I love the hat but babies tends to be sensitive to fibers like mohair. My youngest had severe eczema and its pretty common for Asians living in North America. A friendly suggestion, use cotton blend or acrylic yarns because its baby friendly and less tedious for moms to wash like just toss them in the washer.

Small babies also cannot regulate their own temperatures and something like acrylic can make them sweaty. Cotton and bamboo are good but also a soft wool or silk blend is great too but mohair sheds so much it can actually be a choke risk with young babies so I'd be very wary gifting it. I only dressed my newborn in natural fibres and when they needed to be washed I just soaked them in a basin of water. It isn't exactly intense plus hats don't need to be washed that often.

I would prefer soft merino like Drops Extra Fine merino to acrylic yarn. Also there are nice 50/50 acrylic-wool blend yarns that are soft but don't feel as plastic as 100% acrylic yarn. Maybe mohair hat is ok for a 2-3-year old though? These hats weren't for small babies. :)

For leftovers and in time for the holidays, you could try making a little "mini" garland. So like tiny hats, socks and mittens, that you could hang on a wall or mantle

I love that idea! I don't really wear scarves or hats so I have a bunch of yarn scraps that I don't know what to do with....a knit/crochet garland is such a cute idea - thank you!

I love using handdyed yarn for socks, but yeah, the leftovers are annoying!! I usually just combine all the leftovers into an 'ugly on purpose' sock that I wear around the house :)

Drops dk weight superwash reccomendation-Karisma. I have used it a bunch and really enjoy working with it. They have an amazing range of colours (I did a massive colourwork cardigain in it and it went very well), it's 100% wool and very affordable (especially when on sale). It's not super soft, has a little bit of a rustic feel to it. A softer dk weight superwash would be drops merino extra fine

I remember when you made that first piece out of nice yarn and you were just like I get it now! Maybe I should invest in better yarn than red heart! I think it was a green vest? Or grey? I just remember it came out really cute and I was like here we go down the rabbit hole...lol. I think this was before you found color mart! Really great progress and cute finished objects! I def have to give you props for going back to work on old WIPS. I have the outline tank by Jessie Mae still on needles from last summer and its haunting me. As for the scraps left over from making socks or using hand dyed yarns....make more socks! I made three pairs over the summer and they unintentionally came out very well coordinated because I was just trying to use up the yarn. After knitting a project I don't feel like I've finished unless I've used up all the yarn. All the socks I made this summer have matching heel flaps or toes or ribbing with contrast colors added in. Also! making DK socks is also a good way to use up fingering and will be nice and toasty for winter.

@@typicalbliss your channel and knitting have changed so much!! But it’s great to see the evolution of your work and practice and dedication to petite knits! (I totally get and share the obsession.) Crazy Sock Lady has a great KZbin channel and brick and mortar yarn shop dedicated mostly to socks and lately she’s been using scraps and minis to make a granny square blanket which is gorgeous. She also used leftovers as contrast colors in a new sweater with a light grey as the other contrast color. I can’t remember the name of the sweater but it was an FO from her latest episode. Def check out if the idea of socks seems exhausting. I love DPNS too but keep loosing and breaking my wooden ones and it takes me 2x longer to knit anything on DPN vs my 9in chiaogoos. Ugh and the laddering….yeah that many socks might be a lot.

everything is so cute!!! did you use dpns or a short cabled circular needles for the sunday sweater sleeve ribbing? I've found ribbed sleeves so hard to work and bind off with yarn that weight.

I hate working with acrylic because there's already enough plastic on the world as it is. Plus, the feel is just... weird. Winter is coming? Who in the Ned Stark is this?! I thought the night King was dead 🤣 I never thought I'd say this, but you're slowly convincing me to knit a pair of socks. I'm this close of giving in. If I didn't dread small needles so much, I'm sure I'd have knitted 6 pairs already by now 😆
