My best stage fail: I was in Seussical and my costume was the literal bird from Rio (even though I was ensemble and not a bird girl). So anyway we go to sing “Chasing the Whos” and my dumb self realized I was on the wrong side of the stage. So instead of staying on that side and flipping my choreography, I “flew” across the stage and went “CACA” like a bird in the middle of people singing..

My theatre group did The Wizard of Oz before I joined. Some details might be wrong as I wasn’t there. During one scene the group was lost in a forest I believe, and Toto is the one who comes to lead them out. But our Toto missed her cue, and nobody could find her. So the characters just walked around on stage for a few minutes, talking about how they missed Toto and wished Toto were here. One said “I think I’ve seen this tree before”. These ad-lids became more passive aggressive until Toto finally was found and scrambled onto stage. She then went on to exclaim the most awkward bark, much to the relief of everyone else. Apparently it was all chaos backstage as everyone tried to find her.

my biggest theater fail was when i was 7, doing a summer theater class. We had a single show at the end of it, and this year it was The Little Mermaid and i was Scuttle. So, we just finished Kiss the Girl and i step off my little rock and walk offstage. I didn’t know my mic was still on, and as i was walking right by the speakers the thunder sound effect plays very loudly for when flotsam and jetsam shock the boat. I said to myself “ay, nagulat ako” (‘ay, i got surprised’ in Filipino) and *the audience heard it.* Fast forward a few years and i’m in my first real play, and one of the adults there asked if i was the one who said “ay nagulat ako” in the production. It was embarrassing af

In my theatre’s production of Steel Magnolias, we had huge letter as part of the set to spell out “TRUVY’S” on the wall. During the last show, in the middle of a scene, the U fell and loudly shattered out of nowhere. Without missing a beat, our Truvy marched over, exasperated, and said “I swear- my husband, Drum, never hangs these things up right!”. There was a round of applause, it was fantastic.

Recently I played Jo March in my high school’s production of Little Women. On the second performance day, our hair stylist decided to experiment by putting a second bun hair piece on me because it was hard for her to get my hair into just one. During Weekly Volcano Press, I felt like the bottom piece was slipping but I chalked it up to my imagination. Lo and behold, shortly after the number while I was still on stage doing dialogue, it fell off and landed next to me. It didn’t help that the audience that day was really quiet but all of a sudden murmurs were rippling through them. As embarrassed as I probably should have been, the hardest part was actually not laughing. It wouldn’t have been a good look considering my character just found out her sister is dying 😂

I played Lily in Anastasia this past year. During Land if Yesterday after everyone is on the ground, I was doing heel clicks by myself facing the back and when I landed my last one I totally rolled my ankle. I didn't fall, and I used the opportunity to turn to the audience. The choreographer backstage noticed and winced, but the directors and the audience didn't so I'd say task failed successfully

My best stage fail: So my theater group recently did Newsies and it was amazing. Luckily this story took place during rehearsal so no one saw thank god. So we’re doing the scene where Jack says that the newsies won or something and then some celebration music plays. So my little thing I did during the celebration music was do some heel clicks downstage then turn around and hop off of the stage left platform/tower thing. But when I did this, I jumped a little too high and hit my head on a horizontal support beam we had which then led to me falling on my butt on stage and because I was in jazz shoes and the stage is always slippery I fell hard and fast. A few cast members noticed and just stared for a second but I just stood up and continued cheering on the verge of tears. Also during this show I did the same thing that one girl did and started singing at the wrong time. It was during Brooklyn’s Here and I forgot a pause that isn’t in the original but is in the licensed version and the guy who played one of the Brooklyn Newsies wouldn’t let me live it down and would always look at me during the pause so I wouldn’t forget

in our middle school production of fiddler on the roof during one of the scenes with the most lines for perchik he missed the cue and the entire scene so all of the sisters (including myself) were sitting onstage fake peeling potatoes hoping it could be a brief pause that we could play off (we were all very young and didn’t know what to do) so the mom had to come onstage and make something up to get us out of the scene but it essentially meant that in the next scene hodel and perchik saw each other, he asked her to marry him after having one prior interaction in the show (bc a big piece of dialogue was skipped since that scene was abandoned) but mainly i still think about how long we must have been miming peeling potatoes for 😭

My biggest theater fail was a year ago. I played Wendy Darling in in my school’s production of Peter Pan, and it was my first major, major role. So I had the jitters when we did the same thing we always do: a dress rehearsal for the little kids, the day before opening. During I’m Flying, I had my biggest stage mishap EVER. You see, we were using hoverboards and dry ice to create the illusion of flying, and stage crew put my hoverboard BACKWARDS. If you have ever ridden a hoverboard, you know that makes it practically impossible to ride. So we started to “fly”, and I thought I was doing pretty well. I now knew my hoverboard was in the wrong direction, but I thought I was handling it like a champ. Until I started to spin. It was one of those REALLY dizzying spins. I spun for about twenty seconds straight, hearing the ear-ringing laughs and taunts from the kids. Thankfully, the boy who played John grabbed my arm, and Micheal grabbed my waist, but they ended up spinning, too. Needless to say, I fell off. I was so dizzy, but I still ran around that stage. The boys playing John and Micheal thought they couldn’t go around my board, even though it was QUITE possible. So, we got rid of the hoverboards and just walked through the dry ice. One of the best shows I’ve been in though! 😅

Wanna share my stories while I'm here! I was doing a song where we were quickly walking across the stage and adoring the town. I went to do a spin to jazz up the performance and not look super bland but I slipped and fell with an audible thud. I had to quickly get up and off but that was such an embarrassment. Also in this show, The soles of my shoes kept coming off so our costumes crew kept having to hot glue them back on. I got off stage of a song before I had to go back on for another one and I realized it was falling off again. We didnt have time to glue it back so we got some bright yellow spike tape (it's what we had at the time) and taped it up so I was doing our big before intermission piece with a giant, visible piece of tape on the back of my shoe. (Adding injury to insult, I had to do this big front of stage kickline in this song too!) My lesson to anyone is dont wear cowboy boots in a tap show! The show is Crazy for You by Ken Ludwig, Ira Gershwin, and George Gershwin for anyone who is wondering!

Best theatre fail of mine was when I was in a local production of Aladdin and my twin sister and I (I'm a dude) were playing Jafar's henchmen. So on the performance night, we missed our cue on stage because it took us ages to costume change. We came running onto the stage the third time Jafar had called us (At this point in the plot, he had just captured the sultan) and told us to take the Sultan away. But, the dude who was playing the sultan got so bored of us waiting he disappeared and it was like some sixth sense but my sister and I immediately started playing dumb very comedically and said "What sultan?" and fair play to the woman playing Jafar, she went, "Well he's gone because you took so long fools! Retrieve him nitwits". Very fond memories.

Once during our first performance with an audience, a matinee for middle schoolers that was just the first act of the show, almost the entire time I was on stage (the last 2 songs with a scene in between) my mic was falling off my face. I was constantly acting like I was adjusting my hair instead of frantically trying to get the tape to stick lol. Not a single person noticed, except maybe my co star (who was 2 feet away from me lol). Also, that same co star, on the second night of the show, was supposed to swing ons rage using arial silks. He smacked into the wood set, ended up bleeding, and continued the song XD. I saw when I came on stage later since he had a bandage on and as soon as we got off stage for intermission (I didn't go off at all between coming on and intermission) went "WHAT DID YOU DO???" lol. Also once another co star convinced me to let him throw in a line about shampoo since there was a costume change that our scene was definitely not long enough to cover lol. Chaotic show, but boy was it a fun first high school show xD

Ok so the place I do theater has two separate casts: 1 for 7-12 year olds(regardless of their age they are still incredible), and another for 13-18 year olds. I'm in the older company, and we did a preview of our show(Anastasia), at the younger kids show(Peter Pan Jr). About halfway through the song we were performing, the music completely cut out. We had to do the entire rest of the song acapella. I play the Russian Military and our choreo is to basically just stand there and look serious. So I did that, but inside, my brain was going NUTS. I had fears that the music would come back on randomly and we'd have to rewind, but they said they couldn't turn the music back on because it would mess it up. After we finished, we usually just go offstage and watch the younger kids, but our directors came to the stage and were talking about how we played it off so well. And we really did, we were in tune, we didn't miss a beat, we did the best we could for literally no music. My friend and I were looking at each other in relief that the song had ended. And the song we did(A Rumor In St. Petersburg) is a pretty long song. But it felt SO MUCH LONGER with the added stress of doing it with no music. But we did it. And that was really my first time encountering a mishap onstage. Sorry for the long paragraph but I really wanted to talk about it lol.

If I could offer one: Playing Jane during Tarzan. Practicing a scene where I take things off of a table and go to put them in a tent. It's tech week. So, I'm about to pick up a book, and I realize it feels oddly heavier and harder to lift. But, I don't have much time, so I just pick it up, turn, and walk back to the tent. And then I hear a CRASH. Yeeeah, the reason the book felt heavier was because it's back cover had slipped under the tea tray. . . The crash was the porcelain teapot hitting the stage and shattering. Honestly at that point I was so tired I had no tears left to cry lol. I just sat there smiling tiredly on a box while my co star hugged me and the stage managers swept up the tea pot lol XD. Bonus, during the actual performance of that show, the second night I accidentally said the wrong line at the end of a scene. Whatever, I thought, it doesn't matter, they're similar and people will forget. It was supposed to go at the beginning of the next scene, 30 seconds later xd. So I switched things around a bit to fix it, confused myself, and did the whole scene inside out. Somehow I still made it to my sound cue, and I have no clue what my co star was thinking XD

so we're currently doing shrek jr and during rehearsals yesterday we did a read through of the show. we got to the part where shrek wakes up fiona in her tower and me and my friend were silently acting it out while it was actually going on. well my friend actually shook me like how shrek is supposed to shake fiona and I screamed really loud out of nowhere and it was super embarrassing

Mine would be when I was in bye bye birdie my freshman year of high school. We had to run up a fake staircase after Conrad at the end of the scene. Well I was the last one to exit and lost my shoe while running. I had to run back and grab my shoe, then up the stairs and jump off the stair platform into the wings. I was mortified because I was the ONLY person onstage so it was clear what happened.

I think I might win this trend: last year in my schools production of frozen, I had a skirt (I was a townsperson). In “colder by the minute” I was in the front row for choreo. KEY PART RIGHT NOW: we had this top layer we all had to take off to represent “Anna getting unfrozen”. As I took it off, my SKIRT UNVELCROED and I flashed the whole audience. The worst part is that my pants had been turned red (iykyk) so ppl saw my BLOOD SOAKED SHORTS. I didn’t notice until someone in the snow chorus pointed it out 😭 still embarrassed Edit: I could go on about that fail for hours lol

Once I was playing Leroy smith in bugsy malone and I accidentally punched a guy in the face for real during a fake fight on opening night and afterwards the director yelled at me for breaking character (the boy ran off crying)

my biggest theatre was when i played sarah brown and two spereate nights i had to slap sky, one i missed him completely and acted bewildered as if i did hit him and the other i smacked him so hard by accident i genuinely panicked and he just kinda smirked and left and EVERYONE FREAKED OUT

I’ve got two! The first one, was during a middle school production of Into the Woods jr. and I played the wolf. So me and the witch were discussing about where we should put a tree because it was blocking either one of our entrances. Eventually, It got put somewhere that i wished it wasn’t, but it is fine, I can adapt. I go on for hello little girl, and just swing the tree around. What we didn’t know, is that it couldn’t stand up by itself, and it fell. Half our set pieces fell due to a domino reaction, sadly I don’t have it on video. The next one happened last night, during our final dress rehearsal for Wizard of Oz! What happened was that one of the cables we used to fly a set piece in broke, and we were almost squashed. Yeah it is a little concerning!

Oh wow!! That’s so scary! Did they pause the show when the set pieces fell?

We were actually just about to start act 2, so intermission was going to end in like 20 seconds, so they just kept intermission going for an extra few minutes

Why does the red thingy bounce up and down when the lady wearing yellow dress jumps on it? Is it a bounce house that got left on the stage?

listen ahh, idk why i write this here but assuming most of the viewers are theatre kids; . . . . . . . . . . . i'm a member of a theatre community in my college. have been there for a year now and hold a position too, but the thing is i've never liked acting. i joined thinking it would change bcs even though i don't like acting i like seeing people and actors doing it, i love analyzing characters, writing and all that but it never changed. though i kinda like being in the backstage more, but i've never really enjoyed it. it's pretty constant with the practices and all that, and the thing is if i've done acting (though, forcefully) constantly and never like it, doesn't that mean something? that i don't belong in theatre? i feel bad... these people around me probably devoted everything for theatre while i'm not, most of the time i did my tasks and responsibilities forcefully even though i always did them seriously. and i'm afraid theatre would only leave a bad experience for me bcs the amount of stress i've been getting (my theatre com is really busy, and ive always felt anxious doing ANYTHING related to acting). how can i love theatre if i didn't enjoy it..
