Does the thing your university use just follow people around? Or can it deliver stuff on its own? Because I think the latter would make it a lot more useful than this device.
@SilverDragonJay
@SilverDragonJay Жыл бұрын
@@concisegizmo4257 I think my university had the same or similar thing. In the case at mine, they were autonomous robots that did food delivery on campus. Neat idea, I guess, if it weren't for the fact that they got in the way a lot, and got stuck a lot (to the point where you'd have to track them down to collect your food), and they were also really slow. If you happen to order food around the time that classes get out (which is every 1-2 hours, mind you) then the robots would just get stuck in the middle of the road because there were too many people walking around. Seriously, it took less time for me to put in my food order for pickup and then bike to get it. I'm talking 20 minutes (to bike there, grab the food, and return) vs 40 minutes. I'd be back well before the robot would be able to get there without delays. Didn't help that my campus was functionally a 15-minute city all on its own with ample public transit and bike routes. I guess it might be worth it if you are too busy studying to take a break, but honestly if you're that busy then you _need_ to go get your food yourself. Breaks are good and endless studying isn't (learned that lesson the hard way).
@donyori
@donyori Жыл бұрын
@concisegizmo4257 It doesn't follow people, I don't think. It stays at the marketplace to get loaded with food, and then it has a GPS to your phone. Once you accept the delivery, it heads back to the market to be loaded again.
@samkadel8185
@samkadel8185 Жыл бұрын
But this doesn't have GPS and the wheels don't look like they can handle multiple terrains well. Given it just follows people, it seems likely to accidentally follow random other people. Also, I highly doubt it can follow wheelchairs.

@samkadel8185 I'm not sure how the robot in the video works since the sponsored posts are so bad at advertising. I think the ones at my school are probably more effective and work better. It snows a lot where I'm at, so the tires on my school's robot are very good.

As a stroller for your dog it could work maybe in very safe situations, but why not just use a stroller for that?

As someone who occasionally uses a cane, the concept of a robot following me around carrying something like food or drink that can't be put in a backpack sounds almost appealing. Almost. A well-made shallow box or basket with well-sized handles sounds a lot more convenient, though. Mostly because I'd be too worried about the robot being able to move up ramps and avoid other people and such. What happens if the robot runs out of battery? Or if something goes wrong with the weather? It wouldn't be very accessible then.

My college campus has little robots that deliver you food from the restaurants on campus, and I'm 100% sure this company saw that and went "what if we made that but worse". The Starship delivery robots have been around for years and it's definitely better designed than these.

I don't even think this would be that useful for most people with walking issues, not just because they'd have to pick the 28pounds up when walking up stairs/higher ramps, but also because they'd have to keep bending up and down to get the stuff out of the container.

The piaggio company is the umbrella company that owns vespa. If they leaned into it being a vespa robot they would probably sell more.

I love all things robot related and fall in love with any new robot concept I see, but this isn't very exciting. It's just a tiny box that follows you around. Other than following you, it has no other purpose . All I could think was that someone could run up behind you and steal the robot.

That lock was absolutely sad. Like the guy wiggled it around and clearly unhinged the lock by just barely pulling on it. At the end of the clip he pushes it back into place to give the impression that he "wasn't successful," but that's hilarious.

This would be cool to have in DnD if you played with strict carry weight rules. Something to carry potions or more gold. If you could upgrade it to carry more weight and it could actually go across tough terrain. Maybe something you build as an artificer or something that is just readily available in the world. I personally don't play with carry weight rules unless something is rly heavy so it probably would not be very useful in my campaigns.

As a wheelchair user, if it was bigger it could be vaguely useful, but like... I can carry that same amount of shit on my lap. Or, for thousands of dollars less, I could just get a damn bag to attach to my chair. It's so incredibly useless lmao

If I had a nickel for every BS personal assistant robot that was only available to influencers I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird there’s two of them. Amazon has one named Astro that has a camera and can be commanded to go to different rooms to basically spy on your family. Astro, however, is invitation only so the general public can’t buy one

Now......and hear me out on this....if they improved the shock absorbers and made it possible to screw things like a tripod into the top, it could be a top notch piece of filming equipment. Imagine livestreaming outdoors and moving around/changing locations without holding a phone or having it strapped to your body anywhere. Your own little personal camerabot.
