JannyBeans oh yay congrats on starting your program! How do you like it so far?

So far so good I just finished up my first semester. I found the cognitive assessment class more difficult, but I feel like because I’m a part time student and the class ran until 9:30, by 8pm I was shot and that’s when she’d start teaching the important stuff lol but the program itself is great! I’m feel like I am learning a lot

@@JaniceAnn I can definitely agree that I've learned a lot within one semester. Even in a short amount of time, I feel like I've already acquired tons of skills and knowledge to becoming a great school psych. Maybe it's because it's such a niche field?

Question I’m a high school senior I haven’t started school yet but this school year is really important for I can start applying to college so pls respond do you think that someone like me with a not so good math skills and science skills do you think I can do it. I honestly will study to be better at math science is not that difficult for me but it isn’t easy for me. And I would really enjoy working with kids. I would study and do my best to be able to do this. And how did you pay for this did you have two jobs that help you payed it? Do you still have these jobs or no?
@TiffanyLee5 жыл бұрын
Hello~ I worked for a few years after graduating college (majored in psychology) to figure out what I wanted to do. During those years, I gained a lot of experience in various related fields and saved money for school. I currently do not work at the restaurant but I still work at the private school. I think grad school gives you the flexibility to have a part time job to help pay for bills/tuition

Do you work with students with different diagnosis? Do you diagnosis students in terms of the assessments?
@TiffanyLee4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we work with a wide range of students, including many with disabilities. As a school psychologist, we can identify students into different categories (autism, emotional disability, specific learning disorder, etc) for special education but we cannot formally diagnose them.

How many hours was your practicum in the first year? About to start an EdS program in the fall and trying to figure out what to expect. Thanks for the videos!
@TiffanyLee3 жыл бұрын
I think the expectation was about 8 hours every week (so one full day or two half days) during the semester. Our second semester practicum wasn't measured in hours but the number of cases we completed (5 full cognitive cases in the clinic). Each program is different and some push all of practicum to the second year.
@jocelyncazier28383 жыл бұрын
@@TiffanyLee thanks so much! I know we have a practicum class first semester so that is good to have some idea what to expect.

Hi, I just found your channel and I really like it. Is it okay to ask how old you are? Or maybe give me an estimate of how long it would take me to become a psychologist, like how many years starting from the end of high school. A clinical psychologist. Is it something you would be able to major in while learning something else like writing or do you feel like you have to dedicate, kind of, your life to the profession?
@TiffanyLee4 жыл бұрын
Hey Raki! Typically, clinical psychology programs are PhD or PsyD programs so they are 4-5 years long. If you account for four years of undergrad and five years of grad school, it would take around 9 years after high school to be a practicing psychologist. My program is only 3 years including internship, though, since it's a specialist level, not a PhD

Hi Dina!! During my first semester, I worked around 40 hours a week. It definitely wasn't easy but it's possible!
