I've never had it happen in a casual setting like that, but it used to occasionally happen to me in my teens and early twenties on nights out. Back when I was still decent looking lol. As a young man if you're in shape and even just slightly above average looking with drunk women around, there is a good chance you're gonna get your ass squeezed. Hey dev, finally a question I can answer. You are pretty much right about food permits. So there are strict laws about passing out food without permits or licences. I worked in catering, currently working in kitchen, for a long time and basically it does have to do with the handling and prep. There have been cases of people handing out food to the public, which includes the homeless, where people have gotten sick or had allergic reaction to the food. Just in our employee break room we have a very strict code on how and what is served because of allergies alone. Often home kitchens or small operations might not have the allergy safe surface and if someone that morning had made pb & j on that surface and all it takes is a unknowing volunteer or unobservant volunteer to possibly kill someone. Iam being a little hyperbolic btw but the point still stands. If these people had applied for the right permits they probably wouldn't have this problem or just go through an already existing program that has the permits. It is much harder than it seems as local red tape is a thing but you can't cry wolf when you knew this would happen.

Now, I'm not an expert with NFC's, but it is to my understanding you can make use of them rather safely by limiting what info is actually being sent. Hotels have been using NFC key cards for years now and they just use a randomly generated code per card that means absolutely nothing except for whatever lock is set to unlock to that code for the time you're a guest. Someone cloning that info will just end up with a NFC with basically gibberish encoded on it. It would be like literally finding a key randomly in the street. Yeah, in that case you do have a physical key, but if you don't know what lock it's made for, it's pretty worthless.

Also the read range on them is miniscule. The reader has to power the NFC chip through the air and your flesh which means it becomes exponentially harder to read the farther you get. We are talking a reader as big as a suitcase for an inch distance. No one is going to invest in that kind of equipment for some thing as paltry as stealing your credit card info. Especially when they can just buy batches of card info on the darkweb. RFID blocking wallets are a bit of a scam not in that they dont work but in that they are not needed and exist only to play off the fears of people ignorant about this technology.
