That is the just the coolest of cars!! What a marvellous job he made of that!

The builder does what they used to do in the 1930’s. Builds cars, races them. Rebuilds aircraft and flys them, he even builds the finest yachts and sails them! A real cool guy. Thanks for your comment, Mike

The car is as beautiful as the incredible sound coming out the engine that is music to the ears! Everything is so well balanced on this special, simply delightful. I love the engine rev to the speed of the car, it goes like an electric car with with so much bottom end torque!

Must have been quite a technical challenge. I think this must be either based on a Gypsy Moth engine or an inverted Tiger Moth engine modified to make it run with the crank at the bottom . Either way it must be a task keeping an inline air cooled engine supplied with enough cooling air at low speeds.
@AirflowNZ3 жыл бұрын
The builder used an inverted Tiger Moth engine with cooling obtained with a fan from a Porche Mike

Interesting car. Were there any particular problems involved in turning the engine upside down to non-inverted?
@AirflowNZ6 жыл бұрын
promerops - How big a list do you want! Info not on Google and many of the problems Rob encounter are best forgotten! Lets just say you just have to put an oil pump in the sump which not can have an oil level that can be measured! cheers, Mike - AirflowNZ

Bloody kiwis.. despite being at the edge of the world they are both inventive and tenacious. They do very clever work and they never brag about it. Quiet achievers and damn smart . Richard Pearse is a good example.. of course most people have no idea who he is and history has mostly ignored his work. And this is coming from an Australian.

Love it. Good inverted engine! How is it mounted in your car?
@mikemillett19406 жыл бұрын
Craig, now the cylinders are facing upwards and not down, special engine mounts were fabricated by Rob the builder. The car was built by the owner who is a friend of my son. Rob has rebuilt a Tiger Moth which features in one of my other videos, it;s the black fuselage one. Cheers, Mike - AirflowNZ

Why use an aero engine, rather than a Ford Duratec or a current bike engine?
@nzsaltflatsracer80548 жыл бұрын
This was a joke right?
@chrishenniker59448 жыл бұрын
NZ Salt Flats Racer Well, I'm actually quite curious. If I was building something like this, I'd use something like a Ford Duratec , Vauxhall 16-Valve, Ford Flathead, or a period twin cam.
@59n1tr0n727 жыл бұрын
He probably did it for a) period and theme correctness, b) it's what he had, and c) because there are few things cooler than near-bottomless torque from an aero engine :D I also love the aesthetic of the engine spilling out from the bonnet, much cooler than any Duratec or flathead to me (and I LOVE flatheads)
@amundbjerve7 жыл бұрын
He used an aero engine instead of a Duratec engine for the same reason you don't serve frozen pizza in a wedding; driving it is supposed to be a special occasion!
