Arsenal came so close to winning the Premier League in 2022/23. They came so close thanks to some big money transfers. They have followed that up by spending big again heading into the 2023/24 season. They have Champions League money to look forward to, and a bigger share of TV revenue.
But can they justify their spending?
Phil Buckingham explains. Marco Bevilacqua illustrates.

One of the key things has been, as was mentioned here, they have kept their payroll way lower (over 100 million below chelsea, Utd, & City) than the other richest clubs in the prem. Another bonus to their shift in 2020 to buying players mostly 23 amd under.

Honestly, that is quite an easy question to answer. They are in the EPL, which means they instantly have 100 mil to spend each year. And now they finished 2nd which means they get a load of money from participating in the Champions League as well. That together with the fact that Arsenal are one of the 6 biggest clubs in England means they don't have a lot of issues spending that kind of money right now.

Arsenal have done a great job over the past couple of years but the next few will be vital. They are now mixing with the top teams again and are starting to pay top wages to many of their players. They still have some expensive contracts to renew over the next few years to avoid losing players like Odegaard. Good to have Arseanl back at the top table though especially with the brand of football they are playing.

Forgot to mention Arsenal have signed a £12 Million pound deal with Amazon for the "All or Nothing" documentary which was due for payment in May 2023 and a new commercial deal with "Prime" energy drink which is valued at £15 Million to the club over the course of the next 3 years. They're financially stable so it makes sense for them to be able to pull of huge transfer fees which in essence are actually paid in installments and not in 1 go. Also Vinai and Josh recently explained in a video that their interests payments on outstanding loans has been at the lowest levels since 2001 that adds another factor. Not an Arsenal fan or a football fan for that matter but just providing scope as a FO crunching numbers on a regular basis in my day job.

Say what you want about Stan Kroenke he knows how to handle massive sums of money. Also, his wife is a Walton (family who owns Wal-Mart) so he doesn't have to worry. Also, we have to thank Wenger for his financial genius. Arsenal did struggle for a while but they bought the Emirates Stadium outright and own no debt on it. Their Stadium is pure profit and with the run last season, fans will sell out every match this season from the FA Cup to the CL so Arsenal will be fine. I can't wait for this season and see how they do.

The abuse from fans is unnecessary. They do not know better than the people who run the club. Arsenal is now a well-run club, thanks to the restructuring that took place after Kroenke acquired 100% ownership. It was clear that Arsenal was determined to return to elite level when they appointed Arteta as manager. Just because it didn't happen overnight (as many fans were losing their patience) doesn't mean there was no plan. We are in good hands.

I stuck by Wenger all those years even when our fans ungratefully shooed the man out of the club like a dirty stray cat. It was disgusting behaviour, something I'll never be proud of witnessing as a gooner. The man dedicated and devoted his life and even sacrificed his marriage for the club. People still don't understand the significance of finishing 4th each season for our club in a period where we were financially crippled by the stadium debt. Just making it to CL each season, was a fine feat, in which Wenger achieved 18yrs straight (only 2nd to Real Madrid at the time), on a shoe-string budget, against oil lottery teams in Chelsea and Man City. Even then Utd were still spending big and so were Liverpool. Fans screamed "4th isn't a trophy" without giving Wenger any credit for his vast achievements to be there every season. He did it against all odds, even after selling our best players to City and Utd. It is this consistency that saw us through tough times and all those 4th place finishes set the foundation we stand tall on today. Wenger will always be a special manager in our club history and imo is still one of the best managers to ever grace the game. I always imagine what Wenger could have done with the money we have today. I see the same thing in Arteta. Wenger always said Arteta would make a great coach one day. He was definitely right. Arteta is on the verge of winning major trophies. I'm confident we'll be dominating the EPL in the next few years and continue competing with Europe's top teams. I will celebrate our future trophies with Arteta and the team, but I will never forget and will always celebrate Arsene Wenger!

This feels like a joke not gonna lie. Arsenal didn't play in champions league for half a decade, but still can spend more than bayern munich, one of the most successful clubs and one of the best managed clubs in the world. There is way too much money in the premier league, and we will loose european competition like this. I know premier league fans don't want to hear this, but we need strong contenders outside of england as well to keep this sport interesting, to keep foreign markets, to keep foreign players to be developed. I unfortunately can't see this happen, the gap is widening too much. But props to Arsenal. They did a great job recovering from a low point. Holding on to Arteta was the best decision you could make!

@@TheSantuary-r2r I get that but arsenal didn't win anything and came second. That should be like 150+ mil and then you won't be getting anymore money this season for new kits/merchandise that will be next year. Player sales are spread over years, and like I said arsenal only make about half of what the big 3 do. Arsenal can't really make anymore this season than they currently are, until they win something and get far in CL.
@jc6087
@jc6087 Жыл бұрын
@@WeeleyTube Arsenal fill a 60k+ capacity stadium every week, there's a 25 year wait for a season ticket. More Londoners support Arsenal than any other London club FACTS. We charge big ticket prices because there's demand for them, your clubs sell em cheap and still can't get rid of them all 😅Chelsea's entire fanbase is foreign based fans and tourists, go to Stamford bridge on matchday and it's all Chinese tourists. The only people that support Tottenham live in that borough you won't find them anywhere else. West Hams entire fanbase is in Essex because the whole of East London is populated by Asians even the road signs are written in Urdu and none of those guys support west ham at all. All the other London clubs have tiny fanbases based almost exclusively in their immediate area/borough. Liverpool is a one city team that's why they fill Anfeld, Everton are a joke they share a club shop with Liverpool because they can't afford their own, their stadium is less than 400yds away from Liverpool's and they struggle to reach their 39k capacity 😅 Similarly Manchester is a one club City, Man Utd max capacity old Trafford every home game, go watch Man city games and the stadiums half empty because nobody in Manchester really supports "Citeh" they're a championship team with champions league money. Man Utd make all their money off merch in Asia and the U.S. Man City don't make money from tickets and shirts because they've got no fans, their owner illegally pumps money into the club via third parties and calls it "Revenue"... That's why they're facing over 100 charges of cheating. Arsenal is the ONLY club in the top six that runs self-sufficiently 🤣 For example our annual wage budget is £70m Less than Man City's, £40m Less than Chelsea's, £15m Less than Liverpool's. Another Example is shirt sales... For 22/23 both shirts are same price: Man city £37m Arsenal £78m Like I said, City have no real fans. Arsenal earn our money the right way through our fanbase, we don't cheat like the others.
