I appreciate your explanation using the graphics. I have watched numerous videos where the tile setter is in a room with terrible acoustics trying to explain this concept and it just doesn’t work for me.

Surely a 12 x 12 tile would be 144 square inches 🤔

Thanks for all the info. It made so much sense to me, the way you change the lay out to fit. But most time we wont be tiling a square. And thats where i get confuse with hitting halls and other rooms perfect

Interesting. So that excludes looking for correct exterior lines? Just center it an boom?

Focusing on this part of the job. I can cut mix mark lay etc. But squaring these rooms is confusing sometimes especially when you have a bunch of crooked exterior walls lol

i think you should have a full tile at the main entry into a room . then you can look at all the other walls , and see where a full tile would look better on one of them. then make a grid. no room is going to be square most likely , so go off the main wall from the main entry point . then to get a square line from the main e ntrty line use a square off of the main line

I agree. Most of the foreman and engineer would choose this layout.

On grout joint along the wall. If trim is going down. How about leaving the grout joint empty as long as trim will cover it. What are the pros and cons?
@zachpayne276 жыл бұрын
Robert w Sieburg this is how im running my tile...being i have trim...3/4 of an inch...i wouldnt think i would need to fill the wall line
@richaveni72875 жыл бұрын
Always leave the perimeter empty for expansion and contraction. making a floor solid from wall to wall is bad. The floor could buckle.
@jesussavedmysoul58074 жыл бұрын
As long as trim covers no need to grout!!! Get a spare piece of trim if you can to check as you install, as long as theres no holes so to speak all is well but you dont want it so close that the trim could break or fall inbetween tile and wall. At least half the trim needs tile under it 😊 prolly not best wording but hope this helps all this time later lol

This is hands down the best way to explain tile layouts. Grid pattern, simple graphic. It is so much better than a real room. Thank you
