This week’s PNC Championship will see Tiger Woods return to action for the first time since the PNC Championship last year. The unique event, previously called the Father/Son Challenge, will see a host of PGA TOUR and Champions Tour players compete alongside their children and parents over 36 holes, in a bid to win the Willie Park trophy. Last year’s victors, Justin and father Mike Thomas return to the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, hoping to become the first back-to-back winners since Larry and Drew Nelson in 2008. After finishing seventh in last year’s event Tiger Woods and his son Charlie, now 12 years old, will be looking to once again challenge for the title. Other duos to look out for this weekend include Jim Furyk and son Tanner, Nick Faldo and son Matthew and Olympic Gold medalist and 2021 Women’s PGA Championship winner, Nelly Korda alongside her father Petr. In order to be eligible, participants must have either won a major championship or THE PLAYERS Championship. The competition adopts a scramble format, in which each player in the pairing tees off, with both participants then playing each subsequent shot from within a club length of where the best shot of the two lands.

I wonder what Charlie’s handicap is. Tiger was a 2 at age 11 and a scratch at age 13. Charlie is 12 years old right now. He seems to be totally following in Tiger’s footsteps. He still looks like a small kid and Tiger always said he was a tiny kid competing against bigger kids his entire life. Then Tiger got taller once he got to be like 15, 16, or 17, but he was thin as a rail. You can even go back to when he when he won the Masters at 21 and he was super thin, but I think he got a lot of his distance from when he got taller and gained speed from that. I don’t see any way how Charlie will stay short. I think Tiger is at least 6 ft tall and Elin Nordegren is like 5 ft 11.

I think Tiger is 6ft 2". I'd be surprised if he isn't (Charlie) lower than around a 5 handicap. But that's just sheer guessing I really have no idea he may well be lower than that. He definitely seems to have all the shots and feel/touch from what we all saw from last year's PNC. But one thing is for sure - he looks extremely zippy through the ball for his age. And no doubt in another 4-5 years he'll have that explosive speed through impact like his father had. But he's learnt from the best ever and he'll probably be on the PGA tour by the age of 20 more than likely.

That kid sure does hit it pure. I'm sure he will be on the tour someday. I just hope the bar isn't what his dad accomplished. Tiger had no childhood. From 3 years old till pro, it was golf and only golf. It created the most dominate athlete we have ever seen, but at the cost of his mental health. Tiger isn't going to do that to his son.

Note both Tiger and his son has a trail foot heel away at the finish of their swing. They do not do this deliberately it just means perfect synchronization of their upper and lower body as they are swinging at the end of their swing. Bravo!

Biggest takeaway for me is Charlie’s hands size. You can’t teach that and he has the ability to manipulate the club so early on…most good players have incredible hands and lower arm strength and he’s no different. Amazing player for his age of course! Good luck to you both!

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I had no idea he was ready to do any sort of competitive golf. I knew he wasn’t ready for the main events, but any competitive golf at all is simply amazing. I knew he could hit the ball. Just not to the point of doing this father son tournament.

Wouldn’t it be cool if Charlie Woods became as good as Ken Griffey Jr? Kind of like Ken Griffey Sr passing the torch along, except it’s from Tiger to Charlie? Now, I’m not saying Griffey Sr was as great as Tiger. Don’t get me wrong. But still, it would be cool to see Charlie have as great or even a better career than Tiger’s. But what I hope for first is that Tiger gets at least one more tournament win. I prefer him to break the majors record. But I don’t see much of a chance in that. I do however see him having a chance to get tournament win 83. Wouldn’t that be great to see in the next few years:)

Yeah good point. I kind of liken it to Secretariat. He was considered to be like a freak of nature and retired after winning the 1973 Triple Crown and was put out to stud. People were expecting him to produce like “Secretariat Jr.”, but that just didn’t happen. He produced a lot of horses, but he really only produced one horse named Risen Star who won the 1988 Preakness and 1988 Belmont, but that horse wasn’t even close to his greatness. Secretariat was generational athlete, just like Tiger Woods.
