@@ghagzor probably bc the guy called and bitched and I bet he got all kinds of free shit bc that’s what happens to Karens and that’s why they keep being assholes to everyone to get their way. Even male Karens. Totally happened to me when I was 18 working at TGI Fridays in the mall here, and this super bitch threw a fit and even threw food at me all bc she had to wait 30 min for a table for a party of ten on Christmas Eve, and then bc when the check came she thought I would beg my manager to comp the entire bill just bc there was a half hour wait, and I said since they didn’t have complaints about the food or the service I wouldn’t be able to do that, she threw a huge tantrum and stormed out without paying dragging her 5 kids and pussy husband and lil grandma who was apologizing and Karen told her SHUTUP MOM!!!! then I got in trouble for letting them leave without paying. And then I got in more trouble bc they called corporate and complained and ended up getting $100 gift card, so I quit when my manager wanted to come at me for the situation when the worst thing that happened in their entire meal was “they had to wait an entire half hour…. And the tea wasn’t sweet enough” according to the complaint she filed against me. (There’s always sugar on the table). This was almost 20 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday even tho that was far from the worst customer service thing I’ve had to deal with it was the most laughable.

It's the toxic customer service culture at these kind of jobs. The corporations have a policy of ALWAYS siding with the customer no matter what they do. "tHe cuStomEr is alwAys riGhT". I have seen these businesses side with customers and even no customers passing through who have assaulted their employees. They literally threaten to fire employees if they won't just take the abuse or try to call the cops on the unruly customers. That whole "customer is always right" and management always siding with customers no matter what is the reason why people don't stay at these jobs, never mind the low wages.

I work at a hotel. Pro tip: Avoid 3rd party sites when making reservations. Sure, you can get a great deal, but if there is any problem with the reservation, that 3rd party site is who you have to contact to make changes and\or fix any issues. The front desk agent can't do anything. Not to mention their inventory (the room types they have available) aren't necessarily the same as what's shown on those 3rd party sites. Meaning, you could book a "2 bed king suite" through Expedia, but that room might not actually exist at that hotel. I know, it's stupid and it happens all the time.
@cordcd7
@cordcd7 2 жыл бұрын
This right here. I only book directly with the hotel I'm staying at now. Last year couple friends and I went out of town for an event. Due to our miscommunication, they booked me a room and I also booked my own, via a third party website. When we realized this we asked the front desk if we could refund the extra room. He said that because my room was booked 3rd party, there was nothing he could do. If I had booked directly with them he would have refunded me the room right there, on the spot. From then, I've sworn off 3rd party sites, just to save a few bucks. Because, when it comes to it, if there's an issue, I'd much rather deal with the front desk than some call center or chat bot on a booking site.

@@Jellymiqo If you as a hotel company don't work with third party sites, they will still pretend they have rooms for your hotel online, appear at the top of google BEFORE your hotels website, and when you visit the page they will either tell you the hotel is sold out or just not offer that hotel at all. So a huge amount of traffic will essentially be lost and the hotel will make a whole lot less money. Not to mention people that use a third party service for ease of booking reservations and won't consider your hotel because it isn't on there. That's how my regional sales manager explained it to me, at least. It's real real sc**my, expecially considering around 1/2 of reservations (at least at my hotel) are cancelled long before the day of arrival, and some of those are necessarily third party reservations.

The hotel one really makes me crazy. I remember that our hotel reservation got messed up once on a family vacation. I was 14 and my brother was 10. The room was similar and had a pull out couch and 1 queen bed. My mom and I shared the bed and my brother and dad shared the pull out couch. On our 2nd night there the staff was able to give us a roll away cot to use as well (they only had 3 and they were all being used the 1st night). Needless to say, if the dad's legitimate main concern is having a place for his family to sleep then he would take the room and make it work for the night.

@@freewithnature I think you might've missed the reason why he was angry. Originally he booked a room with 2 queen size beds directly through the hotel but he chose to cancel that room booking. In order to try and save money he went through a 3rd party booking site and made a room reservation for a king suite which only has 1 king bed and a pull out couch. The man was mad at the hotel staff for something that was entirely his own fault. He originally had a room with 2 beds but chose to cancel it in order to get a cheaper rate. I have used several 3rd party hotel sites and normally the way it works is that you can either choose the room size (or bed amount) and the discount will be based off of that. Another way it is done is that the site has a discount room rate BUT it only applies to one type of room. For example, the 3rd party will have a single queen bed room for $40.00 cheaper than it would be if you went through the hotel directly. That price would only be good for a room with the single queen bed. You cant choose to upgrade the bedroom to a larger room or have additional beds because the site doesn't offer a deal for any other type of room. When it comes down to it, the man is solely at fault for being in this situation. He should have kept his original room reservation that guaranteed a room with 2 queen sized beds. If you choose to go through a 3rd party site then you need to pay attention to what type of room you are booking. He can't expect to pay a discounted price for a smaller room and then be upgraded to a bigger (and probably more expensive) room. In all honesty there really isnt much of a difference between the room he got and the room he wanted anyways. The only difference is that one had a legitimate bed and one has a pull out sleeper sofa. Most pull out couches have a queen sized mattress anyway so he would've gotten one queen sized place to sleep and then a king sized bed, which is bigger than the original 2 queen beds.

@@ebonymarieblack1530 yeah i think the implication was that he maybe cancelled the direct reservations last second and assumed that room would become available and he could scoop it up this way. I have 3 other siblings and my parents. When I was younger, it would be 3 of us on the pull out, 1 on a cot, and my parents on the bigger bed. Sometimes one of us on the pull out would squeeze in with my parents if the bed was big enough. We didn’t have a lot of money when I was younger in order to be booking expensive hotel rooms, but my dad always tried to do nice things for us. This hotel room arrangement was and still is pretty normal to me. Now we have enough money to get a hotel room with at least 3 beds (including the pullout, sometimes with a cot too) but with less frequent vacations (not that they were even frequent before lol), so we will sleep in pairs. I don’t understand why that guy was so upset. There were clear solutions.

A friend and I booked a hotel using that site for my birthday in October. It was a surprise from my husband, who knew that neither me nor my friend had ever spent a weekend away from our children since they were born. Our kids are 9 and 12, so this was very anticipated and needed for the both of us. We drive 2 hours and finally get there for them to tell us there was no reservation, even though the website sent me confirmation emails and everything weeks prior. I sat there in disbelief, and told my friend we would sleep in our car before we went back home, because I knew all the hotels in the area were booked completely. I was upset, but not once did it cross my mind to lash out on the guy behind the desk or other people in the lobby. Instead, I patiently waited until the employee found a room similar to what I had asked for, and I very happily took that room and thanked him for such excellent service. I knew it wasn’t his fault, because I’m an adult and I have a brain.

It’s so dumb too. Those staff are literally there to help you and are obviously not going to be as forthcoming if you’re a piece of shit. I travel a bit for work and I always make a point to be nice and smile when dealing with people. My mum raised me to have manners, so whenever someone asks “how are you” I answer and then repeat the same question to them. Most of the time you get a surprised reaction, because they never get asked that! So always be kind and respectful to the people providing you a service.

As a 5ft female who worked in retail/customer service at a gas station/convenience store for 6 years (including overnight shifts completely alone), the amount of grown ass men and women who would verbally berate me and physically threaten me over things that I, as a cashier, had zero control over still astounds me. My job had a partnership with a popular grocery store chain where the customers who had loyalty cards for the grocery store or who earned tokens for shopping there could get discounted gas at my job. The loyalty cards or silver tokens earned them $0.05 off a gallon of gas up to 20 gallons. The gold tokens earned them $0.20 off, also up to 20 gallons. Along with this, my job used to have discounted gas day on Wednesdays where we would drop our prices by $0.05 and they could also use the grocery store discount in combination. Needless to say we were busy af on those days and tons of people would come get gas in order to save money filling up their tanks. Well my company was owned by a larger corporation who decided to sell off numerous stores and ours ended up being one of them. The new owners got rid of the partnership with the grocery store and did away with the discounts on Wednesdays. I was working double one night, the 3rd shift worker never showed up so I got stuck being forced to work the overnight shift after just working my scheduled 8 hour shift. It was about 2:30am and a guy pulled in and parked at the pump. He came in and asked for $45.00 and handed me one of the gold tokens. I explained to him that our new owners didn't continue the partnership with the store I wouldn't be able to take the coin or give a discount for his gas. This guy flipped a goddamn shit. He was yelling, slamming his hand on the counter, swearing at me, and demanding that I give him the $0.20 discount. I explained once again that this was a corporate decision, it wasn't something that I had any control over, and that it wasn't possible for me to change the gas price for him at all because I was just a cashier. He kept screaming about how he is a paying customer, the customer is always right, and that if I knew what was good for me I would find a to get him his discount. I am not gonna be fuckin threatened so I ended up canceling the $45.00 on the pump, handed him his money back and told him that now he wouldn't be purchasing gas from here for any price and that if he knew what was good for him he would gtfo of my store before I had him arrested. He grabbed the money and as he was walking out the door he made a comment about how I better watch myself when I leave later. I immediately dialed the police department and locked the door so he couldn't come back inside. The station is literally a minute drive up the road so they were pulling into the parking lot in less than a minute. As soon as he saw them pull in he picked up the trash can and started bashing it off the big window that was where I was standing behind the register and screaming "you fuckin stupid c**t". He ended up getting arrested and a no trespassing order was put on him. You would think the bosses would've realized after that how dangerous it can be for an employee to work alone at night but they honestly didn't seem to give a fuck cause they had the audacity to ask me to work the overnight again the following evening so that another employee could attend a bachelor party...🤦🏽‍♀️😑🙄 I never realized just how fuckin crazy some people can get over minimalist stuff until working with the general public.

Granted this is coming from the viewpoint of a family that would go on an 18 hour road-trip once or twice a year to go visit my grandparents, so we used to sleeping in cramped quarters.

I don't typically comment on anything. More of a silent observer. I did want to tell you though that I have been watching your stuff for years. Your rise to success is more than well deserved. Always bingeworthy stuff that I could watch all day. Relatable and downright honest to the core. It really feels like you're speaking from the heart while adding all of the necessary flare in all the right places. I hope you never stop doing what you do. With the plethora of source material, I see no end in sight. I am happy to always thrust the absolute shit out of that like button until my pelvis shatters to the point that not even the most gifted surgeon could even promise me the hope of one day walking again. Stay well, brother!

That interaction at the front desk is nothing compared to the the late night arrivals that find out the hotel is overbooked and they have to send everyone to a hotel that is 30 minutes away in far more sketchy area. The thing that always bugged me was that these irate people seem to think that the front desk person (usually paid just above minimum wage) is personally responsible for taking their reservation, ensuring that it's entered into the system correctly, not overbooking the hotel, and then ensuring that the late arrival gets exactly what they think they're entitled to.

So I used to work at the front desk at a hotel. I highly recommend always booking directly through the hotel. If a reservation is booked thru a third party it's actually not even possible to alter the reservation in any way on the hotel end. Not even the length of stay. It's always worth it to book directly

so heres what happens if old boy admits his error and is polite to the desk lady and asks for her best advice: she will literally call the next closest hotels in their system and help you to find a sufficient room. be nice, bro, damn. also...having your wife and two kids on the king and your messing-up ass on the pull out gets you there, so its not even that hard to resolve. BE NICE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE and you will get their best efforts to resolve mistakes THAT YOU MADE!

As someone who worked front desk at hotels for about 10 years, I give that girl so much credit keeping her composer. The amount of people like that you need to deal with working a job like that is ridiculous though. You wouldn't believe how many times people book the wrong rooms then take it out on you because of it. I had to call the cops more than once for guests becoming physically violent because they couldn't get the room they wanted or were drunk etc.

It used to be legal and very popular to climb Chichen Itza in Mexico. I climbed it with a friend in the late 90s and there were about 100 other people there climbing it at the same time. My guess is it was probably getting damaged by all the tourists. It was very difficult to climb.

That girl has the most amazing amount of patience, I keep interactions with other people to a minute and that's it before just shaking my head and saying "we can't help you" then cancel reservation. Repeating what she can and can't do was best. Guy was repeating the same questions and expecting a different answer.

To throw my two cents in, when my family stayed in a hotel and Quebec we had a room like the one she saying they booked. I legit slept on the floor in a sleeping bag because I'm like well I'm not going to make it a big deal and try to sleep with my dad in a bed LOL like honestly if I'm married couple with two young kids they can easily share a pull out couch or you could sleep on the pull out couch with one of your kids. Just a male Karen

The pull out couches in these hotels are generally queen sized. This man was arguing over not having two queen beds when he in fact had a queen AND a king sized bed. He had EXTRA bed space and was upset that he couldn't downgrade.

@@ATFprdepartment Yea, tips are always nice. I used to get tips when I worked at a Gas Station and as a Valet Driver. I would go home with more than $500 in tips on average, but holy mother of God did I ever hate it. I guess it would have been different if I had a family to support or something, then I could put up with it. But considering that I was just in School and didn't NEED those jobs, I quit. Having to deal with people being so dam rude to you on a daily basis just because, I dunno, because? I couldn't do it. People who act that way seriously BOTHER me more than anything else, drives me nuts.

We have people that make their own mistakes and then get pissed when you can't help them and when you do provide a solution, they just come at you even more pissed off. RESPECT to this woman. As far as the "influencer" being a cringy ho . SMH Her parents must be proud.

I've been in hotels for 20 plus years and this happens ALL the time. People will have a particular room booked and cancel it and book a cheaper room through a 3rd party, not the room type that they originally booked and demand that they get the room that they had at higher rate, that they CANCELLED. You stand there LOOKING at the original booking and your brain explodes, because they chose to attempt to save $10.
