I couldnt stop watching this; it was so authentic. There`s something magical about the story. You loved and studied a particular composer which you promoted to anyone who would listen. You demonstrated you were a concert pianist by creating a highly regarded album of the music you loved. Now management, etc. Students seeking a professional career in music can learn a lot from stories like these.

Thank you for this great You-Documentary. It's so cool that your parents took tons of videos in your childhood, and that you continued doing so and share it along with all the deep thoughts. I can't even process all of it yet and will rewatch all of this later. You are a great example for anyone who feels like not fitting in. And you're a great example for a pioneer classical pianist, in an industry that will either change to the direction where you already are, or disappear.

Amazing video. Your love for music is raw, unfiltered and honest. I started following you in 2020 from a random yt recommendation. I quickly felt an interest in what you had to say and what you were trying to achieve as a person. I like most forms of music, but I haven't been a 'classical listener'. This last few weeks have been super stressful (turning into a good thing...), and I have started finding myself using more classical music to help settle me. It isn't hard to find that emotional connection with it if you give it an honest listen. I would attribute me finding that musical connection to you. So yes, at least in one person you have achieved that one goal. i am always grateful for your curiosity and sincere interest in improving the community. Thank you for sharing.

I started playing classical piano 5 years ago, and you were one of the people who helped start my journey. Even to this day I go back to a lot of those old performance videos and vlogs. You are not only an elegant and emotional classical pianist whose sound I can only dream of emulating, but for so many recordings, you are THE pianist for me. So many moments over the years that helped shape who I am. Thank you.

Thank you for opening up your heart. It's the honesty in your music and your words that touches us. Many classical purists don't understand that every concert or cd release is a commercial activity, unless you don't mind playing for an empty concert hall. As a professional musician you need to find a balance between playing the music you like and making a living. I admire the effort you make to create this beautiful music and the respect you show to us (you audience) by presenting it in a way that we can enjoy it.

I watched the whole thing. If anything, it shows you're beyond labels, and you're finally finding a footing to this world. Sometimes, life is really just dull in between, and in those moments, you enter an existentialist phase. What is my purpose? Will my dream still come to fruition? Sometimes, one may even wonder if the proverbial ship has sailed. But you stayed, and that's what matters. It's not just trying to become something, but the very virtue of your existence alone is proof of it. No "KZbinr" minimizing, no reductionism, nothing. You are a pianist, full stop.

It's been quite some time since I last watched one of your videos. Like many other commenters, your humility and honesty have brought me back again and again over the years since just before the pandemic. By the way, I especially enjoyed watching your videos during the pandemic as I found them incredibly grounding for myself. Truly, you're pushing the classical music community, and yourself to keep striving (see what I did there?) to be the best version it can be. Having taken an aesthetics class myself in college, I remember my professor's thesis in that class was that art and philosophy are one in the same in that they aim to describe what it is to be human. Great art pieces meaningfully reflect something about the human experience. Your videos and performances well encapsulates that rich complex experience, and that is why I have bought your signed CD. I will leave on this note: Keep striving, always!

I cannot believe there was ppl ‘refused’ to call you a pianist?? I have been following since, earlier than 2019, which was a difficult time for me when an just started on the journey of striving to be a pianist, and I appreciated so much, when I was totally lost and doubting myself, there’s someone filmed out the journey and life of being a pianist, and I was so grateful that a real pianist like you was willing to do that, which was incredibly helpful to me, to a kid who struggled and lost, finally having a stream of lamplight in the dark way.

What a beautiful story of the journey that brought you to where you are today. This is one of the most uplifting and relatable things I’ve encountered in a long time, maybe ever, and it’s all masterfully told in an hour, which is time truly well spent. I deeply appreciate your decision to open up and be so vulnerable, documenting not only your navigation of the longstanding systemic, institutional, and cultural challenges in your field but also how it relates to your internal struggle to define your identity without confining yourself to restrictive labels. By doing so, despite the immense fortitude it requires, you really succeed at bringing human sensibilities to classical music, fulfilling a mission which you have so passionately dedicated to. I discovered you through your vlogs around July 2020, with one of the first videos I watched being the one featured here, where you're in the woods reflecting on the lessons you learned while taking a break from the piano. I sensed that you weren’t the type of person conforming to the narrow expectations of what it means to be a classical pianist, as you astutely described. Your authenticity as you forged this new path was indeed refreshing to see, a welcome innovation to help keep the art alive. While the fact that each of us is unique may seem mundane, the way you express your uniqueness is genuinely valuable. Amidst the changes and constants over the years, as you pursued your goals in developing both your artistry and yourself as a human being, staying true to who you are is a quality you should always keep. I laud your firmness in standing your ground against following trends for their own sake and in saying no to those who seek to profit from them at your expense. Okay, I may have come across some of your older, viral recital videos from several years ago (my memory is a tad hazy), but I didn’t give much thought to the personality (you) behind the performance back then. I have to admit that even I, an Asian and a lover of classical music since early childhood, may have harbored some of the frustrated, insecure, and prejudiced notions you mentioned here, that young prodigious talents must endure torturous routines under strict authoritarian oversight to reach that skill level. Having tried to play instruments as a child but lacking the grit to carry on, some of those stereotypes were internalized in me as an unhealthy coping mechanism. Your journey though, as you’ve openly shared, has been crucial in helping me dispel those cynical and insecure thoughts. It has not only inspired me to cultivate a more positive, empathetic outlook toward others but has also reignited my desire to play music again. The idea behind your motto, "Be kind. Keep striving," has given me hope and helped me look forward to another day, even when existential thoughts and doubts cloud my sense of self and the direction I’m headed. These are just a few examples of how your work has enriched my life, besides the music itself, of course. You have undoubtedly had a positive impact on many people's lives through the stories you’ve shared, among other things, and it is as real as it gets. You told us this is just the beginning. I am excited to continue following you along your musical odyssey, eager to discover new works and their various aspects from you, as you broaden your horizons in the years and decades to come. PS: Sorry for the long essay. I missed your videos here on KZbin and was really touched by what you brought to us upon your return. Welcome back!

Good music survives, no matter what category it is in. So I call myself a music lover and that helped me a lot. As a music lover, I should thank you for sharing your journey. From the first point I got to know you from Liebestraum, it's been a previlege to follow your thoughts and efforts to humanize, maybe even vitalize classical music world. Schumann's Davidbundlertanze is now my favorite piece of him thanks to you and I'm really enjoying your album. I loved everything about this video ! There's so much I relate to. First of all the lack of appreciation for classical music (especially among people our age), and feeling like an outcast for liking classical music and playing piano. But I feel like it gave you the courage to be "awkward" to be different. In a way, to just truly be yourself ! It was definitely the case for me. I feel like nowadays we can often be met with mockery when we are passionnate about things, especially for non-mainstream interests, so your story is really inspiring. I also agree that the sensationalization of classical piano has kind of saturated the Internet classical space and it's permeated in real life (I swear if I hear one more kid asking me to play Rush E...) By the way I would love to attend one of your concerts one day. I just saw Bruce Liu live last week and it was nothing short of life-changing.

My daughter shared a similar childhood. As an intelligent, sensitive female, she felt very outside as her interest in science, math and music put her out of the 'mainstream.' Fortunately, as the harpist in the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, she found some other people with similar backgrounds, but, it wasn't until she arrived at Harvard that she met 'other people just like me!" Now, as a fully integrated adult she is a practicing physician and continues to play the harp on a very high level. "Classical" music is....elitist music that requires concentration, intelligence and sensitivity that popular music doesn't often offer. It's protein and vitamins, not sugar! I am so glad, Tiffany, that you are sharing your thoughts. BTW, the Cleveland is not only more and more female, but many of the fine musicians are Asian...not abused by tiger moms either!

What a wonderful documentary about your journey to now. I have been following you since your early days. For your followers and people who attend your concerts based on your vlogs, I would say you brought more people into the classical world - more than would have normally be following classical. BUT. I do see what you are saying - in the professional world of classical, you explain it very well the dichotomy of them wondering how serious you were. You have achieved much and I applaud you. Few of us would ever know what it is like to achieve this and has been so great to folllow you and experience it through you. Selfishly, I would want you to continue with vlogging - or maybe at least the get ready with me ones. If it interferes with your career then... understand. On the other side of the same coin, you might want to watch some of the interviews with Andre Rieu (who I have followed for years and love him) where he is opposite. He was raised in the serious classical world and broke away to just play the music that brings him joy, and through that, he has an immense audience. He has received sharp criticism from the serious classical world for deviating and was disowned by his own family over that choice. Like him - whichever brings you the most joy is what you must pursue.

So good to see that you have overcome the more difficult times. As in other fields of art you can watch how the artistic standards are not understood by some of those who are in powerful positions. E.g. label managers or publishers and editors. Those people tend to put their potential clients into boxes. When you are an excellent pianist they see only the KZbinr. Tnankfully we can now look forward to your second album. I'll be very keen to see the Grand Rapids program. Some Chopin or Ravel would be my guess. But you'll probably surprise me. And of course I am excited about your still unknown tour stations of 25. I keep my fingers crossed for Berlin or somwhere around.

@@rinardman So do I and only an utter fool would think she is not. But her career path is being blocked and that is the excuse they are using. She is a KZbin populist, a no-no in that world where you must kneel to the powers that be. There must be a major orchestra conductor out their who is daring enough to invite her to perform a concerto. That would help to open things up for her. Tiffany isn't the only one hitting that wall and complaining about it. Just go around the wall.

Actually, there's no wall anymore because I now have Askonas Holt, the elite classical management that I was reacting to at the end of this documentary. I'm on the same artist roster as the most renowned classical musicians I've looked up to since I was young.

Thank you for this condensed view of your life so far. I have been watching for about 5 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed your piano playing. One of my favorite pieces you play so well is Mendelssohn's Rondo Cappricioso. My piano teacher had me practice it when I was a teenager and I still love it!! I especially love your way of playing it and find it very inspiring.

seeing people who've been playing music all their life makes me sad realizing I gave up on guitar when I was 15 and now 10 years later I'm chasing that dragon again. I'm glad to see Tiffany thriving at this, I hope I get to a point where I enjoy what I do as much as she does man all the wasted time but I'm excited, music is such a big part of all our lives and I encourage everyone to give any instrument a shot. I tried piano before but I don't think my sausage fingers will do em justice lol

We need to generalize, it is how we manage infinite data, but it can get very lazy. 23:31 Classical music is now just one of many approaches to music, and one of many general stories (with many sub-stories). That is why Eric Satie's Gymnopédie #1 is so beloved (at least the opening), and it is a stick figure as far as music goes... 35:50 By 'trend' you mean the current concert repertoire... 36:34 How little things change at the core... 37:02 Your Yoko Ono look... I had a recent poem read on a podcast, and the two hosts then discussed what they drew from it, and it was surprising, and neither comprehended much of it, because, I think, most of the words (ideas) did not relate to anything that they experienced in life... 51:12 Self-releasing gets any art nowhere, not just music... 53:07 The pinnacle is being the go-to artist for a composer... though, given reverse psychology, if you strive for it, it won't happen... (with me, if I even imagine it, it is cursed and will never happen!) 59:24 The date makes me think that you've gone through a lot over the past five years, and changed (grown) a lot... 1:00:07 Good goal. Nice it it happens overnight, but... it may be a long endeavor... 1:01:33 "We are such things as dreams are made of..." (Shakespeare) Bonus: As for the comment 'you used to be cute', yes, you are maturing, which means becoming more 'handsome' than 'cute', more 'respectable', 'noble', even, and you will attract a more mature audience (the horror!), at least more mature than those who just want to suck up your cuteness (and the cuteness of kittens, the poor things -- having their cuteness sucked out of them by cuteness vampires) ("Hold still, I vant to suck your cuteness..."), and we all have to move on from cuteness sooner or later (thank goodness -- it is like a diet of only cotton candy). That said, it is also your smile that people like to imbibe, since happiness is rare in this world. It is good to witness...

at 50:03 she looks just like Clara Haskil - how she used to sit at the piano (see Michael Garady's sketches). She was my friend/teacher Peter Feuchtwanger's teacher. Her teacher was Descombes. His teacher was Chopin. Tiffany does the best PC1 slow movement on YT, amongst so many other of her great performances of various composers. Undoubtedly the best female pianist today.

I didn't get emotional watching this. No, no, I really didn't. Why would I get emotional after 5+ years of following Tiffany, and supporting her on Patreon, and feeling like she would be the perfect grandaughter if I were to have a grandaughter, and knowing the time would come when she would get the recognition I knew she deserved, and had earned by her hard work and dedication, and pursuing her dream, and inspiring me to write the longest sentence I have ever written in my life without a doubt. And after all that I've been designated a "Super Tiffan" by Tiffany herself! So I got that goin' for me. 😎

The fact that so many bitter and jealous people online were writing Tiffany off as an influencer is just horrible. I've witnessed the same with Annique from Heartofthekeys. These people seem to have some stupid logic that if you make the effort to digitally interact and connect with your audience via social media, show behind the scenes of your practice etc. then that somewhat degrades your ability/seriousness as a classical pianist...

All I knew you for up until this exact point in time was you had the only interpretation of Mozart's rondo in D (k485) on youtube whose interpretation I didn't dislike (the amount of overpedaling so many people do...) Amazing documentary though and congrats on the album! Very interesting to hear as someone who grew up with piano but on a more surface level and is going more in a composer/music producer direction! I can really relate to the feeling of alienation due to your music taste. Keep up the good work :)

A long journey with the correct educational encouragement from the outset. 😎 I grew to love Camille Claudel in much the same way as you do Schumann. She developed 'The Kiss' before Rodin. Have a good or evil festive celebration Tiff P. 🎉👍🌺
