Tilmanstone Colliery Remembered.

Subscribe to my you tube channel for 210+ more coal mine tributes and counting. The Tilmanstone Colliery was located in the village of Eythorne,Kent on the ridge to the west. The mine was opened in 1906 and was modernised in 1947 surviving until closure in 1986. An accident in 1913 killed three men and destroyed the pumping system, causing the mine to flood and work was abandoned for nine months.

The memory of the East Kent coal mines is sill indirectly kept alive by the East Kent preservation heritage railway that runs from Sheperdswell to Eythorne that in years gone by serviced the rest of the mines of the coal field.
