To any and all who talk of a need for further development of "tone control" or more "musical maturity" I would point out that Chopin was EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD when he WROTE this sublime masterpiece. I studied it, myself, when I was in my early thirties, and though my earnest effort was nothing I need to apologize for in my wildest dreams I could never have produced a performance as elegant, serenely confident and fully mastered in every minute detail as this. This young woman has been singularly blest by God as few ever have been. I doubt if I ever have or ever will hear a better performance of this concerto, and believe me I have heard EVERYBODY play it, and play it well. THIS is a SUPERLATIVE achievement lacking in NOTHING. I's just GORGEOUS. Ms. Poon is the new NOVAES -- the highest compliment I could pay any pianist.

Hyramess Hiramess The fallacy in your argument is that although Ms. Poon is a fantastic pianist, she is not Frederic Chopin, the greatest genius of Romantic piano composition who ever graced this earth.

An unbelievably magnificent performance of Chopin by Tiffany here at the age of 15 that truly deserves the highest of praise, yet reading through the some of the comments, I despair at those who feel it necessary to criticise her playing in places. In so doing they fail to recognise the brilliance of her achievements. Anyone who follows her very frank vlogs knows that Tiffany is her ‘own’ biggest critic. It’s clear she tries very hard and largely succeeds to achieve flawless performances. She is ‘simply the best’. Well done Tiffany.

not untypical for Piano Concertos in the romantic period to first expose the musical idea in a sonata form for the first 3-5 minutes, then have the soloist pick the idea up, repeat and develop it and then let that flow into the cadenza, before closing the first movement.

Back growing up in the 80's we just had to discipline ourselves from TV being our main distraction of learning anything. These kids here have so much more to pull themselves away from in order to maintain this type of structure to become so talented. In our time we went to the world, now days the world comes to our kids in the form of every electronic device you can think of. There are few kids who can turn from the world in their bedroom to bring talent to our world. So yes we should appreciate these geniuses playing before us.

Distractions are distractions for everyone, in any era, at any age, and there are always too many! :)
@THEBIASEDCOMPOSER
@THEBIASEDCOMPOSER 5 жыл бұрын
@@pianosenzanima1, I Still do not think you are aware of the distractions people in the 80s had. We always had distractions, and we will always have them! Discipline was tough for all, and that is still though. Today kids interact with mobiles, but then you had kids knocking on your door, on the practice rooms, visiting, annoying you, asking to go out with them, and your girlfriend and friends were annoyed that you were always practicing. I believe it is the same amount of distractions, but different. And that is why, it is still the same amount of people that fail at something for the lack of concentration. But comparing different eras is useless, as we will never know, but one thing for sure is that the day has still 24 hours, and one needs to practice many hours a day to get there, and the issue was always there, and still there, unless you live in the countryside, with nothing else to do. As for the brain that's turned off, that's another issue. :)

@@THEBIASEDCOMPOSER :) the day has still 24 hours, but the temptations today are much many more compared to 50 yrs back. But as you said, its all about motivation and self discipline. Once you got those everyday on point nothing can stop you. P.S. but the tempations are still more nowadays than 50 yrs ago :)
@THEBIASEDCOMPOSER
@THEBIASEDCOMPOSER 5 жыл бұрын
Well, may I differ in the opinion that there are more distractions today? The inability of ones mind to concentrate is the reason for any distraction. A little sound, a smell, someone talking, noises, a bird flying, a bell ringing, an itching, your friends, family, anything, anyone, all can be distractions. You believe there are more today? I say, anything can distract the person who doesn't know how to concentrate. And I know people who are so concentrated that even calling them is tough to get their attention.

Playing piano in a beautiful silk dress, effortlessly pretty, clear skin, actually having a jawline, intelligent, etc. I know her life isn't sunshine and rainbows, I'm just saying this video is where I'd want to be. Meanwhile, I'm her age she is in this video and I can't even read sheet music well. I'm hopefully starting piano next year though, it brings me so much joy. Edit: (I know few will read this because the video is from 2013 but anyway,) I just wanted to add I know she worked hard to get where she is today. Plus, she's gifted this talent. Apparently, she got accepted into the Juilliard pre-college program at the age of eight? That's admirable. Wow.

Indeed it is wonderful that young people (but also older) enjoy a piece of great art! Unfortunately not many people around the world care about our heritage! But you seem to make a distinction between Asians and others, which I would not: this is a heritage of all humanity, as far as high art goes, it belongs to a Chinese, as much as to a Polish, or the Bushmen. To say it is your, or my, culture is very inaccurate, as most of us grow with things that are multicultural. Where does one draw the line? And don't we all belong to one humanity. I myself am multicultural, though my upbringing might have been more towards one culture than another, but then, one grows and might expand oneself to include other cultures. Think even about our languages (for example, Polish being a Indo-European language), or objects (for example, the piano created by Italians, with German additions). Think about it. It all depends on what you grew up with, and the tastes you have developed.

I am a Poon fan love her work as a classical pianist who manages to be a better entertainer than any one I can think of but need to mention that the Kawai is demonstrating some engineering superiority to Steinway itself. Particularly in the capo section the piano is speaking so much more prominently than a Steinway does. I was trained to harden hammers for a Steinway in the same section with lacquer to compensate for its inability to speak in the same region of the piano and it is effective, but here it is being demonstrated that a piano can be engineered to do the same thing without hardening the hammers, and that is somewhat less artificial sounding than a hardened Steinway hammer. Thank you Tiffany this is fantastic. Please don't participate in any more competitions you don't need them

Excellent job! Wow! I don't know how you people do it! Plus, the orchestra is fantastic too! I don't think people give enough credit to orchestras.

I felt that I must have heard the best, now here is another one! Wonderful, just mesmerised throughout, just wish I could express myself more deeply. How can anyone dare to criticize such wonderful artistry, especially in these young musicians, they give so much. Thanks for making this available to me, and everyone.

It's amazing the way she plays Chopin: no intellectual things disturbing the character. But everything is well thought! For a young Lady as she is a great and big effort! I like it, even when I'm not a fan of Chopin!. Ms. Poon is a young pianist with a big and great future. Jürgen (old German musician, with classical origin but doing "the other music", like Musicals)

I continue to marvel at her fingering precision. Such comprehension of melodic voicing. Finely graded dynamics. Superb chamber orchestral support. How fabulous a musical treat to hear this Concerto with a larger Steinway and a larger band. OH MAN!

Cóż za cudowne dźwięki, ich barwy, kolorystyka płynie ŻYWCEM z fortepianu u tej Artystki. To ŻYWY CHOPIN.

@@justap19 Agree with you. Personally I consider her the best young Chopin player in these days, and I have listened to Chopin (who is one of my favorite composers) played by Cortot, Rubinstein, Cliburn, Brailowski, Horowitz, Barenboim, Pollini and Yuja Wang, who are considered the best by the experts.
