Half a year.
"Til Ungdommen" means "To the youth" and was written in 1936 in the wake of WW2. The author, Nordahl Grieg, was inspired by the ongoing Spanish civil war when he wrote this poem.

The author (Nordahl Grieg) died in 1943 during the Berlin Bombardments. He worked as a war correspondent trying to show the world the horrors of war. Sadly he died by what he hated the most.

This song is not only an anti-war song, but it also a song which is played when representing the explosion and shooting on the 22nd of July 2011 in Norway, the explosion killed 8 people in Oslo, and there were said to be 69 people or more who were shot at Utøya, most of the killed ones were college students

This song made me shiver and cry as the sounds of the videos of ukarian rung through my mind. The rockets of hatred and lust for death. The tank machines that crush the Hope's of happyness in cities and homes we build. The guns that find the prey in wich they wish to kill. Let this war of the our century show. War is never worth it. We must stop it all cost. We must stop russia and its lust for land to keep its oligarchic roaring war machine alive. Let us rise not as monsters of old that can never understand peace. But live on earth together In cooperation and peace. Let us not let one more child have to watch there parent and loved one leave to die on a frontline or battfeild. Let us not have one more family, child, or person suffer the horrors and pains of being in a war they never could control or understand. Let us grow as humans. Let us. Be friends

And if the food economy, economic power with the steel plant of ukarian and more can affect the intire planet in a instant and is with the loss of ukarian food trading of wheat. And putin could start a intire world dominating war if he so choose too. While many genocides and killings go on each day in ukarian and more lives and rights are destroyed each day in russia and russian controlled ukarian lands Putin's fearfull grip is lost and he tries to tighten it harder. It's a war that has never had to happen. But it's a war we all can do our best to get the best outcome for ukarian to live and at least hold back russia fo a standstill. For more than 711 days, I have yet again watched how a new great fire rages on. I have seen men plead for their life while their doom looked at them from above, I have seen a rebellious lord of this new wave of violence scream in anger surrounded by the empty shells of his fallen followers, I have yet again lost count of the amount of devastating explosions, the fresh graves and and the burned out armour plated carriages, the ruined houses and the lies of one man and his supporters who to this day cling to their power. All so the administration ruling in Moscow can cover its corruption by burning those who could expose them. Unfortunately, the only way to make this hell end is to unleash an even greater fire to swallow what has already been unleashed. They say that things have changed but learning about tales of old, dating back centuries, it’s all so awfully familiar. Si vis pacem para bellum. And hold those in power accountable - before it’s, once again, too late.

It needs to have conscription to maintain a reasonably-sized defence force. Norway is a nation of 5 million. fewer than most big *cities* elsewhere in the world. Only perfectly capable people are conscripted, and the army is very strict. people who suffer from mental health conditions or some form of physical defections are immediately excused from military service. If i'm honest, the conscription is more to make many people capable of functioning under military command to work as reserves and militia should war break out. You aren't required to stay in the military for long.

Talk about seeing what you want to see. The song/poem has a humanitarian message, decrying violence and promoting peace. While that does indeed mean opposing bigotry, it does not mean that that it promotes conflict. "Stans dem med ånd." This is foolish. When war comes, tell your enemy and see what they do. War means you die, not plead.

the war can be stopped either if you win or if you lose, and the latter usually means a lot of strife if not total annihilation

You completely misunderstood the perspective of the song. It's not about what your country should do if war comes to you, it's about what we all (humanity) should do to avoid the war beginning in the first place. The song is Norwegian (the text anyway, the melody is from a Danish person) but it's not a song meant only for Norwegians.

I couldn't disagree more. As an American I think Norwegian is one of the most beautiful spoken languages in the world. When put to song I think it is even more beautiful.
