been listening much to her yet. I remember a video where there is some confusion about which concert she is playing, but she comes out fine. Hope the best for you and your girlfriend. Yes I know what you mean by getting touched by listening to some musicians, (Tiffany is one 😭) I think it is the sincereness and the many hours of practice they do to perform the wonderful pieces for us. I also know of Maurizio Pollini, I saw an interview where Claudio Abbado was present too, who also makes me cry, when I see him conduct. I have no musical education, just love music and the last four years classical has become my absolute favorite.

Luís Miguel Viterbo How wonder full to stay at Maria Pires’ home. I truly love her lovely, gracious impeccable playing. Pires is a legend who I too dearly love. Her art has enriched my soul. Tiffany Poon’s musical sensitivity is touched me.

@ In all honesty, Tiffany's playing reminds me often Maria Joao Pires' - same elegance and sensitivity. M.J. Pires is much less known to the big music world than she deserves, IMHO.

Don't know what chopin was thinking when he was doing this piece, but it's just a perfect balance between peace, joy and a little bit of melancholy, at least for me. I loved how you played this piece, congrats! 💚

Her hands gesture of playing is a disaster for a piano student. Awful enough the girl is no future in PIANO
@coragon42
@coragon42 5 жыл бұрын
@@Dazhi1989 She uses gestures to feel the music more. It's a personal thing, and she has practiced in a way such that the gestures do not mess with her technique nor tone. Also, she has been practicing diligently from a very young age and has already experienced much success; how can you say she has no future with the instrument she continues to pursue?
@haoran3803
@haoran3803 5 жыл бұрын
@@Dazhi1989 there is no rigorous method for actually how to play the piano. The most 8mportant thing is to be able to feel the phrase and phrase endings, and being able to understand what the music is saying. There is so much more to music then just a hand gesture
@haoran3803
@haoran3803 5 жыл бұрын
@@Dazhi1989 the way Tiffany feels the music is very professional and clear. You can hear how she ends a phrase, the dynamics and the rubato, and how her sound is crisp and light during runs. That is what you want.

It is not the same to hear a recording as to watch the pianist perform the piece. The performance itself is art. Watching Tiffany play evokes so many emotions, it is like she is the extension of the piano...the brain behind the mechanical hammers and strings...as a soul puts life into an otherwise lifeless body...

My all time favorite performance of the nocturnes is by Brigitte Engerer. You are the first pianist who played this nocturne equaly beautiful to me. Thank you. I like the fact, that you never slow down too much. You always keep the pulse of the music steady. And you have a nice tone production and articulation. Maybe these are the reasons why I like your Bach playing too. I subscribed.
