Come and join me as I discover a location I've never visited before, but massively disappointed!
So what's the backstory behind this video?
Well, I’m a Landscape photographer, based in the UK, searching for interesting locations, mainly around the UK, but also travelling further afield. I endeavour to make all of my videos as interesting as possible, with editing skills I've picked up over the years, also with adding music to match the mood of the locations and images. Using a basic set up, consisting of my DJI Osmo Action, my Mavic Pro Drone (although not all the time) and either my trusty Nikon D850 or my Nikon D7200 cameras, for the images.
I always show my images, no matter how unhappy I am with them, I think you as the viewer deserve to see the good along with the bad, after all, if it’s on the video, you've already seen behind the scenes.
So sit back, grab a coffee or a tea, relax and enjoy my slightly unprofessional, sometimes comical, but always crammed with passion video.
Don’t forget to Like, Subscribe and leave a comment, they always let me know that creating this material is being watched and appreciated.

What a shame about the litter, despite this you’ve made it look a beautiful place! Some fabulous images, I especially love the leaf and grass close ups, it’s amazing what you manage to capture! Xxx

It totally amazes me how people just leave their rubbish when there out in the woods. Really enjoyed the vlog Ben and the images looked really good, I especially liked the amount of motion you had in the water, it looked great 👍

I have experienced similar human dumping in the peak district it is so annoying. You took some great shots there despite the pollution, and your camera captures stunning detail in the rocks and water textures.

Superb shots Ben despite the awful litter. I went before Covid and it was nowhere near as bad as that. It reminded me of some of the mess left in the Peaks after lockdown, just disgraceful. I was always told by my parents ‘if you can’t find a bin, bring your litter home’. Lots of potential at Rivington, but even the walk to Rivington Pike is tired and tatty.

Thank you so much, really appreciated. yeah I was told the same by my parents, I guess it's all about respect for the areas, and leaving it nice for other people to enjoy. Thanks again and all the best.

Hi Ben a great video from a challenging location due to the amount of rubbish. I am always amazed by some peoples indifference and disrespect to the countryside around them. A great set of images and I especially liked the black and white ones. 👍

Went about 1 month ago and agree with you, however I see one reason, it seems to be on the edge of a housing estate, so maybe a place for local youngsters to visit on a night

Yeah possibly, whoever it is, they should be ashamed. I can imagine there are a few parties there at night

A key thing you have missed here is that where you were walking was the site of a huge old bleachwork. I think it was called Knoll's. Demolished back in 1850. It existed on each side of the river around about where the waterfalls are. Traces of it have almost been completely deleted. Hope this gives a different take on things.

And I believe there was an illegal watering hole (assume this means a pub) on the site, with tigers statues outside, hence the name. Also there was an underground place somewhere around. I've seen images taken from 2011 online. I'm not sure where it is/was exactly. And always wondered if it was still around to visit. Unable to find as of yet.

About a 10 minutes walk from my house Ben, no way would I venture around there in the dark, no matter what lights I have on. My nemesis that place, first time I went we had the dog with me, she passed away the next day then next time I was on the left as you first come down the steps and as my bag slid down the embankment on wet leaves I went with it, full kit knackered. Two cameras and 4 lenses ruined. Kids have no respect around here mate, you should see the local park and Astro turf, they just throw rubbish everywhere, even though there’s about 5 bins in the park, well, maybe 4 now as one has been thrown in to the stream. There’s a local volunteer clean up crew but there’s only so much they can do. The field you show yourself walking past with the cottage on your right, would you believe that will soon be houses thanks to Bolton Council for giving the planning permission. At least you managed to get a few nice images Ben, much better after rain though as with all falls. You can get to it from the other side too next to Rivington and Blackrod High School and kids cut through on their way home. Personally I think you should show the amount of litter mate, hopefully shame people into taking it home or for the council to clean it up. Thanks for giving me ideas on different compositions, I tend to struggle when it comes to shooting the smaller aspects of a location like the trees or leaves, there are a few other locations around too like Lead Mines Clough, Tom O’Neil has a few in his Waterfalls of England book. I don’t think you were hard enough about the litter mate, there’s no respect, kids just don’t care these days, yes kids drop litter but last time I was there they’d had a small fire ( this was about a year after the moorland fires ) and there must have been a full 24 pack of empty lager cans left there, would you believe they had actually neatly piled the majority of them in one place but others were just thrown in the river. Just after lockdown ended I think it was, Mali Davies was in the Lake District and was nearly in tears with the amount of litter that had been left around but here they are doing it on their own doorsteps, the worst thing about it is it’s not a surprise at all.

I can imagine new houses there are not going to improve the situation. It's such a shame. I've heard of a lot of people damaging gear there, I'm not a superstitious person, but there is a lot that happens there. Yeah I didn't want to dwell too much on the little but it was awful, it's such a shame. I took some away with me too, but realised there are no bins, at least where I could see, so ended up in Bolton before I could dispose of it correctly. Thank you so much Brian for watching, really appreciated and all the best mate.

@@BenMcDonaldPhotography Same to you, when I get my tripod exchanged, well I’m being given one to use off Tom O’Neil in between, I’ll get over to the new bridge (Widnes) hopefully, really want some night shots though but no idea where to go. Any tips always appreciated

Blame lockdown for it I'm afraid, I live in the area and the influx of people was unbelievable. I say blame lockdown but there is still no excuse for the leaving of rubbish and leftover tents ect. These people are not wanted do not come to or visit the outdoors .
