Tiger names are not encouraged by the forest department throughout India. The department's way of identifying is numbers like T-120 etc. However people involved in the forests like naturalist, guides, safari drivers, and nature lovers who frequent the forests, name them based on their behaviors. A tigress who likes to climb tree (which is not a natural behavior) becomes a pade wali, to fat bellied becomes Matkasur. These names becomes famous amongst tourists and the people working around the park. These names are not given by the forest department. Some parks with better tiger population and sighting gets more visitors, and hence those names become famous. My explanation might not be accurate, but a widely accepted view. Hope that helps.

I believe animals k name hona chaiye. Bcoz isse common public ko specific animal ka behavior/food pattern, individual habits k baare me jankari milegi. Animals will be like a star. This will create curiosity & excitement in people. it will enhance tourism and overall wildlife will be safe.

I am from Nagpur, recently, I was in Pench and Bor wildlife a few months back, guide over there they told me that it becomes easier to communicate if they provide the nickname. The nickname like Katrina which was given to one of the tigress at Bor wildlife was given due to its elegant walk. They say that chhota matka at tadoba has been given because thay tiger is not tall much however it is stout and rounded like a matka. They say when they provide nickname, it becomes easier for them to communicate amongst the guides to easily identify the tigers on the basis of their nicknames. It becomes easier for guides to talk about a tiger to the tourist cz of nicknames. T4 or T24 really becomes difficult for them to tell the tourist that which tiger it is. I think nicknaming a tiger is good. Day after tomorrow I am visiting a grassland safari in Pune (kadbanwadi) for wolf, hyena and foxes. If you have knowledge on these animals request you to make a video on that. It is the fisrt time i will be going for a safari specifically for indian wolf.
