Hi, I can tell he is very skilled and we do things a bit differently in Canada. He should he using a 1/2" trowel instead of a 1/4" trowel. When he lifted up the tile at 7:19 there is almost no cement on the back of the tile. He should also be using his palms to push the tile firmly into the cement instead of the handle of the hammer. I know every country has their own method of doing things but this method will make a stronger tile installation since there will be more cement holding the tile to the wall. At least 90% cement coverage is required on all tile installations where I am from. I know the finished product will look excellent since I have seen many tile jobs in Taiwan. The quality of the tile work that I have seen in Taiwan is excellent but I can tell many installations are hollow since there is not enough cement being used. The video at 8:00 is good but every single tile should have that much cement for a strong installation.

You should use a larger notched trowel for tiles that size especially if the wall isn't perfectly flat or plumb

Todo bien lo único que la llana dentada lo debería de realizar de forma vertical no horizontal y además alas losetas es recomendable ponerles un porcentaje de pegamento para qué no queden huecas o falsas de pegamento.

Since there is a "bad wall" and a large tile, why not apply some of the cement to the tile itself at first and then use a rubber hammer to even it out instead of just applying cement on the wall, knock to find if it has hollows, take it out .....

Dude.... You make it look damn easy.. But I guess I am jumping steps like not perfiling all the gaps between the clay bricks.. I'm just doing it in one hit... So I think I'm defs going to prefil and surface prep to make it so much less fiddly..

a good tiler are use blind for starters he's hitting d tile with d back of a hammer you push the tile in with the pams of your hands and pread the tile out on till its even you don't hit it with a hammer
@skylark220459 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your comment. We are using the back of the hammer to tap on the whole of the surface area of the tile in order to identify and find out which area is not completely making contact with the wall. According to specific sound feedback, we will know whether this tile requires additional back buttering or not. The handle of this hammer is wooden and will not cause any damage to the tile. We point out again, tile installation on brick walls is completely different from tiles installed on cement board or wood boards. Brick surface is hard and rough while cement and wooden boards are smooth and soft or flexible. So, if we were installing tiles on a cement board for example, we would not use the back of a hammer to tap the tile as you wouldn't be able to hear whether tile is making contact over whole surface area. If you have had experience in installing wall tiles on brick walls, you would completely identify with every action we perform in this matter. Hopefully this explains why we do this more clearly and remember we are not using an iron hammer to tap the wall tiles with, but we do use a rubber hammer for tapping floor tiles in installation work. You can watch a few of our other floor tile videos to see this. Thank you.

I agree that on a bad wall is difficult to fit tiles, but there are few things he does wrong. One puts adhesive on the wall as fast as one can so the spread adhesive does not have enough time for the top layer to get dry. In case one cant spread the adhesive fast, one does only a small area. Another thing, floor & wall, both, the tiles have to be back-buttered with adhesive. NO EMPTY TILE TO BE LEFT.
@skylark220459 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. We are tiling on a brick wall which unlike a cement board that has a smooth and already flat surface means installing tiles is a piece of cake. But with a brick wall the surface is not smooth but rough and uneven. Therefore, each tile will have a different background and you have to apply adhesive accordingly. So not every piece must be back buttered the same or you will not achieve both a horizontal and vertical surface. Hopefully, you will understand what we mean. Thank you.
@margaritakotsev32529 жыл бұрын
Hi, lovely to have your reply :). I totally understand what you mean, just not sure you understood what I meant. I know exactly what is to be working on uneven surface, believe me :). Just not entirely happy with what I saw, as in my book empty tile is not a well fitted tile. Also, when you take your time spreading adhesive on a biggish area, the adhesive looses some of its glueness and the top layer is dry, so its a must to have a tile back-buttered. The leveling system is great though, isnt it? I have a tip for using this system. Well, actually I have few, but one very good one is that we use min C2 class adhesive, and we mix it with a tiny bit more water than usual, in order to be more sticky, and spread on the surface /if very uneven we use 15-20 mm trowel/ and back-butter the tile. Try this, you may find it helpful. Thanks

+Margarita Kotsev Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. We always enjoy the valuable feedback of the experience of others in this industry. There is often a difference of opinion between cement renderers in connection with the back buttering of tiles issue. We would like to share our views and experiences about our thoughts on back buttering. First, we use back buttering to fill in the uneven surfaces on walls, so in this video for example, we are using back buttering on some tiles but not on others, depending on smoothness of walls. Second, the majority of high rise buildings here are all using the same method as we do. If tiles on a tall building fall down, this can cause problems. However this has not been the result with tile installations on high rise buildings on which we have installed tiles. Tile installers must ensure every piece of tile is securely installed on these high rise, outside wall buildings since these tiles must withstand the exposure to outside elements such as strong winds, sunshine and rain. And sincerely to say, not every single tile is installed with back buttering, only those specifically requiring it. So yes, back buttering is just playing a "part" in the whole role of tile installation. Not important or necessary for areas on a surface which is not smooth. In terms of cement board, (which we know is smooth and slippery unlike a brick wall which is rough in its surface texture) it is necessary to back butter every single tile or else you will certainly have the problem of tiles falling down. By the way, we also add another ingredient into our adhesive which we call, "seaweed powder" which acts to delay the drying out of the mixture too quickly. Finally, whether back buttering is necessary or not, depends on the texture of a surface. Thank you once again for the interaction and for sharing your views and experience with us.
