Thika na Lela, I love it, can't get old. Reminds me of a grand dance at St Mary Lacor. Life was at its peak. It also reminds me of a colleague who used to say, Kill life before life kills you. What lovely and beautifully played music with slow step gentle dance-Shika Shika oyeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

This is most of the song. i bought it used in Kenya in 1983 and, as you can hear, it is fried. The missing part is unlistenable which is why i requested someone else post the whole thing. You can hear the flip to side B at 3'04. Moreno, Lovy & Jimmy Monimambo are all dead. Three of the surviving band members live in Minneapolis, Ontario and Japan.

This song, reminds me of my anxiety while waiting for my k.c.e.results which were released by the late minister for higher education j.j kamotho the music was realeased one week earlier before our 1980 kce results and I was also a master of history geography English and literature in English but a donkey in mathematics. In short my English teacher Mr mungai called me master of cartography

Next time you visit Nairobi, check with MELODICA MUSIC STORE on Tom Mboya street - Interfina Hse, near Gill House. They have all 70's & 80's music. Perhaps the guy who you were told works at Hurlingham could be Bwamy Walumona (Mangelepa original) who has since gone into Church music and works at Africa Leadership University (also called Nairobi International school of Theology). The institution is behind Nairobi Women's Hospital. Bwamy has worked and lived with all these lingala guys.

The only problem is that Melodica uses simple cassette recorders and the so the audio quality of many of their tape and CD products are wanting. I really don't understand what they did with their recording studio and the equipment they had where great works emerged from: e.g. Bana Ngenge, Les Kinois etc. This is what happens when inheritance sometimes passes to people without the vision and commitment of the founders. Mzee Dawoodia was remembered by Samba Mapangala in a song which is not in circulation today. Could the Melodica owners please re-release it??

Just an edit comment, the right name for the title translated in English is 'I must cry', and not 'Go away and cry' as appears above. However, as I have commented on some of these songs, let's all work toward coming up with some kind of an association to help our artistes, the living or their descendants, of whom we have immensely benefited from in the name of 'free' music! I may not have anything of the sort soon, but it's alive somewhere in the back of my mind ...

I am really really glad that you uploaded "Tika Na Lela" Been searching for this song for over 10 years. Even flew into Nairobi from US to search but nothing showed up in the Nairobi music studios. Was told one of the original singers of the song lives in Harlingham , but could not trace him. Request is can you please upload part 1 of this song because unless there are two versions to this song what is uploaded here is part 2.

that's "Wake za watu" by Moreno on his EVERLASTING MEMORIES cassette, also on LP "It's My Discothek Vol 2" (POLP 547)
