Acrylic pour painting on Record - Sorry Elvis

Today I'll show you how to painting a great piece of art with a vinyl record and liquid acrylic paints. Anyone can do this. To make sure you don't make the same mistakes I did, I recorded my failed attempt at the beginning.
What happened? I had left the label of the record, because it is very firmly stuck and I assumed it would not do anything to the picture.
But as you can see, there was an air bubble from the label in one place and the label itself colored the white paint.
So I did remove it, which is not easy, but with sandpaper and a lot of patience it came off well.
It hurt me a bit to do something like that to my beloved Elvis, luckily I own this record twice.
My tip: take an artist you do not like, it's better for your conscience :-)

oh wow, love this, cheers for the inspiration 💛 I've so many stored records of my mum's from the 40s 50s 60s 70s and 80s and have contemplated selling them to find them a new home... now I'm viewing records as a blank canvas to create one of a kind artworks... fantastic idea ✨🕊 mum loved Elvis from a teenager onwards and still talked about him during my upbringing so she was a true muso fan... have her scrapbookings saved of Elvis cards, magazines / books, posters etc. I loved watching Elvis movies on the weekend with mum and seeing her light up even more, she was such a sweet loving soul, the most wonderful human being I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, miss her and remember her every single day 🙏🏻 Margaret 💚 It's like giving the records a whole new lease of life... Am thinking, each time painting one of her records, pull up vinyl on Spotify and play it whilst painting, to capture the frequency of the tunes embedded on the record... and save songs which capture my heart n' soul by adding them to a playlist 🤍🌏✌😎

Beautiful painting. I would only use scratched or otherwise undesirable records that are not valuable. I will try this technique sometime in the future.

That Elvis LP looks like it was an exquisite shape and it’s selling for $65 online. I can understand using a record that’s full of scratches but not one that looks this good. And I mean, it’s Elvis! The painting is lovely but I would use less black.

I usually use old Readers Digest anthology albums; the labels are plastic so they don't absorb water. Beautiful pour ^_^

There is quite a difference between the wet product and what I guess is the final dry product... but you wrapped up so quickly that I could barely enjoy the masterpiece that you were able to achieve. It's a beauty. I use a variety of paints in my mixed media projects. My take on making the record paintable would be a spritz of shellac to seal label and drying, then coat with chalk paint before the base.

A simple spray can of prep sealer. It seals all contaminants and prevent contamination transferring into the new paint.

Just wanted to say, I have successfully used so many different kinds of paints for pouring. House paint, tempura, acrylic, gloss, matte, etc. In fact, mixing different kinds and/or brands, can get great cell reactions without additives.

@@malteseheart when you think about it, not many people have turn tables NOW, let alone on the future. You can get the music on CD's, or digitally. And there are records out there WAY too scratched to use for anything else. Bottom line is what the OWNER of the record wants to fo with it. It DOES seem to ne a GREAT (can't think of the word) but "thing you put art on", lol. Really a clever idea!

another idea is to put gesso on it first. That's a whole lot less work than removing the label and sanding it all. Gesso is especially made for creating a base for acrylic paint.

Red labels are the worst, dark blue or black ones let the colour seep out also. Gesso the whole record makes a good base. I have yet to find a truly good way to hang the records for display though I must have tried 50 times. (My husband is wondering whatever happened to his old jazz LPs)
