Dear viewers. Tig welding .065 stainless tubing for my sailboat railing, Davits and hard top. I found purging made my welds less grey and more silver with some pink and blues. I’m running 60 amps 3/32 tung, #10 cup and 1/8 filler. I got some .045 wire and #12 cup on the way. I got 6 grand in materials and tools into this project with the roller , bender , welder, buffing supplies, and tubing. Got it all bent and mocked up, Now it’s showtime haha. Thanks for the videos! Still trying to conceive how Jody can tig .065 at 100 amps. Master Jody.

I started stick welding 45 years ago, then learned MIG that was an easy transition but my TIG welding SUCKS. I don't think everyone learning to TIG is cut out for this. But Jodi must TIG weld in his sleep to, because his results look flawless. Kudos to you for devoting your time in an effort to teach us dummies to learn TIG.:)

KZbin shouldn’t even have an option for idiots to choose “unlike” the information is free for God’s sake. Do you see that little “v” at the top left corner, hit that instead of “unlike”. Those individuals are upset that they can’t use an app to lay beads. Thanks for all the hours it takes to figure out your lighting for the videos, the hours of recording, the hours of editing, then literally giving all of it to us for free. Keep up the amazing work. I just got me an ahp 201, I’m so lost with what accessories to get, it comes with a 17 rotoflex torch with a 9 head as well. I’d like to get some of the glass or larger cups but not for sure what I need. I don’t want to buy unnecessary parts for it , cause that money can go to filler and coupons. It’d be awesome if you could do a video just on torch parts, you know, you need this for that, if you have this then you don’t need that type of deal. Love your videos!

ALWAYS enjoy ur vids. Particularly the SS ones. One tip we use at work We use 95/5 argon /hydrogen on the torch. Straight Argon on ID purge This helps greatly for penetration on fusion welds on Sanitary:hygienic welds especially when u may have high sulphur content

10:17 & onward is a valuable lesson. What i have the most difficulty with is getting a puddle started and managing to turn the heat down quick enough & get moving without sugaring the backside. It's also hard to get a nice "wet" puddle with stainless steel . The puddle tends to ball up / solidify if I back off on the heat too much. Sticky filler ain't fun ! This one is a re-watcher. Thank you :)

Just as an FYI: I noticed your tungsten point is very short and stubby. When running DC, you are able to weld thicker steel at a lower amperage & have finer control of the arc and puddle if you shape your tungsten point a little longer. Maybe 5/8" to 3/4" back and then down to a fine point. An aerospace weldor showed me that and I've been sold ever since.

Hi Jody, my company has a product that requires a t pipe joint just like here. The difference is that the weld is required to be full penetration ( full 3mm wall thickness) due to corrosion and fatigue reasons. If you still have this pipe, could you make a video showing the fit up and weld to get full penetration with this pipe? Our supplier seems to be struggling with this.

Metallurgical questions surrounding stainless. Did some socket welds for some refrigeration piping a while back. Used 309L-16 SMAW for 304 pipe to carbon steel/low alloy valves and couplings. All 304 to 304 done with 308L-16. I had to weld on some threaded 316 nipples as well and I couldn’t really decide which rod to go with so I used 308L-16. Metallurgically what should I usefor SMAW/GTAW welding 304 to 316 stainless? Appreciate any feedback Jody!

Another thing I forgot to add. This was for ammonia refrigeration piping. Is stainless pipe the best bet as far as corrosion resistance or will it deplete certain alloys in stainless?

I thought the rule of thumb was 1A/thou so why do you back off to 90 thou when you get the weld pool started as the tube thickness is 120 thou. ? What do you recommend for Amps. Is it because you are moving a bit slow that you reduce the Amps etc etc Please explain. Thanks Mike

You say that you set the gas at about 20 at the regulator. I did that and checked the gas flow. My flow is 20 at the regulator and about 14 at the torch. So, which is correct? Should I be 20 at the torch?

“Sugaring”... so we saw on the plate that you got sugaring. Also..on the inside of the pipe there wasn’t any sugaring. I assume because of the amperage used. What about on the inside of the other pipe where we might’ve seen some heat affected area? Might there have been some sugaring in there?

To control warpage stainless is the only steel you can hit w water and yes most people dont know this and freak when you try and tell them. I weld big tank vessels that hold water,etc., and was taught years ago this trick. Scientists years ago at a seminar was teaching this and thats how i learned from a contractor. Now not sure about anything other than 316ss,etc. Again alot of people might freak w me saying this but its been proven and i do it daily and man does it help...

How do you keep your tungsten so clean and sharp,after only a minute or two my tungsten looks a little black/discolored and not quite as sharp as when I started
@jaredc57895 жыл бұрын
My guess would be whatever you're grinding your tungsten with 😋 I've heard the diamond coated wheels are the best but I just use a regular grinding wheel on a bench grinder. I make sure to only grind tungsten with it. Also I've noticed it helps to break off a bit of tungsten to get a fresh part before you regrind it because sometimes if you stick your tungsten whatever you're welding will stick to your tungsten and if you try to grind it off it will contaminate your grinding wheel.
