I just wonder what the guy would have said if there was no son who needed a superhero because he seems like the kind of guy who thinks superheroes are only for boys. If the man he was talking to only had daughters, what example would he have given? Did he even think of one in the case that someone he brought on stage didn't have a son? I definitely noticed the way he jumped at the opportunity to talk about the son and not the daughters. The moment he was told the man had a son he completely dropped even trying to include the daughters. Also honestly good catch on the toxic masculinity point you made, it seems very likely to me that he did in fact single out the son because he would value his opinion over his sisters', and probably assumes that the father feels the same way (I hope not, what a terrible way to look at your own children).

So when he talks about getting into a mindset of having to save the lives of your family, it's not about motivating people to get really good at selling cars, it's about convincing people to use dishonest, immoral, or even illegal sales tactics to close deals. Normal people think that ripping people off is a shitty thing to do, but if they think they are going to disappoint their loved ones because they don't sell enough cars, then they will sacrifice their morality to sell more cars.

One of the scariest thing I see in these hyper strict sport diets is this fear of carbs. My dad died when I was 9 and I always thought he was a super hero. Before I was 5 he was a chubby man but around when I started kindergarten he lost a lot of weight and gained a lot more muscle. He was always really strong it just became more visible. Before he died there was the phase of "fat Daddy" and then he was "hippie Dan". He died of a heart attack due to the strain the Keto diet had on his heart that had been building up for years. Not saying it's terrible, it just wasn't the best for him and it cost us. He was my super hero and he still is. He would have turned 52 today, Happy Birthday Daddy❤. I also have an ED and am working on recovery. For example today is a tough day as you can assume so I had not eaten. I also have a genetic mutation that fucks with my blood sugar. So now I'm hounding cereal since I need to go to work soon. When it was really bad I pretty much didn't eat. I was collapsing at dance class. Got to a mental institution and they threatened to tube me (put a tube up my nose to get food to my stomach) I started getting better and now I'm trying to keep the structure of my eating. I look at photos of me from a year ago and I find myself wishing I was still that skinny. But I am much healthier than I was then. And my body serves me well.

I’m so sorry you lost your dad and you are going through the same struggles. I’m sure people say “your dad would want your body healthy even if you were a little overweight” but that doesn’t give motivation. Of course he’d love you at any size but our brains are extremely powerful. I’ve seen some ED so extreme I don’t know how they survived. But I’ve seen people come back to being healthy again too. I’m wishing you nothing but the best and strength in your fight. I hope there comes a day when you can eat without thinking about it and you feel strong and healthy. ❤

My brother grew up with eating disorders, when he was like 10 he was almost anorexic, he would just hardly eat, it was terrifying for that to be happening to a child. now as an adult hes in a much better place, is working out regularly and eating heaps (as is healthy for someone with his routine), and my mum guilts him over how much money we spend on food, which is an insane thing to tell someone with history of EDs. point is yeah, mens eating disorders is no joke

I work as a kinesiologist and I kove when I hear people say healthy ways to change your habits, like you two did. All you said was very sound and in line with my educated philosophy of working out and eating well. Regarding body fat... when your body is recovering (after serious injury or illness), it uses primarily your body to fuel itself. It has been observed that people with very high body fat have higher recovery rates after serious car accidents, for example. Of course, high body fat have many other long-term risks that this doesn't outweigh. But keeping your body fat at bare minimum is an unecessary risk for a time when you (heaven forbid) might need it. I wish, people would choose more robust health over absurd beauty standards for themselves.

On the dieting failing, there is a psychological thing nicknamed the "what the hell line" where most extremely restrictive diets fail, it basically is the point when someone crosses over their daily caloric intake or eats a food that is outside of their restrictive diet, and they then say "Oh what the hell, I've failed the diet anyway" and they then begin binging foods etc. The most successful diets are those which aren't about restriction what you eat or making your portions super tiny, but about finding a good balance between caloric intake and caloric burn through exercise etc, and also being extremely positive and not listening to idiots who say you're disgusting etc.

I've hung around people heavier than me all my life. Not on purpose, I just happen to have a faster metabolism than some so my weight doesn't always line up with how much I eat. Everyone I knew who cared about their weight would tell me how healthy I was compared to my friends, and how I must be so happy with having an hourglass figure (thin waist and wide hips). In honesty, I probably ate way worse than a lot of my bigger friends, and my cholesterol has always been in a bit of a danger zone since I was a kid. Just because someone looks skinny doesn't mean they're necessarily following good eating habits.

I couldn’t eat toast with out sitting down and calculating if I would have enough left in my “carb budget” for the lunch I wanted. During Covid I couldn’t go to the gym, so I started hiking/walking. I fell in love with the area I lived in. My little town turned into my safe haven. Soon I was more interested in how many birds I could find and how many miles I had walked than how high I had gotten my heart rate. My relationship with food was a longer journey. I couldn’t delete my calorie app until a year or two ago. I rarely have time to work out now, but I love how I look more than I ever have. If you’re in a similar place that I was, just take it one day at a time. It takes time to break bad habits, but you can do it❤ you and your wonderful, hardworking body are so so worth it. I promise.
