Tilikum and Trua - Dine With Shamu at SeaWorld Orlando - September 8th, 2013

Tilikum and Trua participate and show off what they can do in a presentation for Dine With Shamu! I never ended up seeing him in a show but I feel he got to show off a lot of his non-splashing behaviors here! See below for highlights:

Honestly, most of the time it doesn't feel too different watching Keet and Ulises vs. Tilikum. When I see a bull I just think "Wow, he's big". Though sometimes when I can have a good angle of Tilikum from head to tail and see how long he is, or see how crazy large his pectoral flippers are, it takes my breath away. I haven't been able to have that effect with San Diego's bulls. Hopefully that answers your question!

It's a little eerie watching Tilikum in the G pool because the platform on your left is right where he took Dawn down. But it wasn't his fault. He was just frustrated. And it makes me so sad watching the trainers interact with Tilikum behind a barrier because of what happened. It's really unfair for him because the other whales get rubdowns while he doesn't unless it's with multipule trainers on the slideout with him. It's sad, they treated him like a crazed animal when he wasn't. Rest in Peace Tilikum and Dawn ❤

Or not even that, he got spooked because someone pushed the alarm and pulled Dawn in and held her close in panic. He may actually have been in a frenzied, confused way trying to keep her "safe" by keeping her close, and having no idea how to treat a human in the water. Put this all into the confused and panicked mind of a top predator.

While the main attraction was obviously in this pool, I did notice that the rest of the pod was given rare access to Tilikum's shaded pool. This afternoon, Tilikum and Trua had SCU only and so everyone else was let into Tilikum's pool. I saw a lot of splashes and whales sliding out, so it looked like they were having fun. Not a problem!

Ulises is the bigger of the two in San Diego, but even he is not as big as Tilikum.

im curious! how is it like seeing the size differences from tilikum to the males at Seaworld Of California?:) I wonder because Tilikum is obviously the only mature male killer whale that I see at Seaworld Of Florida..:p And lol , omg the trainer saying "just kidding" at 1:36!

To compare sizes Kayla is about as long as Corky in San Diego but thinner. Ulysses is a couple of feet longer than Corky, Keet about the same size. If you look up pictures of Kayla's dad Orky he compares to Tilikum.

We have passes to Sea World and while we didn't do DWS I wish we had yesterday a I am.not sure Tillikum was in their Miracles show. He is a beautiful animal I just wish him health, happiness and safety after all animals have souls too
