North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis is committed to preserving the American Dream for younger generations and supports commonsense policies that will generate economic growth and opportunities for working families.
As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Thom directly advocates for North Carolina’s rich military tradition, our veterans, and men and women currently in uniform. Thom also sits on the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, and Judiciary Committee.
Thom was born into a working-class family with his father and mother and five siblings. During his childhood, his family was frequently forced to relocate depending on where his parents could find work. After graduating from high school, Thom was unable to afford college, so he took a job as a warehouse records clerk earning minimum wage. He knows firsthand how difficult it is to raise a family while attending school at night, struggling to make ends meet.
Through hard work and dedication, Thom quickly moved up the corporate ladder, earning his degree at 36 and becoming a top-level executive at PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM. Thom’s 22-year private sector career in technology and management consulting has provided him with a deep understanding of policy-making and the management of complex organizations.
Fueled by a desire to make a difference in his local community, Thom’s involvement in public service began by serving as the PTA president of his daughter’s high school and as a member of the Town of Cornelius Board of Commissioners. In 2006, he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives and was selected by his peers to serve as Speaker of the House from 2011 to 2014. As Speaker, Thom played an instrumental role in enacting job-creating policies and reforming North Carolina’s tax and regulatory codes.
Thom lives with his wife Susan in Huntersville, North Carolina, and they are the proud parents of two grown children.

Thank you for the dignity & respect you gave to General Mattis. The same cannot be said for many of the others on the committee (i.e. Graham, McCain, & rude blonde lady). They only hurt themselves by disrespecting a great American General who is held in very high regard by our troops & the American public - the very ppl who will NOT vote for any politician that conduct themselves in such a petty & insulting manner. He has more than earned the respect of the American people & those senators were a horrible example - or I should say, a PERFECT example of what kind of ppl we DON'T want representing us. I worked in the Pentagon's Contracting Center of Excellence from 2007-2008. The Acquisition regulations are in need of a complete overhaul. The process of buying anything requires hundreds of pages of legaleze BS that most contractors don't even read. They either look at the RFP and say piss on it, or go through the BS only because some contractor has a friend at the Pentagon who spoon feeds him to keep his $$ rolling in. I quit after 2 years of this BS. Went back out into corporate and never regretted leaving the cesspool of ignorance, arrogance, and DEI (YES. they even had it back in those years) of stupid people running around the cubes shooting rubber bands at each other and these were GS 13-15 who were being promoted before they even knew their jobs enough to be dangerous. It takes at LEAST 15 years to get enough business savvy to get even NEAR a sophisticated government contractor who knows the FAR better than we ever did, and we got ripped off with every contract we issued. 1st hand experience here. I can only imagine what that organization looks like under O'biden.

Yeah this guy needs to stop ranting and just ask Mattis the damn question and let him answer it. Hopefully Mattis is able to trim away all the redundant layers of beaurocracy in the DoD and leave a better structure so the next SecDef that comes in after him can do a similarly good job.
