But not even though. The more that social media grows, the more emphasis we're putting on looking like supermodels and celebrities, even on regular ass people. It's creating an impossible and unattainable beauty standard. People need to unplug and realize that they can't expect every person they come across to have a carved body and a 24/7 face of makeup that still looks "all natural". We need to stop commodifying beauty like we, especially women, owe it to the world to be pretty. Forget beauty standards!

Young people don’t realize that a lot of us in our 20s didn’t grow up in a world where wearing sunscreen on your face was drilled into our heads. Quite the opposite. In the early 2000s people wanted to be tan. Even when I was a teen in the later 2010s a lot of people still wanted to be tan. I grew up being told the sun is good for you and it’s good to get some sun on your skin. So these 13 year olds calling her a bad person for not wearing spf are just plain ignorant and loud.

Also these kids have grown up only ever seeing extremely filtered or photoshopped skin and celebrities with Botox playing high schoolers in their late 20s and early 30s. They are so terribly insecure about literally everything, every week they come up with a new body feature or function to be ashamed for. They think if they project on others that it won’t happen to them well sucks for them, acne, eye bags, wrinkles, and dark spots are all normal and they’re definitely in store for them. They’re in for a harsh reality check

do people not realize that majority of kids are not even capable to have acne or any skin "flaws" (including acne scars, acne in general, wrinkles), because they (majority of them) have not gone through puberty....so companies and people promoting use of skincare and makeup to reduce the aging process is...interesting

Gen.z. isn't all aging quickly, but there is definitely a rise in steroid use, vaping, and extremely unhealthy diets and "micro-plastic surgery" with gen.z. like I do think people are taking this whole thing way too far, but I think there will definitely be a rapid aging in the body as well if we don't push back on these toxic trends that have become normalized. Like buccal fat removal and botox touch ups. I feel like people's faces might fall off at 50 years old tbh, like eventually people will start getting skinnier bones implanted or something.

This idea of aging is wild; the other day I had to show a security person my ID because they thought I was 13... I'm 18...💀and then they said, "Wow, you look great for 18; good genetics." (They were dead serious.) Like, sir, when has 18 ever been a "bad" age? Also, it's clearly not a good thing to look 13 (when you're not). What people often seem to forget is that our concept of "good for their age" also drastically changes with time and our perception of the person in question. Like yes, it IS surprising that my grandmother is 73 and has no gray hairs, but if you asked me? She looks her age. Because I know her and that's the age I associate with her. I've had people think I'm younger or older than I am at first glance all my life. It always changed to my current age once we became close enough they knew my birthday. "Good for their age" is not a science and these people need to learn that

I have a connective tissue disease that causes my skin to have excessive elasticity and smoothness, giving me a literal "baby face" at 22... But it also causes my limbs to constantly pop in and out of their sockets, muscles to tear off the bone at random times if I'm not excessively cautious, as well as organ and blood dysfunction 24/7. It scares the shit out of me that there's so many people who, despite how DEBILITATING the disease is, have casually mentioned in person that they "wish they had it" because of how it affects my skin. They'd be willing to live a life of literal constant agony, being in and out of different mobility aides, and monthly doctor's visits just for some shiny skin that doesn't even work properly???? It both breaks my heart and absolutely BAFFLES me that our society is still so rooted in appearance-based measurements of worthiness, I feel like I need to start workshopping asap how to teach my future kiddos to address this in a healthy way because it's incredibly sad to witness. For reference, I am not a woman, but I was raised as one for about 18 years of my life, so I'm very familiar with the wild expectations and standards set (BY MEN MIGHT I ADD) for folks who exist within the femme areas of gender expression.

The way people are so terrified of aging is just exhausting and dismaying because they’re only amplifying it. We have grown adults attacking each other for visibly aging differently and preteens having meltdowns about needing anti-aging products for wrinkles they do not have and won’t have for years because they’re hearing all this garbage. If we’re expecting to live long, we’re not going to look like we’re in our 20’s forever.

It reminds me of how people talk about collagen, and that there might be products that can do minor benefits so many are scams because it’s simply not now it works. Rubbing it into your face isn’t going to do anything, and pills/powders might do minor things but usually unless medically designed aren’t bounded to be some savior for your aging skin since it has mixed results. You can take all these supplements and products as much as you want but none of them can inherently magically stop or reverse aging- majority just want your money to feed the capitalistic machines and greed that keep people self conscious

I'm 19 and have had severe body dysmorphia about my face for as long as I can remember. It's the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning because of a society seemingly now cultivated on looks. :( I had to delete Tiktok years ago because the beauty hierarchy was already terrible even back in 2021 on that godforsaken app. I'm way better now than how I was at 13 or 14, and I can actually go outside without caking my face in toxic makeup, but It's still so hard! I feel so dumb explaining this to people as well as I guess It's seen as a very superficial and self-centered concern. I get that feedback a lot from older women, especially gen x (for whatever reason). Yes they grew up with the Y2K, stick thin model era, but it wasn't as fast-paced and recycled as everything is now. Those skinny "influencers" at the time also, were models for a reason. I feel the standard now is that everyone, despite your place in life, is supposed to be 100% perfect and beautiful all the time. This simply just not do-able; nobody has the time for that. We're exposed to so much more and I hope that young girls who see the perfect faces of random people online do not think that that's how everybody looks... It's just quite sad and nobody really truly talks about it the effects. Body dysmorphia has had such a negative effect on my life and It's been a terribly deep hole to crawl out of. Life can be hard to live when the body you're supposed to be living in feels wrong and insufficient.

Couple of tree things: -I knew this one girl in my first dorms who had wrinkles on her face likely from being a very expressive person. She happened to look like she was straight out of the 80s, like I'd see her face on a Smiths album cover, so I nicknamed her "80s". She did work the look. -My mom looked the same for the majority of my life. Only 2 years ago did she let her hair go grey. When I was 9 she was halfway through her forties and my sister blurted out "but you'll be ooooooold :(" and she goes "yeah well I'll still be pretty". It stuck with me to this day and she stayed true to her word, and I think part of me will follow suit (her brothers are still the same weight and I've been compared aplenty to them). She's got that Paul Rudd thing going on in that where she was a kid she looked 30 so it was a bit of everything. The only visual imagery I'll give of my mom is Arab Julia Roberts

Imagine twenty years from now when you really start aging and then think how silly you are. Even if you “look older” you are LIVING, you are A PERSON, your appearance is not your value. Maybe I feel this way because I’ve always had freckles and got bullied for it, so I already have marks I didn’t choose all over my face and body. I just want people to ACTUALLY love themselves and not look in the mirror and say “I love my face because it’s YOUNG” or some other adjective, life is crazy and your appearance could always change, a medical emergency or everyday accident could even do it 🤷
