Try feeding them in the corral for a month before weaning day. Arkansas Po Producers do it like that.

yep, I had to work mine alone a lot and I'd just bring em all in with cubes a few times a month, so they got used to going in working corrals.

I have a small herd that I manage solo. At 67 it can present some challenges. I herd the cows and the bull with a $30 tapered. Not to shock them with, but the noxious noise is a game changer.

I think they follow a feed bucket or sack easier then they drive. Just one way to do it. They always know when a trap is set. Good to have "swinging" gates vs "draggin" gates at a pen.

Tiger Stripes are excellent mothers but half ass crazy when you corral them.

What an impressive herd! Your calves are so healthy, chunky and ready to go! That’s a lot of ground work to get them all separated. Those are some gnarly cows for sure, wouldn’t be standing in front of them any time soon. Lol I like your corral set up, it’s good and sturdy. Thanks so much for sharing. Take care, be safe. 🇨🇦

Definitely enjoy the videos, don't care to sort to many stripes. But have to do it some times. Just wondering, how is the wire attached to the pipes on your corral. I assume you weren't able to weld it, but was curious. I need to make a fairly good size gathering trap and your set-up intrigues me. Thanks and God Bless
@TheFarmGuy
@TheFarmGuy 2 жыл бұрын
They are indeed welded on there. We added the heavy panel wire later on. It was just pipe and cable in spots with with some thinner gauge wiring. Can’t be having that with how rowdy they get lol.

Your on a hiding to nothing once they know they can get around you. Couple good kelpie dogs would save you from doing all that running. Nice batch of calves though. I would be culling a few of those “difficult” ones, would make your life a lot easier and losing those couple most of the others would probably settle a fair bit easier. Good on you for having a crack though, easy to knock others and you look to have a fair wing of cattle👍🏼👍🏼 so you probably been doing it a while.

I understand the allure of the tiger stripes, but gentle cattle are so much more enjoyable to manage. I wouldn’t blame you for putting them in a freezer and moving to some other breed thats much easier to handle. Too many people get hurt by wild cows. It’s not worth it. You do have a beautiful herd. Just not one I’d want to mess with. At 62, I wouldn’t even consider cattle like that. Best wishes. I honor you as ranchers. I hope that none of you get trampled by those big tigers.
